My cuñado makes that joke all the time with me so I thought I wouldn't be surprised when Curly said that, but I gasped como una telenovela haha xD Gotta love Curly!

It’s so cool to realize that many different cultures have their own takes on somewhat the same thing. In Hawaii we use a machine and call it Shave Ice (not shaved, shave, it’s super soft ice). And I know white people have harder ice called Snow Cones. And now I see the piragua and raspado. And I like how Maya said the chamoy, cause in Hawaii we use li hing mui which is pretty much sweet saladitos. This is definitely one of my favorite parts about pero like, it’s nice seeing the similarities between the Latino and Hawaiian cultures.
From a raspado making dad, honey when you shave the ice you need to pick an angle and stick with it, other wise you make uneven angles and it's harder for you to shave the ice.
Iván is wonderful. Every time I'm feeling particularly disconnected from my PR herritage, he drops some gloriously 🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷 content. Like today, I was sad because this is the first three kings that I can't be home with my family. Then Iván's like--BOOM! 🇵🇷Piraguas🇵🇷. ❤️Thank you. Also he's cute AF, so there's that.
I CAN’T wait to go back to Puerto Riiiico this holiday 👏🏽😭♥️😍 I’m Mexican and my partner is Puerto Rican pero like Ivan el salio de la mero Isla 🌴😍🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷.. I fell in LOVE the first time I went PR! Got to go through almost all of Puerto Rico! I miss the piraguas, empanadas, coco 🥥, and the QUENEPAS🤤🔥👏🏽 I miss it all!!! Next stop next year is mi MEXICO LINDO🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽♥️♥️
Hello Pero Like. So happy to see latino/a/x representaition on UA-cam. Seriously hope you guys get bigger. As an African American girl with an Afrolatina Dominican grandmother I never really took time to get to know that part of my vulture and sometimes feel ashamed to claim it because i'm unaware of that lart of myself. However I recently just found out that my grandfather (my grandma's husband, who died before I was born) was a Half haitan man. My grandmother frequently refered to him as a latino man as well and honestly it confused me because I wasnt aware haitans were Latinos. It begs the questions are Haitans apart of the Latino/a/x community? Are they accepted by other latino/a/x's? I would love the answers to these questions if you ever see thus comment I would greatly apppreciate it😄
When I lived in NJ during the summer there were always vendors out with their piragua carts (the neighborhood is very Puerto Rican). I love piraguas (although in Cuba they’re called granizados)
In Suriname where I'm from, we call this Schaafijs (shaved ice) and we have it with all kinds of syrup like tamarind, orgeade (horchata), rose etc topped with water. For a special one you top it with a little bit of milk or zuurzak (soursop fruit). So fun to see that it's known all over Latin America and the caribean! The sesame syrup sounds interesting! :-)
That piragua cart made me re-live sooo many childhood memories. I looove piraguas. Pero me gustan de mantecado y frambuesa. I think Ivan has a great spirit and shows how Puerto Rico is. Keep it up! 👍🏻
Cubans do indeed have shaved ice, we call it a “Granizado”. I believe in some other countries it’s also called the same. Though guayaba & cheese always wins.
Which sounds like what the Italians would call it "Granita". So shaved ice has a bunch of different names in every country, but the same thing with modifications. With empanada you get something different every where you go.
Wow, we're also making it here in the Philippines. We call ours Iskrambol, strawberry syrup with powdered milk or condensed milk drizzled with chocolate syrup on top, yum😋 sometimes with sprinkles.
Any In the Heights and Lin Manuel Miranda stans here? Just me? Bc I personally adore Lin and ITH and started singing the second the notification popped up
This is so cool. Reminds me of when I used to go to La Plaza in Ponce, PR and eat a piragua. I loved frambuesa & tamarindo together. Ivan should do PR hot dogs next. I loved the french fry chips that they put in the hot dogs. 🔥
En Costa Rica 🇨🇷 se les llama Granizado y llevan (usualmente) leche en polvo en el medio y leche condensada arriba. En la playa se les pone helado y gelatina también!
Los piropos de Iván en este video XD "I'm gonna have them... taste my piragua." *con las cejitas* "Pruébalo, en lo que yo le raspo el hielo a Carolina." *casi muerto de la risa*
This is the first thing my husband told me about when I asked him about growing up in Puerto Rico! I have had shaved ice but he said it doesn't touch it!
Good thing my puerto rican ass lives in NYC cause after watching this im sooooooooo getting me a piragua. I ADORE THIS COLD TREAT! I always get crema con cherry. Awesome mix. Gracias Ivan por la video

In Panamá piragua is called "RASPAO". Originally it was just the flavor (juice), and condense milk. Nowadays raspaos have malted milk powder and cane syrup additional to the traditional version.
