Ditto. The best drama and acting. Truly excellent. And thanks to the author. Truly first class - a window into elites - and it's only the tip of the iceberg.

I'm watching it right now & I swear I'm trying so hard not to binge watch it, i'm doing a couple of eps/evening & I am dreading the moment it is going to end. This tv series is THAT good. Well done to all, the crew & writers did a top notch job recreating that era, script is absolutely brilliant & the acting is first class. The brits really know how to cook up a spy thriller, the pacing in ASAF is actually better than that of Tinker Tailor & the plot unravels in a more fluid manner while still captivating you. Enough babbling haha, if you're wondering if you should watch it, DO.

An excellent espionage saga full of dark intrigue and a wilderness of mirrors.
I’m really pleased that it uncovers the “elephant in the room” -that Sir Roger Hollis, DG of Mi5 from1956-65 was the most highly placed and powerful soviet agent of the lot, as definitively proven by Chapman Pincher in his 2009 book “Treachery”.

Brilliantly done in every way! Thanks for your respect for your viewers! In addition to the spy crafts, I was deeply moved by the profound emotions between them!

Probably the most perfect TV drama I have ever watched. This ‘jump around’ structure absolutely works. Why? Because the writing is so spare and clean and well… in a league of its own. It’s set a new standard. That said the homage to Alfredson’s version of Tinker Tailor is clear. Some scenes are actually copied and the lighting is very similar. Worth noting both lead actors drew on recent bereavement of their spouses. It is a drama about loss and mourning. It is about the stifled insanity of the British ruling class and why betrayal was so prevalent.
Watch: An Englishman Abroad, Single Spies, A Question of Attribution, Another Country and Tinker Tailor and you will see what this beautiful drama owes to all of them.
This also works because Ben Macintyre’s source non fiction work is just so good and so meticulously researched.
Compare this to ‘Treason’ also running atm and you see how to write and script and how not to. Less is more

Very annoying the way the interviewer grunts understanding and agreement and makes noises while others are speaking.

if i was the head of MI6 back then i'da ordered a team to go to Beirut, take Philby out, frame the Soviets, and claim he was working with us all along.. that way you get rid of a double agent and save face at the same time.

    Cool tv show " BUT " ! ⚠️ ,
As usual during that Period from the last century (unfortunately) : An abundance of the ugly and Dangerous habit: SMOKING !!! Unfortunately, this is a period Full of Misconceptions about Smoking ! Concepts that were then (scientifically) CORRECTED and REFINED well
We Please Ask the Producers and Directors of dramas " Those interested in that period " , not to have too Many Smoking Scenes in this way ! and to reduce them as Much as possible, or dispense with them !
Because Some people, unfortunately, are Tempted by cinema and drama with Flashy, "attractive" scenes containing Smoking, so they rush to imitate this dangerous thing !!! Smoking ! ,
One of the reasons for its danger is that it Slows down the Flow of blood inside the arteries heading to All different parts of the body ! , (because it increases its viscosity ), and this is what makes smoking has a “Direct” effect on All the body’s systems in one way or another (and not just the heart !)
Of course, you know there are Many other reasons for Smoking Dangerousity that will take a long to explain ....
    Thaaanks a LOT
    and Wish You GOOD ...

This was an excellent series. But found it equally annoying and amusing they had to make up the female lead character ... and then put the most pointed modern commentary about class, gender etc etc into her mouth. It devalued the series, which apart from those lines, was excellently written, acted and shot.

MY SILENT WAR by Kim Philby--"During my youth in the 1930s two paths were presented to me---the rank appeasement of nazis by PMs Stanley Baldwin and Neville Chamberlain or the opposition of USSR. But for the power of the USSR and the Communist idea, the whole world would now be ruled by hitler and hirohito. It is a matter of great pride to me that I was invited at so early an age, to play my infinitesimal part in building up that power. How, where and when I became a member of the Soviet intelligence service is a matter to myself and my comrades. I will only say that when the proposition was made to me, I did not hesitate. One does not look twice at an offer of enrollment in an elite force."

Oh god… please spare us the asininity of these not very bright, not very knowledgeable interviewers, who absolutely understand a tiny fraction of the material they are discussing.
That said: the answer to the Morecambe and Wise scene (I don’t this the interviewer knew who they or Ken Dodd were) is so revealing. Thank god these artists are smart and they can give great answers even when interviewed by second rate types.
