I have used Himalayan dolphin baby for several projects and have found that different colors do have more shed than others, but love the way it crochets, feels, and looks.
Been watching your videos since yesterday & your excitement over amigurumi patterns & yarn etc is infectious! Gross word but you get the point- I love it!
I use the PIXIE DUST double stranded with matching parfait chunky colors and it is awesome. Adds sparkle to the chunky. I made gummy worm that came out amazing!!!
Hi. Just found your channel. Love your attitude and style. Your videos are fun and informative. I’m a very senior fiber artist and always looking to learn something new.
Just LOVE your series, and watching your crochet journey. The yarn comparisons have helped tremendously. I've been crocheting for a long time (afghans, doilies, pillows), and am getting more into the amigurumi as a stress reliever. Just watching the videos is thoroughly entertaining, and I do follow some of the same amazing talent you have linked as well. Thank you for sharing your passion 😊
I love how you use the same pattern to test. Great seeing the differences. All I've used is Just Chenille. I actually just stocked up yesterday (June 2024) Out of the 5 stores in my area, only two had yarn. Each of the two had some the other one didn't.
thank you for these videos! it really helped me decide which yarns to buy 💕 Yarns a bit harder to find/more expensive here in Australia and I'm looking forward to seeing what you think of the Hobbii yarns! The comparison of sizes between the yarns was also super helpful! Maybe one day you can sort them from biggest to smallest and let us see the octo party all together! 😜
Hi Sweetone❤️ I sooooo appreciate your yarn comparisons for us that make Plushies ❣️❣️❣️❣️THANK YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH FOR TAKING SO MUCH OF YOUR PRECIOUS TIME TO DO THIS & ESPECIALLY SHARING YOUR FINDS AND OPINION WITH ALL OF US😘❤️😘❤️😘As Always, I Loves Ya’ Bunches & More, Barb (S.E. OHIO)
Yet another great review! Thank you for taking the time to do this for us! I appreciate it. I can sometimes find one color at a time of the Just Chenille at my local Dollar tree, but tonight they had 5 DIFFERENT COLORS!! Of course I bought all 5 colors! 😂 I am going to have to put the unicorn blanket yarn in my Herrschners list to try. I love that it spiraled do you! We need some Sunny content mixed in too. I could here her whining in the background a bit.
Ok but how have I never even heard of that Herrschners yarn?? It looks so beautiful! I might need to try that out for my channel! Loving this review. I tried out the juicy couture for my first video and I loved it! I have not tried the XL but now I need to!
Hi Karen! Another great video. I started making plushies with the DT Just Chenille yarn and just love it. I have a tub full of it. My subbies from my paper crafting side went to their DT’s in search of it and sent me sooooo much! So happy they did or else I wouldn’t have anymore. That Bernat yarn with all the colors is just beautiful. I don’t like Bernat yarn, but I may just have to give that one a go.
I really enjoy these yarn reviews, thanks....i just bought the velvet jumbo and noticed there were 2 strands and seeing your octo i think i will separate them. I want it for my dragon
This is a great yarn comparison. I agree there should be better standardization. It makes it so hard to know which yarn to choose. Thanks so much for the great video!
I just started crochet and used premier parfait chunky for a plushie otter. It came out really adorable but the yarn shed so much and easily got bald spots. I saw your chenille yarn round up and it sounds like theres better yarn out there! I can’t wait to try some others like the Bernat baby. I was hoping you’d review Hobbi honey bunny yarn which I have been seeing all over too
i ordered 6 balls of Himalayan Dolphin in different colors...I cant do the magic circle with it. And it sheds like crazy! I am wondering if there are just bad batches. I wanted to love it....but premier is now my go too yarn!
Juicy Couture was okay, but the price??? I made ghosts with the white and they sold, but I won’t be buying anymore. I also agree with your view of Himalayan Dolphin Baby. Just wish I could find it for less. Thanks for the review. I really enjoy your videos.😊
I got 16 skeins of Himalayan Dolphin Baby at Etsy for $2.04 a skein. I saw it in other shops on Etsy for $1.86. Try to catch it on sale, as I did. But average regular price was $4.45 a skein.
I got the just chenelle. it was hard I am a newer crocheter but my magic ring with horrible to try to pull together the string broke and when I was frogging it it was falling all the pieces I don't know if I just got a bad skein or what
I had the same issue with certain skeins. My blue one is the only one that doesn’t work with closing a magic ring, so I had to try the chain 2 method instead. Very frustrating but some bernat blanket yarns are like that too, texture varies
This is amazing! I was so sad to see dolphin is smaller than parfait as someone recommended it as a sweet snuggle/ home chenille lite duplicate do i ordered some im waiting for ...but parfait is too small so that will be =/ have you found a yarn that is same texture and size of SSL/ chenille home (not fleece or blanket yarn like but the soft ssl texture)
I got heaps of the Pixie Dust while on special but didn't realise how small it was plus it hurts my fingers but works great with other yarn and the other plush yarn saves my fingers from hurting. Always happy with extra yarn to play around with textures. Oh gosh, are you wearing a Tanzanite pendant? My favorite gem
You have so many of these videos. As a beginner I’m lost. What would you recommend for a beginner? I do have easy access to hobby lobby, Micheal’s and Joann’s. Thanks
Just starting out can be so overwhelming! I would swing by Joann and pick up a couple skeins of Big twist Posh (not to be confused with big twist plush). It’s a very beginner friendly yarn. You’ll be able to see your stitches well, and you won’t be frustrated by too much shedding from chenille yarns. My second recommendation would be Estako or Himalayan Dolphin Baby, you can find both on Amazon. And my third choice, if you want to make your plush a little bigger, I would go with Bernat blanket. Hope that helps!!
I love the big twist posh thank you for suggesting it now just need it to come back in stock. So my new question is what would be the most similar? also i have just chenille and struggle with it shedding to bare when pulling tight or frogging is premier parfait chunky the same? I hate to pay shipping for 1 to try thanks. @@YarnandWhimsyDesigns
I haven't watch thisnyet but I love to hear yarn reviews because as a beginner to amigurumi and someone just crocheting for 5 months now I don't knw which yarn is best to use. I live in Jamaica and only have access to acrylic yarn for I haven't worked with plush yarn yet. I don't which yarn to use.
@@YarnandWhimsyDesigns I was thinking to order different types of worsted weight yarn and cotton yarn to try them out, to see which I like best. But I really want to try chenille/plush yarn ugh it's hard when you compare yourself to others. Would it be possible for you to also try worsted yarn like how you do the plush yarns?
@@sdelli948I’ll try! I’ve done a few worsted weight projects. Like the Captain Hook in my September video. But I find they are a little harder on my wrists. Here is the video! ua-cam.com/video/014T8G2WEfI/v-deo.htmlsi=ZWoXy3LKbDWAsPnt
@@sdelli948 I've been making some plushies with worsted weight yarns, but I double the yarn so it's bulkier. I try not to crochet super tight so it is still soft. We use this yarn especially on items that may be more decorative. Happy crocheting!
Me too! It’s such a good deal. Especially when they have free of $4.95 shipping (like they do today, so I’m off to buy more yarn. Darn it!) 😂 Thanks for watching!!
Love your reviews. I wish instead of just telling the number of yards you would show a whole skein in your hand because I’m never right in what size I’m getting when I order online and I have a disability and don’t leave the house much so I don’t usually see yarn in person before ordering.
I would love it if you could do a wash testing with all your little octo friends. I make my amigurumi with the expectation that they'll need to be washed repeatedly because they're for kids. I want yarn that is going to survive the washer and dryer, regardless of the care instructions on the tag.
Do all these types of yarns shed or want to break off when doing the magic circle? I just made a Dino with snuggles lite and it likes to break and shed
Ugh! I’m so sorry you’re dealing with that. Sweet Snuggles has been very hit or miss for me lately. The good news is, I haven’t had that problem with any of these Yarns. Also, just would check out the new Big twist Posh! It’s so easy to work with, and more accessible than some of these!
