@@theALTF4 His wife, Lauren Faust, did have a hand in writing the characters (I thought I read somewhere that she was the inspiration for Frankie in Foster's). It's bittersweet how Craig himself manages to create more lovable shows in his career, yet the Powerpuff Girls, the one show that started it all, keep getting bastardized by Hollywood.
@@michaelstrong5383 Hearing that about Faust wouldn't surprise me at all. After all, McCracken heavily based the character Mac in 'Foster's' off of what he himself was like as a kid (i.e. His father died when he was very young, hence why Mac's father is never even mentioned in the show).
They made Professor Utonium the bad guy...The CW made the sweetest cartoon dad, the same guy who protected his girls from his manipulative old college roommate that wanted to extract the chemical X from them which would KILL THEM FOR PROFIT.....an abusive asshole WTF?!? edit: The name of the episode is "knock it off"
Several years ago an animated parody called HBO'S Powerpuff girls was made where the girls were grown ups with a bunch of real world problems. That was not supposed to be a template to follow.
Next up Dexters Lab where Dee Dee is now a lesbian who hates her drug addict dad and Dexter is attempting to transition into a non toxic male to further his career as a journalist instead of a toxic scientist.
You mean the adaptation where Dexter is 4channer and Dee Dee is actually a true genious who's even betterer than dexter? And maybe she is black and he is iliterate, something like that.
I can't wait for this show's depiction of Him's gender dysphoria, Fuzzy Lumpkin's body positivity, the RowdyRuff Boy's toxic masculinity, and Princess Morbucks's rich privilege.
Buttercup the tomboy, who actually had crushes on boys is a lesbian, why is Utonium who was a good father now a terrible shitty parent. These people must have seen the feminist episode and raged so hard to do this.

Honestly, them calling him 'Dad' isn't a bad idea. Heck, I'll admit, there are a few things about the script that could be interesting to explore. Specifically, Blossom dealing with trauma. Trouble is, the execution is ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. Like, why make Buttercup gay? Why make the Professor a terrible father? Why claim that the original cartoon is a cash-in creation that, by the way, whitewashed the characters? WHY TAKE AWAY MS. BELLUM'S POSITION AS THE MAYOR'S ASSISTANT? WHY MAKE MOJO HUMAN?!??! WHY GIVE HIM A SON?!??!? Also... WHY MAKE BUBBLES INTO AN AIRHEAD?!?!???!?!?!?!???!?!??!\\ To paraphrase a quote from Ian Malcolm... CW: "What if Powerpuff Girls IRL and edgy??? That's freagin genious!!!" There was an episode called "Town and Out" where the Powerpuff Girls moved into a "regular" city, lived in a crappy small apartment, couldn't fly because the entire city is a "No fly zone" so they have to walk, took the bus to a regular school with unfriendly kids that laughs at their weird behavior and looks, and when they try to stop criminals they destroy public property that costs millions... it was both funny and depressing!
In the original cartoon Blossom was the only one of the three girls who had ice breath. The writers have done zero research for the simplest of details, but am I really surprised?
Was just about to comment this. It's in the first paragraph of Blossom's Wikipedia page. That's how little effort went into this. That's how little everyone cared.
Wow. Okay, theory: whoever leaked this script is actually a dedicated CW employee that got fed up with people saying that their network will just air any old garbage as long as it has brand recognition and enough pandering.
Alternative theory. Disgruntled CW writer who was just told off by the CEO about this shit script, thought that since it was the masterpiece it *clearly* is, they could leak it, get massive public support(and hate from 'racist') which would force the CEO to change his mind.
@@SallinKari Theory 3: this was just an extremely clever and long shitpost written by a disgruntled anonymous fellow just to show how much disdain he has for this remake. Kinda like Birdgirl, only he ain't getting paid for this brilliantly long shitpost.
Remember how Lauren Faust was on the record some years back saying that one of her joys is creating characters that show that it's okay for girls to be tomboys, or girly, or anything in between and that doesn't mean that they have to fit stereotypes around that? Nah, let's take one of her characters and make her a compulsive lesbian because all tomboys MUST be. I'm surprised poor Buttercup hasn't been made nb, that's the new thing to gaslight tomboys with.
Obs Blossom should be nonbinary because she’s a leader, and obviously only boys can be leaders so this causes her gender dysphoria and she disidentifies with girlhood. And her name is ‘Blossom’ meaning the flowers, and flowers have both Male and female parts, so it’s always been clear.
@@umwha And Bubbles' favorite color is blue. Blue is associated with men so she also suffered from dysphoria, rounding out the trio. The day is ruined, thanks to The Powerpuff Thems!
Yeah, the modern thing with tomboys being labeled as trans or queer gets my goat not only because I was a tomboy growing up, but also because it just reinforces this false notion that if you behave in a way that’s unconventional for your gender, it must mean you’re LGBT. Being a straight girl doesn’t mean you have to be completely feminine, just as being straight guy doesn’t mean you have to be completely masculine.
Literally speechless at the "they whitewashed us" bit. Couldn't believe how fucking blatantly disrespectful it is to the original source material. How does a writer get away with this sort of garbage? Seriously, who on earth gives a writer like this the rights to adapt their property when this is how it is treated? Like I actually don't understand it at all.
Buttercup: I'm not wearing that dress anymore. It's compulsory heterosexuality. Me * a former, big Buttercup fan *: Yep. Because those are definitely words that you'd know and say, Buttercup. Sounds just like how I remember you sounding. I even heard the line in your voice.
@Irishca Mahariani I know right? What’s funny is these are the same people that complain about gender roles when what they’re doing is reinforcing them. All the tomboyish characters are portrayed as butch lesbians.
I also want to note how the writers' idea of "grown-up" includes gross over-sexualisation of the characters and glorification of stuff like drugs. Like, come the fuck on. It's crazy to believe that the people who came up with this were probably 20-30, when this script reads like a fanfiction's attempt at maturity by a thirteen-year-old. Hell, that's an insult to fanfiction, because at least the writers of it actually CARE about the media they're writing about, quality be damned.
As someone who used to write fan fiction as a 13 year old and up as I grew up, you write fanfiction because You Love a property and have a story you want to tell, and for the most part you are being respectful to the source material as much as possible unless you're writing some insane bullshit or want to push your agenda. It's like the people who are writing for this show don't respect what came before it, have no idea what they're writing about and just want to push a stupid agenda versus write a good story of what it would be like if the Powerpuff girls had grown up
It's sad when Warner's shows geared towards kids treat their characters (who are in puberty themselves) with more respect than this so-called "adult" stuff.
Not to mention that one of them is hungover at 17. Wut? And one of them is actively cheating on her GF, and lying about it. TV used to be about preaching morals. Now it's about glamourising debauchery.
It amazes me that there are women who are ready to roast an artist for taking a fictional, canonically child character and draw them aged up to an sexy adult, but would completely sign off on a script that takes a fictional, canonically child character, ages them up, place them in Alphabet City, and have a scene depicting said character in the sex afterglow. These people are contrarian and miserable, the lot of them.
I remember recommending Powerpuff Girls to some random parent years ago when I was working at a video store, they came back and complained that it scared their kids. The kids were about ten. I just thought at the time that if Powerpuff Girls scared your 10 year old's, you failed as a parent, and life is going to be very hard for them when they find out the real world can be an unfriendly place. The funny thing is, they should have been more worried about stuff like this.
The script is so surreal that I genuinely could see this as the writter trying to make it as bad as possible just to see what they could get away with CW

I didn't even grow up with Powerpuff Girls and I feel offended by this script on something deeper than just the fact that it's of terrible quality. And I thought the Kim Possible movie was the bottom of the barrel for this crap, ugh.
Honestly the Kim Possible movie was not awful (I watched it and I know I know, I sound crazy.) I feel like the trailer made it seem way worse than it actually was and those who had a lot of nostalgia for the series could not let it some things go. It had some nice moments and references but yes there were certaintly parts that really dragged it down quality wise. Despite the film not doing well I felt really bad for the young people involved because they were just teenagers, who were quite talented, who probably liked the show when they were younger themselves and got hate from mainly grown adults. 😕 And now I feel bad now because I know at least some actors here that are rumoured to star in this that are pretty good so I hope it isn't a mistake.
Same. Never seen a single episode, but this script makes me want to reach through the screen and slap whoever wrote it. I've never seen a remake with so little respect for it's source material and for the audience that enjoyed it. If Disney remade every cartoon I ever enjoyed as a kid into a lazy, boring cash grab like the Kim Possible movie, I would be infinitely happier than even a single one of those shows being turned into this vile piece of garbage.

Why reboot a franchise that you don't even care enough to watch to see why people liked it in the first place?
It's all about the fake drama. The girls couldn't have drama if the professor were a good father and CW just can't possibly make a show without the fake drama.
The biggest difference is Umbrella Academy embraced the weird concepts of the source material. This live action reboot actively hates the source material it comes from, and lowballs its weird parts.
And this was just the pilot episode. If the pilot ep was ths bad (can't imagine the re-tooling is going to be much better), imagine how much of a nightmare the rest of the series would be.
The depressing part is, regardless of what it is they're ruining, it's always going to be tooled for some actresses/actor to attempt to get their foot in the door with a new role.... They don't care what it is they're ruining, they just want their moment in the spotlight.
Or they could maybe like the project and maybe they have faith people will like it (which is misguided I know but sometimes it is like that for some people). I'm accepting it ONLY if "the girls" are those criminals in disguise from that one episode. Live action. Clearly men in dresses n helmets yet everyone is oblivious. Explains their behavior.
@Dominic The Donkey I can only imagine the amount of shipping wars that would ensue. There was actually an episode in Omniverse where some alien game show host took Tennyson and made every girl in his life compete for the chance to marry him. And when I say every girl, I mean every girl that was relevant to the show. Also, the CGI for Ben's aliens would be trash.
I figured the script would be bad and a bastardization of all things Powerpuff, but this was 100 times worse than I imagined; it was flat- out sickening. It's clear the deviants who wrote this have no familiarity with the actual, original show. Not even taking into account the grotesque, disturbing sexualization of the Girls, here are a few other things I picked up: 1. As others noted, having all three Girls be able to possess Ice Breath goes completely against the original show. In the original show, Blossom was the only one who had Ice Breath, it was part of what made her unique. Bubbles's unique ability, in turn, was her linguistics skills (She was fluent in at least three languages: English, Spanish, and Squirrel), and while Buttercup for a long time didn't appear to have any unique ability of her own, she eventually learned that she can kind of curl her tongue in a way that neither of her sisters (Or anyone else in town, for that matter) could. 2. Bubbles being made out to be such a depraved, hedonistic monster in this is made even more ridiculous by the fact that, in the original show, she had the most "Normal" personality out of the Girls (Other than her aforementioned squirrel- talking, of course). She actually acted/ thought like a typical kindergarten- age girl, who enjoyed things like coloring, singing, and playing with her stuffed animals. For her to grow up to become a Paris Hilton- esque drunken, fame- seeking mess, as this script suggests, seems completely out of character for her. I'd see an adult Bubbles either becoming a kindergarten teacher herself, or perhaps a zookeeper since she loved animals. 3. The portrayal of Buttercup in the script advances a pretty offensive stereotype, that all tomboys MUST be raging lesbians. For people who undoubtedly view themselves as spreading "Tolerance" and "Diversity," they seem pretty freaking closed- minded about tomboys. 4. What they did to Professor Utonium in that script was despicable and the polar opposite of how he was in the original show. In the original show, he was an amazingly kind and loving father and person in general, who wanted the girls to lead as normal lives as they possibly could (THE GIRLS were the ones who wanted to be superheroes, he didn't push them into it at all, and in fact would often curtail their superhero exploits to meet their other needs such as getting to bed on time). As I recall, in 'The Powerpuff Girls Movie,' some of the saddest moments involved when he was arrested and thus unable to pick the girls up from school, and was begging and pleading with the police to let him go so he could pick them up, because of how genuinely worried for them he was. His love for the Girls and desire to protect them from being exploited especially shone through in the classic episode "Knock it Off." In that one, we see Professor Utonium willing to potentially sacrifice himself to save the Girls from harm (That episode's villain kidnapped the Girls in order to drain the Chemical X from them for his own purposes, and the Professor showed up and basically said "Look, please, just let them go, and you can keep me instead; I'll stay with you and make you all the Chemical X you want if you just let my Girls go!"), and his fatherly love for them is so strong that it actually BRINGS THE GIRLS BACK FROM THE DEAD in the end of the episode! For this abysmal script's writers to reverse that wonderful character's personality and make him so mean and unlikable was truly abhorrent.
Thank you for pointing it out. I'll point some of my problems with this script as well. 1. Bubbles was supposed to be the most kind and empathetic one of the girls, and yet in the script it's like she doesn't care about anything other than fame and money, she seems completely detached of her family, not caring about Blossom passing out or being traumatized for killing someone. Not caring about the feelings of the guy who proposed to her while she sold the ring in order to buy drugs. Not at all a good representation of an adult Bubbles that fans would like. 2. Buttercup whole character is defined by her sexuality and talking sex. There is this scene that the whole family walks on her having sex in the house and they all just stand there talking. I think they were trying to portray an empowering scene where she is not afraid to show that to anyone that she is a lesbian, but it just comes off as a completely awkward scene that makes no sense in reality. 3. Professor Utonium really is just a plot device for the girls to end up the way they are without being blamed for it. Almost all problems in the girls life are caused by the fact the Professor was a terrible father and this really comes off as a really fake self-made conflict to all fans since we all know the professor was a really good father in the original show. 4. The ending of the pilote just doesn't make any sense to me at all. As the girls decide to throw away everything they had, (jobs, boyfriends, dreams, houses) to go back at being superheroes in Townslive, even though the city apparently really safe now and they didn't erased the original fact that they were prohibited to act as heroes because they accidentally killed Mojo. It's almost like they were addicted to being adored by the city so when everyone started praising them and asking them to come back they happily decide to throw everything away. So in the end it's like everything is reseted to how it was before except now they don't need to obey their abusive controling freak father, they can be super heroes on their own terms and everything will work out fine...
There are days when I ask myself...is my job really worth it? Am I wasting my time and energy there? Could I have done something better with my life? Then I see this script and realize someone's job was to write it and pretend it was actually good, and realize my job could be a heck of a lot worse.

I felt sorry for the 3 being treated like trash in that episode.
And it's regarded as one of the worst episodes of the show.
In the original cartoon Blossom was the only one of the three girls who had ice breath. The writers have done zero research for the simplest of details, but am I really surprised?
The 2016 reboot did the same thing. Is it really that hard to watch even a few episodes of the original to get the general idea of these characters?
Was just about to comment this. It's in the first paragraph of Blossom's Wikipedia page. That's how little effort went into this. That's how little everyone cared.
Wow. Okay, theory: whoever leaked this script is actually a dedicated CW employee that got fed up with people saying that their network will just air any old garbage as long as it has brand recognition and enough pandering.
They might have leaked it to try and see how the general public would react. Kinda a nation wide test screening via text.
He must be, or he would be banned from REeee. They usually do not tolerate any disparagement of The Cathedral, just look how much they defended Shera.
Alternative theory. Disgruntled CW writer who was just told off by the CEO about this shit script, thought that since it was the masterpiece it *clearly* is, they could leak it, get massive public support(and hate from 'racist') which would force the CEO to change his mind.
This would get made in current year.

Seriously, why does nowadays tomboy = gay?
@Irishca Mahariani I know right? What’s funny is these are the same people that complain about gender roles when what they’re doing is reinforcing them. All the tomboyish characters are portrayed as butch lesbians.
That's why I wasn't surprised when the script did the big reveal that Buttercup slept with a woman.
I was thinking this, too. So many of these shows bastardise young adulthood to inexplicable levels.
Considering I was watching the show at 6 almost religiously with my 2 year old brother and I was a bit of a cry baby, that parent failed hard.
Imagine writing the script that finally makes the CW say, "Guys... we're better than this."
The script is so surreal that I genuinely could see this as the writter trying to make it as bad as possible just to see what they could get away with CW

That she could have wrote down a better script that could have them as empowered them as woman. The fact that CW rejected this script after batwoman and supergirl says so much. The wokest network is the world said that this wasn't enough. Think about it.
So Mojo Jojo has a son now and said son is a mayor of Townsville? But like can you even be elected mayor in your early 20?
What I don't get is why Townsville would even elect Mojo's son as mayor even after all those years of his father trying to destroy the city? Even if it's a Trump metaphor, it still doesn't make sense.

The professor was the one against it, because he saw them as kids. Holy shit I wasn't even big into the show back in the day and I know that.
Why reboot a franchise that you don't even care enough to watch to see why people liked it in the first place?
It's all about the fake drama. The girls couldn't have drama if the professor were a good father and CW just can't possibly make a show without the fake drama.
This script felt like a really, really, REALLY bad version of The Umbrella Academy 😬
A reasonable comparison. I'm so glad Umbrella Academy is actually good.

I am 2 minutes in and I’m already desperately begging for this to end. You are very brave.
Well actually it was rumoured that a one or two already established actors were staring in this which makes me both excited and sad because of the hate they will likely get.
Blind faith in any of this would require no understanding of the source material either way, which kind of proves my point, but I'm sure someone who needs to thumbs up their own comment is somehow going to try to prove me wrong...
@@wroseyarn1430 I know this was three months ago but number one: I didn't thumbs up my own comment, I don't know why you assumed I did. Why would I? @Dominic The Donkey I can only imagine the amount of shipping wars that would ensue. There was actually an episode in Omniverse where some alien game show host took Tennyson and made every girl in his life compete for the chance to marry him. And when I say every girl, I mean every girl that was relevant to the show. Also, the CGI for Ben's aliens would be trash.
@Dominic The Donkey truly we live in the darkest of all timelines 😔.
I don't normally do streams but I couldn't let this horrid trash fire escape my sight.
I figured the script would be bad and a bastardization of all things Powerpuff, but this was 100 times worse than I imagined; it was flat- out sickening. It's clear the deviants who wrote this have no familiarity with the actual, original show.
Not even taking into account the grotesque, disturbing sexualization of the Girls, here are a few other things I picked up:
Well said.
Wow we just got started and not even a minute in they already messed up by giving bubbles ice breath...
There are days when I ask myself...is my job really worth it? Am I wasting my time and energy there? Could I have done something better with my life?
