Thank you so much miss!! I was so worried about my geography exam tomorrow and my teacher isn't exactly the best so I felt some sort of anxiety, till I found this video. Thank you so so much!!
My guess would be that it’s because the amount of precipitation has virtually no bearing on the vegetation in polar climates. In both Tundra and Ice Cap, there are no trees because there are no months which average over 50 Fahrenheit. Seems arbitrary but that is the magic temperature as far as I understand it. Sure, vegetation will differ a bit from tundra to tundra, but it’s all scrub vegetation and lichens and stuff. No trees. So in regard to the presence of forests, precipitation is irrelevant in the polar climates. If you want a good resource to learn more about the climates in-depth, I recommend the videos on Geodiode, a UA-cam channel. He explains this stuff super well.
Thank you so much for this. I was about to burst in tears when I looked on all the letters before I watched this.

Mam, If the second letter is for "Precipitation", why does E climates have Tundra(T) and Ice caps(F) based on "temperature" criteria?
My guess would be that it’s because the amount of precipitation has virtually no bearing on the vegetation in polar climates. In both Tundra and Ice Cap, there are no trees because there are no months which average over 50 Fahrenheit. Seems arbitrary but that is the magic temperature as far as I understand it.

I agree with @taylor pearcy, temperature seems to be a dominating factor, precipitation and effect of vegetation must be a secondary aspect.
Where does the B in the B climate come from? Is it from Germany?
