Sentimental at the start, smooth and harmonic in the middle and a rocky ending. Thank you all with all heart.

It was written as a waltz and titled simply "Mardi Gras." Gorgeous playing!

They start off with one chorus in slow waltz time, then go into a SMOKIN' jazz groove. The rhythm section is a bit under-recorded because of the set-up in the club, but the pocket is there. Excellent solos and supporting dynamics all around.
PS The tune was written in 1931 by Johnny Mercer, the famous lyricist, and one Alfred Opler, about whom I could find nothing online except that he sang in a few Broadway shows in the 19-teens and early '20s.

Oh, I dearly hope if this girl had a lovelier and more attractive tone quality. Otherwise, a perfect clarinet player.

Your comment almost leaves me speechless! Go and listen to a dozen or so famous traditional jazz clarinetists, both historic and contemporary. Each one of them sounds different. Some have a dark sound, others sound rather open (such as Tamura Makiko), some use vibrato extensively, others only little, etc. If you don’t like Tamura’s sound, so be it. But let me tell you as a traditional jazz clarinet player of over 40 years, that there is absolutely nothing wrong with Tamura’s tone. It is part of her personal style and very much appropriate for this genre of music. Personally, I consider her one of the finest contemporary clarinet players of traditional jazz. I’m very glad that I discovered her on UA-cam and I’m confident that there is much more fine music to come from her and her band.
