    @mountainsgarage You fo realize that the pilot on the PTC converter unscrewed off of the torque converter? Before you welded in the center there is 2 holes for a spanner wrench to unscrew. Wouldn't it be better to remove and weld off of the converter instead of welding to the converter? That way if you ever decide to put trans and converter on another engine you can just unscrew and machine down?

    • @mountainsgarage
      @mountainsgarage  Рік тому +1

      Yes that would have been a better option but it would not move. :(

    Thank you! Exactly what I noticed with that slide in adapter. I’m running the fancy TCI flat flex plate with the raised pads. Converter would not pull up to them. Bottoming out in the adapter. Turbo car, has all the trans and thrust mods, but still beating on the thrust!

      I can now pull the converter up to the flexplate. Couldn’t with the slide in adapter. Can’t speak to the thrust. Not enough runs on the car.

    At 1st this really didnt make sense to me. By the end I figured out, you are letting the flex plate hold the converter from the pads and not the snout bottoming out and making it solid.

    Great video! Really enjoy all the th400 videos. I actually ran into this problem this last weekend. Wished I’d thought of this solution. I got rid of your favourite adapter spacer and added the factory one on the outside. Lol. Anyway, I have 0.200” between the flexplate and the torque converter pads. Close enough to 3/16” or should I shim it a bit with washers?

    • @mountainsgarage
      @mountainsgarage  3 роки тому +2

      I would shim, if you study the pump gears to hub relationship not much room for error.

      @@mountainsgarage Hey shawn! I apologize for bothering you again but I have a question on a subject that seems to get a ton of different opinions or answers what have you when it is asked but again I value your information I would like to know where is your ideal location for a transmission temperature sensor I have always just installed them in the pan because in my crazy brain that is where the filter is taking the fluid from and feeding it to the transmission Maybe I'm Wrong but I'm curious where you suggest I put it I was getting ready to drill and tap My Pan and figured now would be a good time to ask before I did thank you in advance sir I look forward to hearing from you

    Hi Shawn. I have a vega in which I plan to update with an LS since the engine needs to be redone and know nothing about LS so I am learning a lot through your videos.
    At first I thought you were describing a trans thrust washer versus the crank. Apparently this is an aside I will need to address also. Thank you for the info.
    Forgive my stupidity here, but as in Algebra in HS, I'm not following here. If the crank is attached to the flywheel and the flywheel is bolted to the converter, with or without your update, the crank should still get pressure, yes? So your mod is just to center the converter on the flywheel/crank, right? With or without your mod, and if the converter was spaced out a1/8th", the center of the converter won't touch the crank flange, right?
    I feel I'm missing something important here.

    • @mountainsgarage
      @mountainsgarage  3 роки тому

      The flexplate needs room to do its job and the converter should have room to slide in the crank. If the converter can’t move then its going to transfer force to the crankshaft.

    • @quartermilejunkie5439
      @quartermilejunkie5439 3 роки тому

      @@mountainsgarageThanks for answering Shawn. Is this because the converter hits the driveshaft instead of sliding in the hole? I know, like in algebra, the answer must be so obvious yet I can't see it.

      Whatever you get it only takes a minute to check. If it’s already attached to the converter wipe some grease in the end of the crank so when you hold the converter on the back of the engine you can see how much space is left.

    Hi I really like your videos, great info on the th400 transmissions, I understand what you doing with this mod letting the flexplate flex as It should and unloading the crankshaft, but if you run some sort of billet aluminium "flexplate" ( like me on my 2j) or this mod don't solve the issue for your buddy, an other way is to mount a roler bearing on the crankshaft like these guys m.ua-cam.com/video/lalaTWJ4mDo/v-deo.html about 4:30 in the video
    Don't know if you have seen this before or what you're opinion on this solution is? It's a lot more complicated for once...
