Master P really changed rap. Before everyone thought you needed a major label to sell a million albums. Before P mixtapes were for hard-core fans and industry people. He raised the quality and sold it to the average rap fan. He was making so much money when big record companies started trying to buy his record company he told them to kick rocks so they just gave him a distribution deal just to get a piece of the action. Once people started to see P get rich owning his on music it really got so many rappers to not wait for a major label and go independent like him. He broke the whole sellout idea in rap. McHammer got called a sellout for being a rapper and entrepreneur before P but after P Jay-Z was called a genius for doing the same thing. He really doesn't get the credit he deserves.

He still needed a major label to distribute his music. No Limit was originally distributed by Priority Records the same label that distributed Ruthless. After that deal was up No Limit signed to Universal in 2001. He definitely didn't raise the quality because none of his artists lasted. DMX and Jay Z were the biggest artists during their run.

Master P is one of hip hop’s most influential and successful moguls. He paved the way for independent labels and artists. While most artists went the major route, Master P bypassed the major labels & built his empire selling his tapes and CD’s independently out the trunk of his car. That’s why the sound and artwork might be considered by some as “unpolished.” The artwork & sound is now legendary.

YOOO!!! I wasn't expecting this but happy as a Louisianian! Master P a legend his biography would be crazy he started selling cd out his trunk, in college on a basketball scholarship, starts a record shop, label gets a unprecedented deal becomes a platinum artist THEN makes the NBA he tells how in Charlotte(which is the bible belt so this plays into what happened.) The GM called him in said "you're a helluva player but your music is pure filth.... gotta let you go." His subject matter is what got him released but he's already a platinum artist so it didn't matter to him. Makes successful clothing line, produces and stars in his own films(also putting his folk on No Limit artist were always the cast of the movies) goes on to do successful real estate business. Like we have a hard enough time being successful in 1 field Percy has lived the dream of many fields and I wanna say it was all before he was even 40! Dude's been a legend for decades now & he needs his flowers. I mean Jay-Z gets this credit like he's done something unprecedented and no knock to the man, but you hear plenty and I mean PLENTY of shady reasons why he got to that position not to mention having that Power Couple dynamic in his favor.
P accomplished just as much w/o none of the "he screwed me over to get there" talk on his name.

Mystikal is the 1 guy of a group like Andre 3000, Wayne that doesn't miss. He delivers on his verse every time especially when you get tuned in to actually hear what he saying obviously he raps fast. But he isn't just throwing random words together fast he's actually saying some fiya ish!

No Limit released a new cd almost every Tuesday between 1998-2001. They had over 20 artists. They were going gold every week. 500k copies sold was a huge accomplishment weekly. They had a production team that really led to this consistency of sales.

It had to do with the deal he got. He got offered a million and his brother C Murder wanted to take it. P was smart and brokered a deal unheard of. He was like the only rapper in the game with real money.

Fiend was one of my faves on the label. Hes the second artist to rap. His albums are so good, oast to present. He's one of the few that is still putting out music. Silkk is very well known for not ever being on the beat, he's even admitted it. As a 42 year old adult, it drives me nuts. But back in the 90's, you couldn't tell me anything bad about any of them. Brings back so many memories, I love it! Mia X was the "Mother" of the whole label. Aka "Mama Mia." I have so much useless knowledge of No Limit Records, lol.

I was graduating middle school and getting going in high school around this time. The lyrics weren't amazing from Master P or Silkk; but they were on some really nice sounding tracks.

I never understood why Master P isn't in the mainstream music anymore, as I commented before my father told me to listen to less music but I never listened now that he has transitioned I can't help to wish I could have the time with him and explain how music is so important to me and then I realize he knew but he also trying to help work less. But also is music that helped me feel and connect with him in the spirit world and the dream and feeling I felt when I came to New York and had forgotten about manifested and came back alive. So music is the connection.

I don't know if anyone remembers this, but back when Make Em Say Ugh came out, the Sci-Fi Channel used the hook in its promos for the channel. It was not Master P's voice, but the computer generated voice they used for its promos saying the hook to Make Em Say Ugh. It didn't run all the time and didn't last long.

    Mystikal- Danger
    Mystikal- shake ya a$$
    Snoop Dogg- Woof

You guys NEED to check out 2 no limit artists in particular.. Mac "Mac Phipps" , he put out 2 classics on No Limit. He's the most lyrical and best story teller from no limit. He got falsely accused of murder when his career was going to take off. Spent 21 years in prison for it and now he is out doing great things. Also Mia X is one of the greatest female emcees , if not the greatest .

A couple others from No Limit were there but I can't remember exactly who but I remember Mama Mia being there for sure.
