Master P really changed rap. Before everyone thought you needed a major label to sell a million albums. Before P mixtapes were for hard-core fans and industry people. He raised the quality and sold it to the average rap fan. He was making so much money when big record companies started trying to buy his record company he told them to kick rocks so they just gave him a distribution deal just to get a piece of the action. Once people started to see P get rich owning his on music it really got so many rappers to not wait for a major label and go independent like him. He broke the whole sellout idea in rap. McHammer got called a sellout for being a rapper and entrepreneur before P but after P Jay-Z was called a genius for doing the same thing. He really doesn't get the credit he deserves.
He still needed a major label to distribute his music. No Limit was originally distributed by Priority Records the same label that distributed Ruthless. After that deal was up No Limit signed to Universal in 2001. He definitely didn't raise the quality because none of his artists lasted. DMX and Jay Z were the biggest artists during their run.
He soaked up game from the independent artists’ rap scene in the Bay Area in Northern California , he was rapping out of Richmond California early in his career.
Master P gave MC Hammer is props because he was making money outside of rap.
Funny your daddy mentioned Dr. Dre on Mr. Ice Cream Man, when in fact that song is sampled from World Class Wreckin Cru - Turn Off The Lights . A Group Dr. Dre was in before N.W.A
Yup, Turn Off The Lights produced by the good Doctor.
I just made the same comment before seeing yours. I just love this channel.
lol just typed this lol 😂
He also played in the NBA for the Charlotte Hornets and the Toronto Raptors in 1999
played ish lol
He was the last cut before the season started for the raptors.
@@ProfessorLyrics😂😂
Due to his manger or lawyer getting into legal trouble his contract was bs.

"MYSTICAL" Was The Best Rapper On The No Limit Label..He Was So 🔥 Back Then...Do More MYSTICAL music..Your Dad Like Him...Great Reactions Y'all👍🏾💯👍🏾
Mac was the best on No limit and some say the nola

People don't respect P as a rapper because he wasn't a lyricist, but buddy has some jams
It's time pops has the pleasure of experiencing a Missy Elliot video. Her wordplay is phenomenal and she is pivotal to many 90s artists.
The dude with the "Busta Rhymes vibes is MYSTICAL. Definitely worth diving into as a solo artist. MYSTICAL was so technical. So many songs. "Here I Go" "Danger" "Shake it Fast" "Bumpin Me Against The Wall" "Tarantula " "I Smell Smoke". So talented.
Don't forget "Yall ain't ready yet" (1995) mystikal
Great suggestion by you, hope they read your comment an use your suggestion.
He also features on a Busta Rhymes track
Don't forget The Man Right Chea
Bourbons and Lacs is a No Limit banger.
This!
And this
This and Welcome to my City get me gassed
Master P is one of hip hop’s most influential and successful moguls. He paved the way for independent labels and artists. While most artists went the major route, Master P bypassed the major labels & built his empire selling his tapes and CD’s independently out the trunk of his car. That’s why the sound and artwork might be considered by some as “unpolished.” The artwork & sound is now legendary.
When Mystikal signed to No Limit, it was a huge thing, and I think this was his debut song with the label. Mystikal was already a well known and popular artist. His energy is next level, and super creative and animated. Definitely some tracks from him ya'll should listen to.
Actually, if I remember correctly, Mystikal's first appearance on No Limit was on 'It's On' by Steady Mobb'n. I could be wrong but I remember tripping about it back when it happened being a fan of him prior to his No Limit days...
@@lemarcusmalvo3311 yeh. That could be. I can't remember exactly, but my cousin and I were big Mystikal fans also. From the 'Mind of Mystikal' days and maybe some mixtapes before then. But hearing him with No Limit and the energy he brought was next level. I hate the way his career ended up going.
He sampled The O'Jays' song Brandy on I Miss My Homies. They basically took the chorus from that song and switched it up a little bit. If you have a chance, check how the song. It's said to be about a dog lol
P always sample r&b
17 reasons on 99 ways to die = earth wind fire reasons
I got candy = candy
Pop goes my 9 = Pop goes my mind ETC
No limit always had good samples
YOOO!!! I wasn't expecting this but happy as a Louisianian! Master P a legend his biography would be crazy he started selling cd out his trunk, in college on a basketball scholarship, starts a record shop, label gets a unprecedented deal becomes a platinum artist THEN makes the NBA he tells how in Charlotte(which is the bible belt so this plays into what happened.) The GM called him in said "you're a helluva player but your music is pure filth.... gotta let you go." His subject matter is what got him released but he's already a platinum artist so it didn't matter to him. Makes successful clothing line, produces and stars in his own films(also putting his folk on No Limit artist were always the cast of the movies) goes on to do successful real estate business. Like we have a hard enough time being successful in 1 field Percy has lived the dream of many fields and I wanna say it was all before he was even 40! Dude's been a legend for decades now & he needs his flowers. I mean Jay-Z gets this credit like he's done something unprecedented and no knock to the man, but you hear plenty and I mean PLENTY of shady reasons why he got to that position not to mention having that Power Couple dynamic in his favor.
P accomplished just as much w/o none of the "he screwed me over to get there" talk on his name.
Jay didn't screw anybody over. The worst you hear is he moved on from somebody. Percy Miller is a legend and certified businessman. Much respect.
It's funny that your dad mentioned Dr. dre synths becuz the ice cream man song is a take on one of Dre's 1st ever productions.. "Turn out the light" by world class wrecking crew
I love that Mia X was your favorite! She is considered by some as the best No Limit had to offer! Just to throw out a couple No Limit songs to check out: Master P - Break Em Off Somethin; TRU - No Limit Soldiers; TRU - Bout it, Bout it; Young Bleed - How Ya Do Dat
Momma Mia was so dope on the mic for real
I LOVE mama Mia!!!!! What’s crazy is they mentioned 3-6 mafia. MiaX & Gangsta Boo were very close
@@hobblobber3914Her verse is probably the best of the entire track, she was def slept on
That was a highlight for me. Growing up back then and being named Mia, I knew all of her parts and was always called by one of her monikers; the unladylike diva, the biggest Mama Mia…
Lil Wayne is from New Orleans!!
Came here to say this!
Mr Ice Cream Man is a spin of Before You Turn Off the Lights by World Class Wrecking Cru... which Dr Dre was a member. So good to hear Dad mention him.
Yup, also Master P was inflenced by the independent rap scene in Northern California, he he was rapping out of Richmond, CA early in his career
You HAVE to put dad on Mystikal he's easily the best artist but he's 1 of a kind. Both of y'all mentioned something that relates 1. You mentioned kind of a Busta Rhymes style you have to do their collab song.
2. Dad mentioned James Brown and Mystikal actually called himself "The James Brown of Rap"
Mystikal is the 1 guy of a group like Andre 3000, Wayne that doesn't miss. He delivers on his verse every time especially when you get tuned in to actually hear what he saying obviously he raps fast. But he isn't just throwing random words together fast he's actually saying some fiya ish!
Miss my Homey is sampled from the O'Jays "Brandy"... this song kind of carries on the same sentiment.
You’d have to listen to early Cash Money to really hear the uniqueness of the New Orleans sound. Back That Azz Up. I Need A Hot Girl. #1 Stunna. Etc.
Cash Money Is An Army
Masterp P turned $10,000 into millions. He also changed the whole rap game at the time. Even album art. Everyone copied the no limit style. He taught people how to make your own label, clothing line, He even started a cell phone company. He was the first true entrepreneur in rap.
Don't forget the independent movies.
They said that 😂
Man, this is Epic. Cash Money, No Limit, Outkast, Goodie Mob, etc. Do more of this!!!!
Master P is respected for his genius. As an artist, he was not that strong and it didn't matter. He brought the dope game mindset into the music business. He flooded the streets with the CDs. Quantity over Quality. I was a teen in those years, and we were like crackheads. Every few months there was another cd coming out that we had to have. I have bought so many No Limit CDs! 🤣🤣🤣
It was crazy when No Linit Soldiers came out..
@@SL3AK5 We lost our minds!
@@charlottedrolet9000 I thought I told ya 😆
No Limit was dope, such a fun time in my life and their music made up a fat chunk of the soundtrack to it.
MASTER P IS A ICONIC MOGUL! HELPED MANY CAREERS IN HIP-HOP
No limit and cash money were going at it with the hits
Favorite Era of Rap
When I tell you I cannot stand the way Silk the Shocker raps but I know his songs. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I'm laughing 😂but I love it. Err' body says he's garbage.
Right he always messing up the songs
Fell the same..I never thought he could rap and always turned the song down or off when he came on.. he rapped off beat..but waited for my boy Mystikal
I always hated how he rapped😂... that's why i can't get into some of this new rappers😂
Funny thing is Silkk can rap on beat he just chooses not to for whatever reason...just to stand out I guess
I love the connection son made to Pimp C’s verse and his untimely passing 🥹❤️💐
Mystikal ( The Man Rite Che ) Fuago 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hoodie hooo!! 😂 Aye the No Limit shirts n hoodies where underrated
Louisianan here! I still listen to this almost everyday! 😂 I live in Houston now tho. Louisiana just in me!
First song is a remake of turn off the lights from world class wrecking cru with Dr Dre.
Spot on Dad 😊
There’s a running joke that says Silkk The Shocker always outruns the beat.
Please listen to Bout It. It’s a classic!
Right. He either outruns it, or never quite catches it. Lol.
Always offbeat
The TRU album, C-Murder's first album, Mystical Albums. Boy, I could take you guys on a No Limit ride.....
Master P is a legend & icon, especially in the south. People look at him as more of a business mogul rather than a rapper. A real HUSTLER
3:43 this was pre-shiny suit Diddy, the fit is just how Southern folks & pimps dress up
Additionally he was the most successful out of the trunk sales artist. He sold his own cds for $20 from coast to coast
Trick Daddy made a similar basketball video, with his label mates, that Pops might also enjoy. It's called Take it to the house
Gangsta lean would beat one day for a "funeral song".
Facts
Oh Yeah it's time for Some Mystikal Now!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Glad you made this one, brings back memories. No Limit had it locked down in the late 90’s early 2000’s. Was always something to look forward to from them.
Haven't watched yet, but it better be "bout it bout it", "pull a kick door" "make crack like this" ... 3 of most people's favorite
I don't mind the choices he made for introducing it to someone new, especially someone not super familiar with rap, but I agree those were very mid-level songs in the Master P catologue.
Kick door
And these!
I'm from Louisiana and I met Master P and took a selfie with him as he introduced his new basketball league along with other famous celebrities. Nipsey Hustle funeral was the weekend before, he flew into Shreveport, Louisiana from California.
Mia X is so talented & beautiful. She was one of the first women to be a part of a male crew. She kind of set the precedent for the guys to have a leading lady in their crew like Lil Kim in Junior Mafia, Foxy Brown in the Firm, Trina in Slip N Slide, Gangsta Boo in 36Mafia…Mia X started that trend.
My favorite rapper when I was a kid and I was born in 91 so I was young listening to Master P and watching the Im Bout It movie lol
No Limit put out 23 albums in 1998. 10 went platinum, 11 went gold. That is just in-sane! That was the same year as DMX, Jay-Z, Big Pun, The LOX, Gang Starr, NORE, Cam’ron, Lauryn Hill, Busta Rhymes, Method Man, Redman, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit and OutKast all released hugely successful albums. The south definitely has had something to say ever since.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
They came in SWINGING 😭😭😭
Amazing review of Master P! I think your Dad would really enjoy a few songs from Project Pat from his “Mista Don’t Play” album. He’s another legend from the south, he came from the 3-6 Mafia camp
Mia x killed this
Love that you put on Make em say Uh for Dad
Oh man it's about time yall covered our Louisiana legend. Yall should react to his Tru album.
Can't wait till y'all dip into Mystikal
Needs to happen sooner than later
No Limit released a new cd almost every Tuesday between 1998-2001. They had over 20 artists. They were going gold every week. 500k copies sold was a huge accomplishment weekly. They had a production team that really led to this consistency of sales.
It had to do with the deal he got. He got offered a million and his brother C Murder wanted to take it. P was smart and brokered a deal unheard of. He was like the only rapper in the game with real money.
Growing up, my favorite ever was No Limit. I have every CD they came out with... Every Movie DVD, Master P Clothes, Doll, speakers and amps, food... Man that dude had so much! He got his start out here in the bay area where I'm from. Smart man...
Fiend was one of my faves on the label. Hes the second artist to rap. His albums are so good, oast to present. He's one of the few that is still putting out music. Silkk is very well known for not ever being on the beat, he's even admitted it. As a 42 year old adult, it drives me nuts. But back in the 90's, you couldn't tell me anything bad about any of them. Brings back so many memories, I love it! Mia X was the "Mother" of the whole label. Aka "Mama Mia." I have so much useless knowledge of No Limit Records, lol.
The song was so big that even Baltimore club music used bits from the mystical verse for a song.
He Played in the NBA as well.
Yes! When I found that out just after recording this video i couldn't believe it, plus with the Raptors too?! 🇨🇦

I have a suggestion. 2pac "Still I Rise"
Master P started before 1999. Sold cassette tapes and cd's out of his car. He also had a Nickelodeon show with his son Romeo.
Master P doesn't get the recognition he deserves.
That Swag, came from the soul.
Not Diddy
East Coast
Yolk Clothes
YESSSSSS
So Southern
Master P, Fiend , Silk, Mia X, Mystkal on Ugh...
I was having flashbacks this entire video. A nice stroll down memory lane is what you guys gave me this evening. Today is Saturday, March 9th, 2024. I was graduating middle school and getting going in high school around this time. The lyrics weren't amazing from Master P or Silkk; but they were on some really nice sounding tracks.
Another great review
Down South Legend 💯💪
The Ice Cream Man...a sample from Dr. DRE beat...Before You turn out the lights
Master P got me thru some rough times in the 90s MasterP will always be part of my life somehow.
You definitely need to add Master P- Bout it, Bout it to an upcoming episode
I really love your channel. Start with the geto boys pre we can’t be stopped. The Rick Ruben album. It really deals with a lot of mental health.
Please do this whole album!
Cover TRICK DADDY! He definitely was doing it in the South.
His hits:
Shut Up
Lets Go
Ima Thug
Take it to the House
In The Wind
I never understood why Master P isn't in the mainstream music anymore, as I commented before my father told me to listen to less music but I never listened now that he has transitioned I can't help to wish I could have the time with him and explain how music is so important to me and then I realize he knew but he also trying to help work less. But also is music that helped me feel and connect with him in the spirit world and the dream and feeling I felt when I came to New York and had forgotten about manifested and came back alive. So music is the connection.
The shiny suit wasn't an influence from Diddy. It was from Bishop Don Magic Juan and the Player's Ball.
I think your dad would like:
Master P - Burbons And Lacs,
Master P - Always Come Back To You,
Snoop Dogg & Master P - Snoop World!
Other No Limit-records:
Snoop Dogg & Mia X - Slow Down,
Mystikal - Ghetto Fabolous,
C-Murder - Ghetto Millionaire,
C-Murder - Where Do We Go
✨
I was hoping you’d do “Burbons and Lacs”. I wanted to see if your dad would recognize the beat they sampled for it.
I don't know if anyone remembers this, but back when Make Em Say Ugh came out, the Sci-Fi Channel used the hook in its promos for the channel. It was not Master P's voice, but the computer generated voice they used for its promos saying the hook to Make Em Say Ugh. It didn't run all the time and didn't last long.
You nailed it - it was the scale with which one of their hits would hit. Make em Say was massive - then Mystikal had some great features and Shake Ya Ass was massive - it was particularly cool because they were independent
I love No Limit so much! Mystikal and Mia X are my faves. I owned all of their CDs I think.
Mac- Boss B***** (w/ Mia X)

This makes me wanna find those CDs. Lol gotta make a playlist. lol
99 percent of Master P's business knowledge was given to him by E-40 when he was out in Richmond, CA. Salute 40 water Bay Area legend from Vallejo, CA.
Dad is keen. He mentioned Dr. Dre. The beat is a sample from The World Class Wrecking Crew, which was Dre’s first group!
You may also enjoy Feels Right, it was a collaboration between Mystikal and Bruno Mars performed on SNL

He's a great entrepreneur. I remember in my WWF days he joined with his own crew and blessed us with R Truth lol
Master P thinking about you. Your dad might like the piano in that one
I'm 45 and kai hope I'm not spelling it wrong I love what you're doing. I sent my dad one of y'all's videos because while I of course listened to his music I never really sat him down and played mine. Love the concept love the channel
You guys NEED to check out 2 no limit artists in particular.. Mac "Mac Phipps" , he put out 2 classics on No Limit. He's the most lyrical and best story teller from no limit. He got falsely accused of murder when his career was going to take off. Spent 21 years in prison for it and now he is out doing great things. Also Mia X is one of the greatest female emcees , if not the greatest .
Mac was fire
@@russellsirmans1269 still is.
I was hoping you were gonna play bourbon n lacs but still a fire video
Master P, Silkk and C-Murder also started touring with 2Pac. They all got their start in the bay area
It's funny he brought up Dre, when Dre is the one who Master P sampled for this song. This beat was from "Turn off the lights". By the world class wrecking crew. That's where Dre got his start, and this song was like his first big hit.
One of the GREATEST UA-cam channels BY FAR❗
Lil Wayne is from New Orleans, so i think you guys have covered attists from there
Not a sports fan per se but attended a Charlotte Hornets pre-season game just to see Master P play. Panthers stadium was packed like it was the playoffs! Mia X was sitting courtside. A couple others from No Limit were there but I can't remember exactly who but I remember Mama Mia being there for sure. But when P came out the locker room all you hear is uhhhh uhhhh na na na na and the crowd erupted and went completely wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiild!!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Was NO question who we came to see 😂😂❤❤❤
Gangsta Lean by DRS will definitely break him down especially if he sees the video
This is indeed played at funerals to this day.
Master P also played in the NBA
Another group which released many mixtapes is g-unit with their g-unit radio stuff. Since your dad loves 50 maybe show him some stuff from g-unit too. Love you guys and your content❤
They actually literally released every Friday!!❤❤💯💯
It’s so funny your dad said that the horns remind him of James brown. They use to compare Mystikal to James Brown… the rap version though…lol. Check out the song with him and Brun Mars. Perfect example
