- Do Vic Firth Practice tips lower electronic drum volume? I had no idea if it would work, so I bought a pack from Amazon to check for myself.

Sold! My practice bucket is gonna be amazing to play now 😁
I love this video. One of my favourites...and I have watched a lot in the last couple of weeks! Keep up the good work!
Thanks dude :)
Hey Justin, I use the Tama version on my practice set with Zildjian low volume and Remo silent stroke heads and they stay in place no matter how hard I hit. The attack on the cymbals is a lot more quieter, it really works and is worth a try, awesome channel!
I really liked this video man, its a bit more effort put into the video than you usually do but i really appreciate it!
Fantastic idea and execution for a video.
Hey Justin nice vid. The look on your face when those things go flying... HILARIOUS!! LOL. Thanks for making my day a little brighter. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for your videos! They have been very helpful!
Hey I just ordered the TricMic Laser pick..can't wait to try it out when it gets here!
I bought the TAMA's on a package deal with the TAMA multi tool gadget (killer little bit of engineering) and the TAMA's have a sleeve of 1/2 inch that seems to suction the wood. The material is NOT ruber but more of a rubber/silicon compound that seems to have tiny air bubbles inside. Of course the 1/2 inch sleeve grabs the stick and the problem you will have is to take it off. As far as sound , it muffles the attack at different levels depending on the angle. I thought this was a GREAT little exercise keeping the same sound through a practice or playing with sound patterns.
It is after all TAMA!
Lol love the sarcasm at the end!
I like them. I can keep a pair at my desk for rudiments when I need a break from work.
You make very and informative videos, I like your style.
Very cool. I am heading over to amazon to see what cool gadgets I can find.
I literally have an electric kit paired with these stick tips in my cart right now lol thank god i found this video
I’d recommend the sticks Vic firth sells that has them almost glued on. They will *almost* never fall off.
I see that Berkey filtration system. I have one too and I love it. Please make a video about how drinking pure, clean water is a must for all drummers.
I use the silent tips for edrums, i never had them fell off and they definitely make less impact sound, especially on the rims and plastic cymbals. Also they are meant for protecting the mesh heads and make them last longer.
Playing will feel a bit off for a day or two until you get used to the weight even tho they weight like a feather. XD
3:43 Mr Crabs walkin’
🤣🤣
Love the channel, i'm wondering if the Vic Firth ESticks are any good for using on my electronic kit or should I just carry on using my Stagg SA5A's
I bought those TAMA practice tips a couple of years ago and on rubber pads they sound louder.. good for putting on the tip of my hi-hat stand for safety reasons lol They never flew all over the place though!
Justin, Solid review, man. Thanks! Any thoughts on the rubber tips ( or plastic-tipped ) sticks having any positive or negative effect on pad or mesh head longevity? Should I just stick with my regular wooden-tipped, wood sticks?! Thanks for what you do for the e-drumming community.
yo this is perfect for me. I'm a vic firth man and use my e-kit all the time
"Free Shipping" ahaha very true indeed! Great video and thanks for testing out some items for us!
I wish this video was out last week! Then I wouldn't have purchased these with the same idea in mind, haha
I am more interested in that analyzer you flashed on the screen for a sec.. I had to pause it a bunch of times until I could see that it was a Beatnik rhythmic analyzer. I think that would be a pretty good investment for a beginner. I am going to look for a used one.
That video was insanely entertaining lol.
The Rubber Tips are mend to convert the sticks into something that makes it possible to use most surfaces as practice pad.
I use something similar to these and I dont think it makes a big difference with noise on edrums but I do feel they make the sticks less slippery on the mesh heads if that makes sense. I feel like they slide less and stick to the mesh head more on each hit.
That was funny when you looked up to the left and the damn thing was already bouncing on the floor to the right! priceless LOL
What also funny is that I bought exactly these tips 6 months ago with the idea to make my edrums more quiet... which to my ears they made them more noisy :-)
And you are 100% right, I use A7 sticks and you could feel the weight.
Great for hard surface, useless for edrums.
Awesome video
Thanks dude!
Maybe the tama version will stay on the sticks longer... or what if you used sugru or glued those tips on? Great analysis Justin.
Tim Fillpot That's good info. I've been debating those tips but always talk myself out of them at checkout.
Do you get extra bounce with it if you play on alesis type rubber pads that would make them more comparable to the rebound of an acoustic kit?
OMG! This is so cool! :D
“ a rubber tip on the tip of it “ 🤣🤣🤣Dead af
Very informative, and totally made me laugh too 🤣
Nice!
Can you please add a link to the decibel meter?
Vic Firth originally made "Chop Out" 5B drum sticks with those rubber tips glued to the sticks.
So i imagine what you picked up from amazon is the same thing just with you being able to pick them on any sticks you want. The obvious problem with that is there is no glue keeping them on the sticks.
I never had any problems with my Chop-Out 5B sticks losing the rubber tips.
I use these with my edrums live to help eliminate the annoying stick sounds
Good info and very funny ☺️
Justin the drum prophet! Prophesy on brother!
They make a Huge Difference in Acoustic Drums
3:37 OMG that doggo!!
Siberian Husky :)
Great tips in your videos. One question. Will these silicone (rubber) practice tips help protect the mesh heads, or, I should say, help them to last a bit longer? I've recently seen a set (4 tips) for $9.99. Thinking of getting them. I don't want them to play softer, noise-wise persay, I just to help make the mesh heads last a bit longer on my Alesis Nitro Mesh.
Might be better to buy nylon-tipped sticks instead.
will this damage the mesh in drums as the snare mesh or mesh toms??....
Love it. @ 3:35 the dog is like, "I'm fucking out! All I want to do is eat my kibble in peace, but Noooo..."
Make the "scientific" comparisson with Black Hole and Silent Stroke, please!
I bought them 1 week ago. They work as "practice pad", but i thought they would lower the volume of my rubber toms. Unfortunately they don't. But they work well as practice tips.
The funniest video you made! More sarcasm please!
Yeah! A house tour-ish
Try looking for that lost practice tip in the dimension where lost guitar picks end up.
bro I was on the floor trying to find those things lol, nearly lost it
Super Glue.
Cute dog 😊😂👍🏻 3:34.
I am using these with my promark 7a stick and they just fall of when I an using them with my drums
I would use them to keep my rubber toms pads clean and black though...(?)
Any idea if they would improve the feel of playing on rubber edrums? I get some wrist pain after playing for an hour or 2 on rubber pads.
Relax your grip on the sticks
I just download a DB meter app to my cell phone. Does the handheld work better?
I think it's a tad more accurate but thats it
I have the Tama tips and like them, they won't fly off the sticks like these ones do.
I use the factory-glued ones (Chop Out sticks) and rarely lose the tips. But then, I'm not a heavy hitter either. There is no need to beat electronic drums to hell and back. If you want more power, just turn them up!
Try it with ear buds for $1
&
I agree with
Jordan Thoreson
superglue them and create a permanent pair of practice sticks with some cheap 5a and way cheaper + more practical than buying a pad
Plz suggest Me carlsbro csd210 or csd130
most of the sound is coming from the deepness of the shells, right..? why would a tip help that
What was the blue thing you held up in the beginning of the video what kind of drum pad was that
beatknik rhythm analyzer 1200
Thanks, also it’s very : )
Vater just released a product that is basically exactly same as the Vic firth version, except they stay on a bit better
Hey Justin
Super glue the tips to the sticks you want to use to damp down the volume.
Vic Firth makes a pair of sticks with the rubber practice tip already on the stick snd they don’t come off
techra e-rhythm 7a have rubber tips fused on
I really like your channel already, but putting your dog in every video will really bring it to the next level. I'm just saying
Kevin agreeded
lol, I just love how the dog walk passed without looking at him @3:35
@@kurtleung I didn't even noticed the dog, but I did notice the guitars.
I got to go back to thievery school 101 !!
They would also be great to mute the chic sound on an acoustic symbol if you needed that effect
And there goes the last one...gone forever!
You sound serious but actually are quite funny
2:13 The Vic Firth 5B Chop-Out sticks apparently solve the balance issue, as the shaft is altered to rebalance the weight of the built-in rubber tip: vicfirth.com/products/drum-sticks/american-classic-specialty/5b-chop-out/ Obviously they'd solve the flying-tip issue too. There's also a *felt*-tipped 5A, in fact vicfirth.com/products/drum-sticks/american-classic-specialty/5a-soft-touch/ , which would hopefully not cause marking of the rubber cymbal surface. But I don't need to tell anyone to stay away from the Vic Firth website if you want to avoid being tempted by shiny objects at impulse-buy prices. You should especially avoid vicfirth.com/specialty-sticks/ . :D Oh, and they apparently have the ESTICK designed for "today's electronic drums": vicfirth.com/products/drum-sticks/american-classic/estick/ . There's a video about them ua-cam.com/video/CLX3xHrznQ8/v-deo.html but it just seems to be a pretty normal 5A variant, with a (relatively large, SD1-derived) barrel tip and a long taper.
I'd guess that rubber (or felt) tips would be most useful on low-volume cymbals or Jobeky-style metal-surfaced e-cymbals, as a way to reduce stick-impact noise. But then the feel would lose some of its realism, and would there be any reason to have a metal e-cymbal then? Maybe it would be useful during the night or other quiet periods.
did the same thing when I saw those. and mine flew off too & lost one
Where is the link of the rubber tips ?
In the description of the video
Justin I use Marsh Mello's, works great and I can snack on them too. You wasted 15 bucks.
This is a bar conversation with total strangers.
I think they are only half usefull. I do not hit rims and cymbals with the tip.
Yeah you're right, I realized that as I was about to hit a cymbal in the video "opps, I should hit the top of the cymbal not the edge"
Pretty funny stuff
Superglue them on. Problem solved
what about when your sticks break
Says: Practicing on a laptop.
I go.. Mha ha Mhaha Mhahahahahaha this guy.
So funny
What about nylon tip drum sticks ? Are they quieter with e-drums ?
No, I'd rather say louder
Nikita Makarov thanks for your response, I was thinking of buying a pair but now I'll probably won't ✌️
As for me, they just feel a bit heavier and they don't absorb vibrations, maybe that's why
if you want quieter drum sticks you need to find the smallest diameter sticks available, like jazz sticks. These will reduce the impact sound. Or you can buy some Pro Mark Hot Rods, break away all of the wood pieces from the end until there are only 5-7 wood sticks on each Hot Rod. Then tape those together a few times. They work on e-drums and are much quieter than regular sticks.
@@gateoflion that makes sense. great suggestion. it looks like there's only 5-6 sticks to begin w. maybe I'll glue a couple of these tips Justin reviews here. or tape em up w some Xtreme tape
If you can do that, it'll probably turn an electric drum pad w/ crap rebound into a decent pad.
thank you for not playing the dog
No animals were harmed in the making of this video
4:02 a PS2??? Just kidding. I'm a retro gamer myself.
This is the weirdest house tour I've ever seen
You supposed to glue it on.
6:10
Thats what she said 😏
14th
the prophecy is fulfilled xD hahahah !
U should use all these toys as a tax write off! ;)
Super glue.
Lmao nice PlayStation 2
Only the best ;)
...the playing is a little too heavy handed here....like swatting a fly with a HAMMER !!!
