I am a miserable 25 yo girl, working as an engineer. I'm miserable in my life and I've had an opportunity to finish my studies abroad. While preparing my file to apply, i realised how I will never be happy, whether I stay in my country or go abroad. I just hate what I'm doing. I've decided to start over and do medical studies. Everyone is discouraging me. This video was helpful. Thank you
@N Y well that's not my concern. My happiness doesn't revolve around anybody else but myself and my achievements.
I wish you the best, I know it can be hard but you can prove them wrong! We shouldn't live by societal timelines, it's OUR lives. Hope you doing well. A 21 yo girl in med school :)
ايش صار معاكِ يا ابتسام؟
Oh my god girl same. I'm 23 about to finish engineering and wondering why I chose engineering when I knew I wanted medicine. I feel miserable and I live abroad. I'm still on the fence though.
Do what's best for YOU 🙏❤️🌷
I’m 37 and convinced my decision of not going to Med school at 26 was a mistake that I learned a lot from. Now I’m making arrangements to go back to my path. I’ll be 50 one day, but I’ll be what I was called for by then. God help me!
Which country are you from?
I feel you dear,am 32 and all focus directed to medicine and I know I would be one of the best family medicine doctor of my time. Let's go dear, it's call we must answer else we will be held accountable when we transition to the world yonder
Hello!
I’m 34 and I’ve always aspired to be a doctor specifically an OBGYN. I’m now looking into going back to school to fulfill my dreams. I have two toddlers and a single mom. I’ve been trying to talk myself out of it because I know how much sacrifice it’s going to take, but I know the reward will be so much greater. Thank you for this video. I’m taking steps to get back in school.
Omg that is almost my story. I’m a single mom of two as well. I’m currently 31 and trying to revive my life long dream of becoming a doctor!

@@shirinsyed ,
Hi, I'm from India. I have my BE(EEE), MS(SS) and BL, practising as top rated medico legal lawyer. I liked to pursue medicine because right from my birth I have inquisitiveness in researching functioning of brain and I can't attain more knowledge just on interaction with people or reading/watching related books/videos. I can do more successful research only on becoming a nephrologist doctor. I heard Indians need to have NEET score which I can't pursue NEET because I didn't have biology in +1, +2 schooling. But I believe for graduates medical schools in UK, USA and Canada need not have to complete NEET to enter medical college. Is it restricted only to citizens of USA, UK and Canada or even to people like me from other countries? Please clarify. Thanks a lot.
Wow nice thought..
I started med school at the age of 30 in 2019. I’m currently an incoming 3rd year medical student studying in the Philippines. I’m very happy about my decisions.
I share about my journey through med school on my channel. Great video ❤️
Thank you 😊 and congratulations. I'm doing my 4th year in law, I'm 22. I plan to take maths, physics and biology after this so I can study medicine
I graduated in hrm (hospitality in other countries) here in the philippines when I took the course I only did it because it's what my parents wanted me to take and I didn't know what I wanted at the time. Now I'm 25, working and only until now that I realized my passion is in medicine, I kept on worrying about if I can still do it because of my age... Your comment as well as this video really helped in telling me that my age as well as what society says won't matter. And now I'm thinking of taking the NMAT and saving money to study medicine. Thank you 😊
@@AngronTheRedAngel You can achieve it. I also have older students in my class. All the best to you.

That societal timeline is so stressful really has made me think at 20 its too late. I have this deep deep want in my heart to follow my dreams to go into medicine to learn exciting things and I am my biggest obstacle. Sometimes its not easy to do things you want when you yourself do not cooperate. I guess before I can do what I really really wish and dream and yearn for I really need to fix myself and heal myself so eventually I can start healing others. This video gave me a pat on the head tho it really calmed my fear. I am going to go for it when I am ready. Ready for the challenge
What a wonderful pep talk! Thank you so much for this video
You're an absolutely beautiful human being. Even when you speak, you pour out smartness, maturity, kindness and compassion. I feel like you showed the people who watched this video the same compassion you show your patients. I felt sparks in my body with every word you said. Ever point you made perfect sense. "How does anyone know what they want to do for the rest of their life when they're sixteen" and "Society's timeline". These are some of the things I've realized in the past few years.
I sensed your joy when you talked about the buzz and fullfilment you feel when you walk home after working long shifts.
Maybe you hear this everyday. But I want to say you're a wonderful person. The world is lucky to have a doctor like you. God bless you.
Awww your comment is so sweet!

Thank you so much I was thought it's too late for me to do medicine. I am really inspired
I'm so lucky to have come across this video. I literally teared up listening to you talk.
I'm a 21 y/o, I was average in school but I did pretty bad in my last 2 years of school and since then my life has only been going downhill. Since last 3 years I took gap years, didn't do anything and kept applying for med school entrance exam because my family wanted it. I kept failing every time. I was in depression, I wasn't motivated to study, AT ALL.
Now I'm finally feeling the urge to study and get into med school and I believe in myself in a very long time BUT, I'm terrified to start so later in life and especially because I didn't do anything in those 3 years.
Hey! It’s ok if you work hard and are passionate you will get there eventually 🙂

You should enroll in some college course, anything that'll be your second option and you can bet on will make you happy in life. And while giving it an hour of your every-day life, prepare for the med school exam and I really hope this year you can get through this time of your life.
Masallah sister, I am proud of you. Thankyou for the support ❤

I’m 31 now and am a nurse but I always wanted to be a doctor and being a nurse has been amazing but my heart beats faster when I see doctors and the things they do. It’s Definitely my calling. I’m planning on going for it!
I'm 35 now, in school for my AS for radio tech then will go for my BS in imaging science. I just started thinking about maybe doing the MD path. Not sure yet, before all of this I been an aircraft mechanic and always a contractor because no on hires permanent, and we are always disposable and never really felt useful to people's life's. I started at 49. I will be finishing up my 2nd year in 2 weeks.
I’m pushing 40 and I’m in med school now (graduated of my 4 years premed in medical tech whilst still working) after a fallback career in the corporate & investment finance for years where I’m already in mid-leadership position. It’s scary to let go of the things i build up for years with my career. At first, I’m constantly fearful to restart all over again and change career path but so far getting into med school was one of the best decisions I’ve ever had so far. And It’s tough because my classmates were literally could be my kids already - being the oldest guy in the class definitely has its pros and cons. I’m always on edge and worry that I didn’t know everything at all whenever we have our exams and labs; learning is tough especially if you have other stuff in life aside from school with my age but I’m having a blast and never look back.
You are so inspiring!

Came across this video at the perfect time. I am currently preparing for my finals for my first year of Medical School. It's been a long and tough journey getting here and this first year of Medical School hasn't been the experience I'd imagined it being due to COVID-19. The passion and drive to study for my exams had faded through the year and it had made me question what I was doing here in the first place. This video has reignited that spark in me and reminded me of my journey getting into Medical School and why I wanted to study medicine in the first place. I needed this spark to re-motivate me to study that little bit harder and inshallah pass my first year exams. Thank you Shirin! Love your content.

I hated medical because my dad were forcing me to do it when i was 17. I ran away from home, working here and there. I tried to study history (my fav subject) but it doesn't feel good. I realise, i feel happy when i give service/help and people are thanking me. so, i tried to excel in hospitality but nasty customer put me into depression and I took it personal when bosses are critizing me even when i thought i'm trying to do my very best. so i left hospitality. now, i'm much older. whenever i comeback to my hometown seeing my father's face it makes me sad. I am old without any higher education. these past few days, i've been searching ways on how to enrol to med school. and here i am, thank you dr i wish this is the final answer that i am looking for. ❤

A small question related to that is there any age restriction which will stop me to become podiatrist surgeon or to get residency after DPM?

Hi, I was wondering if whether is it a must to do foundation years in the UK even though I want to do residency in the United States?

I really enjoyed your video 😃but I have a question because you came from the uk does that mean that you are younger than normal residents / interns ?

If you need to, can you work while in medical school? Although it's not exactly the same, I've heard of some nursing programs that don't allow their students to work or simply don't encourage working while in the program. I'm curious because medical school is pricey.
