    The reason almost nothing happened was because the bug was fixed. Any PC sold after 1994 had a fix in the bios to stop the problem from happening. Windows itself also had a fix.
    The only risk was really old embedded systems. But all companies everywhere running important software just had these embedded systems replaced or patched if possible.
    The panic was over nothing but the reason everything went so well was people working hard to fix the problem. Only some really unimportant old embedded systems like 10 year old pin machines broke because nobody bothered to check them for the bug.

      We have another Y2K like bug in 18 years time. The Y2K38 bug when 32 Bit UNIX based systems reach the maximum value of a 32 bit signed integer. For most people, it will be a nothing burger (since 64 bit has been a thing on PCs (and Windows uses its own time keeping system) since 2006 and phones since 2013) but again it's the embedded devices that will probably cause a problem.

      While I don't know the exact number, was less than 100, there were a number of parents whose testing for genetic defects in their unborn child were given false info due to a Y2K bug. Some abortions were carried out that didn't need to take place and other parents were not properly prepared for their children's needs due to being born with a disability.

    Oddly back then I had a crappy windows 95 pc (celeron, 200mhz, 1 gb hard drive) to do school work on. After we entered the year 2000, this computer was screwed with the dates. It would boot up and the date would be set at something like 1946 or 2096 (cant remember the exact date now). I would manually change it to the correct date and when turned off and booted up again, it would revert back to that wrong date. In the end to save myself the hassle I installed some 'Y2K' software that would auto set the date to the correct date. But yeah, overall the Millenium bug was nothing

      My old Atari 520 made in the 1980s continued to work. I had a pc with a Celeron 660MHz processor, a 4 or 6 gigabyte drive and Windows 98. The board no doubt post dated 1994 and it was fine. In the 1980s-90s, pcs used to live a bit longer than they do now, so there must have been a fair number of pre-1994 machines around still. Lots of people with old machines and there wasn't a mass outage at all.

    The Millennium Celebrations were the Greatest New Year's Eve celebration of the Century and the most legendary New Year's celebration in Contemporary history. The 2000 Today: The Great Global Millennium Day Celebration TV Special originated from the BBC, along with the ARTEAR El Trece Television Network of Argentina, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation of Australia, RTL Television and ProSieben of Germany, TF1 of France, the Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation of South Korea, the RAI Television Networks of Italy, GMA Network of the Philippines, Canal Once TV of Mexico, TV Asahi of Japan, and the American Broadcasting Company of the United States, monitored the Millennium Bug, which was unfortunately changed into the Millennium Flower that was handled by Miriam Quiambao during the GMA Network special coverage of the 2000 Today International Television special

    • @stefangray5795

      @stefangray5795 3 роки тому

      @Four Dimensions Seeing as I understand the similarity between idiotic people on what became known as social media in 1999, and now in 2022 I'd say my comprehension is pretty good. They are the same idiotic people, probably a bit more these days and more of them online for sure. My point is that these people always existed. You are talking to somebody who sent their first e mail in 1987 btw.

    • @stefangray5795
      @stefangray5795 3 роки тому

      @Four Dimensions There have always been stupid people with a lack of education but plenty of opinions. Over the last 20 years it has become easier for them to publish their opinions and inflict their inadequacies on other people via the internet. It has nothing to do with belief in a a god or religion. Your change in a tack from a discussion about social media to religious belief would imply that you require a psychiatric intervention in your life. Yes we understand, you are better than other people because you've got religion. Nothing to do with what was being discussed.
