Arturia, I actually read the User manual for the micro freak and I have to say I learned so much about how synthesis works. Thank you for writing it in a way that was easily digestible for a beginner like me 👏
I think arturia hit the nail on the head with the microfreak. I have mine for few weeks now and I love it it.The oscillators are great in combination with the hardware it's just so much fun + the CV gate and touch velocity outputs in combination with the sequencer and the spice and dice function. My o-coast likes it as well thumbs up arturia
Really interesting things that you are doing, Arturia. Thanks. It’s a good time to be alive when you have companies like you offering up your offerings.

I've never used synthesizers before, so apologies in advance if my question is too silly, but can you alter/ filter/edit already existing instruments from a DAW (let's say Logic Pro X) by using this synthesizer as your MIDI controller? Or you have to stick to the presets from the MicroFreak? I need a way of altering my instruments live as I play
tutorial videos should showcase only the product...running the synth through two external effects adds a little misdirection. Show off the sounds this unit makes. Not the sound it makes after it goes through $700 worth of boutique effects pedals.
Agreed. Aturia, if this is a tutorial about the MicroFreak, why run it through other gear? As Richard points out, now we really don't know what the MF can actually do.
Just wanted to mention that you can't update MF if you have linux. This is sooo sad, especially because plaits is open source under the MIT license. But there could be other ways, e.g. novation has a browser based tool because browsers can handle midi now too. And if you don't want to code something for linux you could at least have used open standards so someone else could write something. Honestly it dampens the joy … linux is such a great, creative open source system and the MF is a really well thought out unit. They would go perfect together, spritually at least.
This is kind of a dumb question, but as someone who is new to the synth world, can something like this be plugged into a guitar amp? Whenever I watch demos on different kinds of synthesizers, I've always wondered what they're usually plugged into. And at the moment all I got is a solid state Orange amp.
couple of days ago i bought one. i tried it and i really loved it. its a great synth. today i registed it to my account and i updated the new firmware through midi conrol center. since then i cant hear nothing. the lil display is jumping all over the place. the lights go on and off. there is no sound to hear with the soundcard nor the phones. so the synth gone nuts after that update. now im soooooo pissed off. i wanted to make some music over the weekend and figure this synth out. btw 2 years ago i did a firmware upadate with the keylab 61 and had the ame problem which wasn't to fix due to support team. so i dont know what to do now..... very very sad!!!!!

‘Hi I’m Brian and I’m pretty excited to be sitting here with a micro freak’ is how they undoubtedly would have started videos about circus performers had UA-cam been around in 1919 😂
Oh, and inane comment aside $299 is unbelievable price point. I would have expected $449 or thereabouts. Distributors finally got a bunch in the US yesterday so mine ordered. Super excited to get it.

It would have been nice if you squeezed out a few more cents and included a user manual. Mine did not come with one, so I had to eat up a bunch of paper and time to do what you should have in the first place!

Please don’t use external effects when demoing a synth thanks... i want to hear the synth and internal effects only.
Agreed. Makes it look like they don't believe in their own product to stand on its own.
I agree! I bought one about two weeks ago. I am stunned by it. Just amazing...
Well, to be fair, most anyone will be using external effects, whether pedals or in DAW. In a home setup, at least. I do see your point.

It will not be controlled by the VCA. it will be controlled by the envelope. The VCA is what the envelope uses to attenuate the sound.

Great machine, sooo fun for the price
Is it possible to trigger notes per step (e.g. from a drum machine) like the 101 sequencer? Would be a killer feature!!!

What's the price for micro freak keyboard.
Good machine. It would have been great if it had balanced stereo jack outputs.
Does (or can) it control the soft-synths in V7 via MIDI?

Yes , the output is the same as a guitar
I put it straight into an amp sim plugin via the MPC. An actual nice sounding guitar amp would be much better

So, PIGMENTS OR MICROFREAK? 🤔
Pigments :-)
Micofreak. I have Falcon, sounds great but working with a mouse and virtual dials is soul crushing.
From a workflow standpoint the MicroFreak wins by far. It can’t do nearly as much as Pigments can but I can’t stand working with VSTs.
