She turns the simplest tunes into classics. With the voice other female vocalists try to emulate, but can't touch. And her musicianship is incomparable, as ever. She is simply the best at what she does, and a great Lady.
I grew up in the 60s in CT and Al's Wildweeds played at our church hall. Have always been a Big Al fan and Bonnie is my favorite singer of all time. I just love this video!
Wonderful song, I just love Bonnie, we (my wife and I are travelling our country in our caravan and have Bonnie on repeat in the car. We are bothe relearning music, Heather at 66 getting her voice back and me at 76 relearning guitar. I would love to get the tab for this 😊
sweet guitar playing. To take words on a sheet of paper and transform it into music that becomes a part of people’s lives is an incredible gift and a blessing
You can't write lyrics like these and not have lived them. Only the truth can manifest itself to such a beautiful sadness and that's why it's a truly great song. Thank you Bonnies. Leo Ameruba
Not Cause I Wanted To Bonnie Raitt Well, I'm callin' you 'cause you deserve to know You were not the reason that I had to go Late at night in these hotel rooms I think of all I've lost and what I've put you through If I knew the reason I would tell you Why somehow the feelin' slipped away I only did what I had to do Not 'cause I wanted to I've got a guilty heart and a troubled mind No matter where I go, they're never far behind I'd like to think that you've forgiven me But forgiveness ain't enough to wash my conscience clean And if I knew the reason I would tell you Why somehow the feelin' slipped away I only did what I had to do Not 'cause I wanted to I only did what I had to do Not 'cause I wanted to She delivers this song perfectly
Absolutely Beautiful! Bonnie Raitt is so Awesome! Her latest CD, SlipStream is a Masterpiece. Thanks for sharing this live clip. I keep searching You Tube for the finale' of the 2012 Americana Music Awards Show.
What Bonnie Raitt has that even the author of this lovely song does not (and most singer songwriters don't have, in my opinion) is an absolutely perfect sense of meter. She doesn't alarm the listener with long drawn out bars that fall out of rhythm or, as one of the amusing writer below wrote "psychotic over-singing". You always feel rhythmically safe with Raitt.
@@joejennings3335 Big Al is the greatest. I first heard him back in the late 1960's when his local CT band, the Wildweeds...were making quite a name for themselves.
Bonnie Bishop (who wrote it and sings it very well ua-cam.com/video/CyMebH8mqUY/v-deo.html ) and Bonnie Raitt, both touching those points we all felt going through this life . That's what counts , Dorothy" , not those pseudo-intelligent or stupid comments........
Give it up for Big Al ! What a Great writer and guitar player
The real deal. No affects. Just true heart and soul singing and playing. The queen of ballads. ❤Bonnie

Some songs and singers just do it right. Bonnie Raitt is one of those types of singers whose songs and singing just capture your heart forever.
The saddest, most beautiful song.

Al Anderson is a legendary songwriter and a great performer as well.

Noone else quite like this lady!
Understated. Bonnie knows how to merge with a song. No psychotic over-singing.

The simple songs are sometimes the closest to the HEART and that's where their beauty comes from.
Not Cause I Wanted To
Bonnie Raitt
Well, I'm callin' you 'cause you deserve to know
You were not the reason that I had to go
Late at night in these hotel rooms
I think of all I've lost and what I've put you through
If I knew the reason I would tell you
Why somehow the feelin' slipped away
I only did what I had to do
Not 'cause I wanted to
I've got a guilty heart and a troubled mind
No matter where I go, they're never far behind
I'd like to think that you've forgiven me
But forgiveness ain't enough to wash my conscience clean
And if I knew the reason I would tell you
Why somehow the feelin' slipped away
I only did what I had to do
Not 'cause I wanted to
I only did what I had to do
Not 'cause I wanted to
She delivers this song perfectly
