    Very sano install, mate. I use an 8000 Btu window unit mounted in a vertical hatch on my sailing catamaran. I seal the edges between the unit and the hatch frame with split foam swim noodles. I can attest that it is more efficient than any water-cooled unit I've owned. I know that doesn't make sense theoretically but in actual practice, it is true.

    That's a nice job as far as workmanship. The only problem I see is strictly thermodynamics. I also installed a window AC in my boat, but put it as high up as possible. The reason is cool air will descend to the floor; hot air will always rise. So I put my unit high in the cabin to capture the hot air. Next, I will say your design is clever as you did not have to change any of the real structure of the boat. In my design I had to cut a square hole and build my own box to hold the unit. With climate change it's best to make sure your design captures as much heat as possible, nevertheless, good job!

    • @OutOnTheReef

      Awesome, captain, and you did also a great job by putting it higher.But in my case I put a little plexy.Glass clear pointing to The roof end and future videos You will see the scoop I built. Which circulates the air all the way to the roof and brings the hot air down.

    I have thought about doing the same thing but just didn't think it would get enough air. How is it working long term and have you had a chance to really give it a test? I did install a portable air conditioner and added a 2nd hose to cool the condenser so that it does not suck out the cool air as single hose portables do. It works great, but it's hard to compete with the effeciency of a window unit. I also had to add a duct fan because the condenser was getting too hot and shutting off. The portables make a lot of water, which goes into my holding tank as you suggested.

    • @OutOnTheReef
      @OutOnTheReef  5 років тому +1

      I placed the link on the description below about the exhaust fan I use it has 351 CFM and if you look at my channel my recent trip to the Bahamas I use it for 3 nights straight using the air-conditioning and never gave me no problem but you do have to use it an exhaust fan that has a lot of power to suck all that hot air, because if you don't the compressor would get high pressure and it will shut off or you will not get the best efficiency. Portable air conditioners suck a lot of your good cold air from your cabin so it's not efficient

    • @masdbo
      @masdbo 5 років тому +1

      @@OutOnTheReef You are right, they SUCK out the cold air to cool the condenser as soon as it cools... very bad, they should be banned! Mine doesn't now because I isolated the condenser coils with a separate hose, but still for the BTU's window units are more efficient. I might consider your set up when mine dies..... or before lol.

    • @OutOnTheReef
      @OutOnTheReef  5 років тому +3

      Yes I run it with a generator but the reason I have two hoses is one is the intake and the other one is the exhaust for the hot air because if you don't do that you going to be taking out the cold air from the cabin to cool the exhaust and you don't want that

    I watched this video awhile back, and a lot of attention to detail here. I assume this AC works as you expected, given that you do AC professionally, but I was wondering, would it have been possible to install a true marine AC on your boat? I really don’t know much about the components of this type AC, but I assume one would require more room in the bilge area?

    • @OutOnTheReef
      @OutOnTheReef  3 роки тому +1
