    Just got my '02 back yesterday from the shop after a LBJ failure. Glad you went OEM and are keeping it serviced. Interested to hear your experience on the 891's. After a lot of reading on the t4r forum I ended up ordering 890's as I don't carry a lot of weight and only tow a couple times a year.

    • @mattuccibuilt3970
      @mattuccibuilt3970  2 роки тому

      OEM is certainly needed for LBJ's, it sucks you had to go through that. Also yeah, I do feel like the ride is slightly stiffer than I would like it to be, but eventual I plan on doing a new drawer system and probably a rooftop tent so I don't want to sag too much. good luck with installing them though.

    Excellent video! My 2001 4Runner is so bouncy my mom won't ride in it (it hurts her neck) & I don't like how bouncy it is for myself even! It's a two-wheel drive, stock suspension factory 16-in rims, even Michelin tires, buy it still rides like a jumping jack on a pogo stick! if I do these upgrades you've done, will my 4Runner become even bouncier or more smooth?

    • @mattuccibuilt3970
      @mattuccibuilt3970  2 роки тому +1

      For me, my 4runner had a floaty squishy feel before these but now it's stiffer and has a more stable feel so if youd like a suspension upgrade with a lift for offroad then yes I recommend these. But also it sounds like any new OEM or oe replacement suspension will take care of your problem if you don't necessarily need better offroad performance.

    • @mattuccibuilt3970
      @mattuccibuilt3970  2 роки тому

      I am not completely sure, I do have some angle to my front upper control arms and want to do some new ones to adjust for it. I haven't worked on a 5th gen but from my knowledge the suspension geometry is very similar to the 3rd gens. My parents have a 5th gen 4Runner and got the dealership 'leveling' kit for warranty reasons so I'll look more at those arms to see any differences.

    • @mattuccibuilt3970
      @mattuccibuilt3970  2 роки тому

      The bottom slot, any aftermarket springs should use the bottom from my understanding. Only OEM can use the other slots.

  • @Frechette50
    @Frechette50 2 роки тому +1

    did u know if you can run the oem front coil spring with the bilstein 5100 strut to 2 inch lift setup ?

    • @mattuccibuilt3970
      @mattuccibuilt3970  2 роки тому +1

      I believe that it will, the bottom of the 5100's have 4 slots that you can put the clip that holds the bottom of the spring mount. So you have 4 different options for height adjustment, and I'm sure someone has done them all with stock coil springs to see the heights, possibly check the forums? The old man emu springs that I put on recommend running it on the bottom perch so it has the most room because it is a taller and stiffer spring. But I think it's a decent option to do an even more budget lift with the OEM springs.

    I had a catastrophic LBJ failure on my 01 last week (doing 65...) and am rebuilding the whole suspension and will be using your setup for shocks/struts. Have you had any issues w the CV axle boots rubbing since you lifted it? Especially since you didn't do a diff drop.

    • @mattuccibuilt3970
      @mattuccibuilt3970  Рік тому +1

      Wow! That's fast for it to fail, I hope everyone involved is doing good. The cv axle boots do not rub on any other components, but they do technically rub more on themselves now. Any lift will do this and if you have factory cv's that 20-27 year old rubber will most likely split. I don't feel the diff drop would have done anything but get in the way of the skid plate, especially with how small the lift is, but it could get slightly more longevity out of cv boots.

    • @mattuccibuilt3970
      @mattuccibuilt3970  Рік тому

      The rc kit doesn't look like a bad option, from what I've heard rough country = rough ride, but I've never ran the kit so I can't say for sure. Bilstein/OME is the most budget setup when it comes to slightly higher quality suspension, that is of course subjective, and for me it fit the budget perfectly, so technically it is budget ;) I also do not see if you can get heavy spring rates in the rc and I wanted them. I had spacers on there before and those are the most budget it gets, they are that price for a reason though, same with on the other end, foxes, kings, dobinsons, icons, etc

    Looking for a 2 inch lift from factory and every lift video I watch uses 5100s but with a different combination of springs. So confusing! I understand if you have heavy front/rear bumpers you require heavier springs, but whats the best OME combo for stock weight?

    • @mattuccibuilt3970
      @mattuccibuilt3970  10 місяців тому

      It is confusing! My front 881's gave pretty close to 2" and I think the 890 in the rear would give pretty close to 2". If you have a little bit of time though, I would recommend saving a little more and getting 2.0 shocks and springs from someone like Bilstein, Fox, or Icon, that's what I wish I would have done.

    • @vbnautical5041

    • @mattuccibuilt3970
      @mattuccibuilt3970  10 місяців тому

      @vbnautical5041 2.0 just refers to the shock body diameter, the bigger the better in almost all regards with shocks. I spoke without doing much research though, Bilstein doesn't technically make a 2.0 the 5100 looks like a 1.95" diameter. I'd look into the 6112's for the front if sticking with Bilstein, but the 5100's are very good overall.

    I have a 2002 Sr5 4runner 2wd and will be carring alot of camping gear in the back and the front has a brushguard. With your experience what spring 890's 891's and shocks would you recommend as I would like to lift my 4runner above stock height as I plan on doing some light overlanding in the future but im doing this on a budget.

    • @mattuccibuilt3970
      @mattuccibuilt3970  Рік тому

      891's are recommended for around 150 extra pounds, the 890's should just give more lift, and not necessarily support extra weight. So if your gear gets more than 150lbs I would do the 891's. I'm not sure how the fronts work on 2wd's, they may have a different setup. Bilstein 5100's for the shocks. This is great for a lower budget.

    • @mattuccibuilt3970
      @mattuccibuilt3970  2 роки тому +1

      I'm not an expert, but from my interpretations, the longer sway bar links level or straighten the sway bar where as if it's non-level or angled it's puts tension on the other suspension components because it is acting like a reverse spring. It also creates less travel overall I think because it is fighting the suspension when it is at max travel/droop especially when one side of the car is fully compressed and the other side is fully drooped.

The 906's in the rear will give around 2" so that would be perfect for what you want. I put the 881's in the front (should be 2" but I got about 1.5") and the 891's in the rear and got around 3", but can handle a lot more weight.
