    Well thank you very much.
    I learned more in two minutes than searching hours watching others simply replace parts without any proper explanation.
    This was awesome.

    Hi all! To my knowledge most engines use two types of Crankshaft sensors. 1. Inductive (magnetic) which are with one or two pins on the socket and which are capable of producing an electrical impulse without being supplied. 2. Those of hall-effect type that have 3 or 4 pins on the socket and that generate a digital pulse (square wave) provided they are supplied with a specific electrical current. Regardless of the type of Crankshaft sensor when measuring directly on the sensor with the multimeter, any type of good (not flawed) Crankshaft sensor must have a resistance of X ohms? I ask for your help in this problem because I am facing the following situation. My Crankshaft sensor no longer functional. I removed it from the engine and measured it with the digital multimeter directly on the pins. No resistance. I thought it was burnt (defective) and I bought an identical original one. When I received the sensor, before mounting it I tried to check it. Same thing. It has no resistance whatever the configuration of the measured pins. 1 with 2, 1 with 3, 3 with 1, etc. Nothing, no resistance in ohms, kohmi, although this sensor is new..
    My question is: Regardless of the type of sensor crankshaft as long as it is operational (good) when directly measuring it with the multimeter must it have a certain value? My sensor type is a Mitsubishi ME203180 and as I reported above. Neither the new nor the old multimeter measurements indicate anything. Obviously the scale of the multimeter is selected correctly. Is it possible to be a perfectly operational sensor and not indicate any resistance when measuring with the multimeter?
    Thank you in advance!

    thanks! i recently put in a NEW (but bad) CKP sensor and its apparently shorted internally- screwing up my fuel level gauge, ignition coil/ignitor(?) and setting off a host of other selonoids- et al! I cleaned all grounds, rebuilt my fuse box, new ECU, cleaned everything........no changes UNTIL i just now decided to swap back in the old CKP sensor. All the electrical clicking, etc went away immediately and Im not going thru the KEY RELEARN process for the new ECU

    Thank you very much for you reply, I got a brand new oem one, I guess there is a different issue now, I cant set the timing right, when I turn the cranckshaft by hand the rotor on the distributor won't turn in synch, you think that the timing chain stretched? Or oil pump is bad?

    • @ADPTraining
      @ADPTraining  10 років тому +1

      panchovillaxx7 It's easy to check for slack in the timing chain. More than likely you'll have to set the distributor timing or re-index the distributor.

      panchovillaxx7 [ I'mma start bringing top dead center your number one piston cylinder all the way up top on the compression stroke if you're turning the crankshaft with the number one spark plug out your put your finger over the hole and then your hair like up and it'll be pressure coming out the hole that means that piston is top dead center usually I would get a straw or a vacuum line and I put it in there but turn the crank shaft slow so the vacuum don't get stuck in there and then when it gets to the very top that'll be top dead center of the number one cylinder that would be your first step then you go from there

    • @lyndalapadura1112
      @lyndalapadura1112 6 років тому +1

      panchovillaxx7 at that point of top dead center of your rotor should be pointing to the number one on the distributor cap

    • @lyndalapadura1112
      @lyndalapadura1112 6 років тому +1

      panchovillaxx7 if you're turning the crankshaft by hand and the rotor isn't turning at all is in your timing chain wouldn't have to be broken cuz the chain connects the camshaft to the crankshaft and your distributor connects to the camshaft and so when your crankshaft is turning the camshaft you cam shaft is turning your distributor rotor is in the top of the distributor and if that's not moving

    i have a 99 mercury villager 3.3 and in a period of a couple days it started running bad and now is stone cold dead wont start not even one hit on one cylinder in hundreds of cranks. On my vehicle it says the crankshaft position sensor only detects misfiring--if its bad could it result in a no start condition?? Its virutally impossible to get at and requires removing the exhaust with impossible to get at bolts im out almost a thousand dollars so far--any info would help on crankshaft position sensor which has little clear info on line and they give different ohms--one source says in the 500 range--but another says 180 ohms

    So if it's not a crank sensor issue it's likely the ECM? Been chasing this 2400 rpm cut out issue on my '04 Chrysler Concorde. It's throwing a crank sensor code. Gonna replace crank and cam sensors tomorrow and pray it works. If it doesn't, is it safe to assume it's the ECM? Would a bad ECM have shown a specific code or even be capable of showing a trustable crank sensor code? So many questions...I'll do the swap and see what happens. Great vid, thanks.

      you are testing the circuit integrity from ecu to sensor. remember you could have a shared circuit with other sensors that could be shorted to power or shorted to ground or ecu could be sharing the signal to the others. read wiring diagram before committing.

    Hi there , you ever come across a 93 cherokee with a crankshaft sensor problem? I have this 93 cherokee 4.0 six In line, I have tried 2 already, the first one will make the jeep run but poorly, the second one it idles fine but when I give it gas it back fires and it chokes, compression is good, replaced the distributor, wires, rotor cap, coil, it does have an option to advance or retarded the timing.
    It is an after market sensor.

      panchovillaxx7 Yes, yes and yes... This was very common on Jeep 4.0L. Use only an original crank sensor. Mechanics sometimes go through a few of these aftermarket sensors and end up getting it from the factory or dealer.

      I have a 96 that just gave in and i had to supply the VIN number to get the right one. I went straight to my Jeep dealer thinking i could just say its a 96 Cherokee but theres 5 different types of CPS. In the end i removed it and told em the part number that was on it.

      Yes, there were several systems on Jeeps back then, made by Siemens, Bosch and others. That was good thinking removing the CRK sensor and getting the PN.

      +Stacy Britten Wow
      Explaining where it is, is a bti silly to be honest.
      Passenger side. Forward of your manifold, to the right of your oil stick, down in a cubby hole. It is below were 3 loomed wire clusters meet 1 large wife cluster that is loomed, it is under it.
      8mm socket, a LONG extension and a pair of needle nose to remove it and about 2 minutes.
      Sticking it back in, same process

      Auto-Repair Software & ADPTraining On some Chrysler/Dodge if you don't put OEM, it's not gonna work properly. I'm curious why is that?

    • @ADPTraining
      @ADPTraining  10 років тому

      Imperfect manufacturing tolerances that the adaptive memory can't correct for.

      some non original parts are very inferior but they will be cheaper and should still be fit for purpose

    • @ADPTraining
      @ADPTraining  9 років тому

      Yes you're right. Often out of 3 or 4 tries one aftermarket cheapo work fine. So it is cheaper and helps out if the customer has little money.
