I am fifty-eight years of age and currently studying at university, and I am shocked at the level of left-wing bias and indoctrination on display daily.

The word means 'shaking the body' as happens during illness, that is the exact meaning of intifada and has been all the time. Some Arabs used the word metaphorically to describe the the events of 1987 , others called it "stone revolution". If anything it means mini uprising but not "great" uprising. Its a habit of the media to borrow foreign words rather than using their existing English words, it looks more sophisticated to English speakers but stupid to those who know the language. examples: 'madrasa' means school so 'madrasa school' means school school, 'Sahara' means desert so 'Sahara desert' means desert desert

I'm baffled how someone calling for "global intifada" is permitted to continue working within the school system. I spent 17 years teaching in England before going abroad in private schools......I retired at 48. I have tried to do long time temp work in England since (proper contracts) and have walk out of both schools. Not taking the crap from kids/teachers and the pathetic IT in schools. I am lucky I can walk. They should look at how many walk within 5 years of qualifying. Give teachers autonomy back, and stop pandering to all this woke sh*t.

As a former teacher, I never felt I was underpaid. I worked very hard and some of the holidays but never all of the holidays and I personally don’t know any teacher who did work through all their holidays. The woman here is making things up to support her view. Money doesn’t solve problems.

When I retired from what was still a fairly respectable 'teaching profession' about 11 years ago, I'd been in the job for over 40 years, but this is the first I've ever heard of the 'NEU'! Wherever did this outfit come from and how the devil did the specimen featured here ever get a job in a classroom let alone purportedly running what's supposed to be a 'professional organisation'?
PS - This Chairman of the NEU talks about 'decolonising' UK education. Shouldn't he start by 'decolonising' the NEU by removing himself?

I also wondered about this union - never heard of it (I have six teachers/lecturers in my family).
I was offered a position at a local college - decided it wasn't for me because of the mental gymnastics required to 'affirm' the 'gender identities' of various students (including two who changed their pronouns on a nearly daily basis and one who identified as a cat and was demanding a litter tray).

I work in a school as a teaching assistant, trust me a lot are totally incompetent and they have a job for life with a massive pension pot at the end. I see this first-hand and management can't do anything about it.
And as a teaching assistant you don't do a fraction of the work the teachers do , do you work till 11pm most nights lesson planning and progress report writing? No

I have just left the teaching profession after 23 years. In the last 5 years there has been more and more political indoctrination by the far left in classrooms. It should not be allowed. Classrooms should be about education not politics of any kind. I also cancelled my membership of the NEU about 5 years ago too. They do not speak for the majority of teachers but we had to be part of a union. Our hands were tied. Im glad to be out of it but sad at what is going on.
At this point if my children were still young I would home school.

I'm in my 70s, a post WWII child & some of the toughest & best teachers were women. What's wrong imho is lack of discipline in schools, lack of respect for the teachers & a total lack of self discipline in our young ! It seems that children rule these days, at home as well as at school.

Teaching was always a career for women, going back at least 200yrs. When I think of my strictest teachers (1960s-70s) they were all women.

Btw the holidays aren’t paid for … it’s unpaid leave. Teachers are paid for 1265/hours a year spread over 39 weeks. My newly graduated daughter earns more than I did at the end of my career of 33 years…she is in the private sector.
