A really fantastic how-to on wiring, Sean. It's so important to keep things neat and labelled for smooth operation and trouble shooting. It's a lot of work, but pays off in the future. The table level track plan looks great! Looking forward to seeing the upper level. You always do a great job!

Coming along nicely Sean, very impressive! And that's a good re-creation of an old-time Keystone air whistle on the 9e! Those early electrics had air whistles, not horns, and the model does a nice job with it!
@@seanstraindepot Oh, yeah, the traditional Lionel type mechanical air whistles are nostalgic fun all right, but I think you misunderstood. When the first electric locomotives like the NYC's S1 and others were developed there were no air horns like the later electrics had (think GG1) so steam whistle technology was used but with compressed air. That's what I meant when I mentioned the Keystone whistle on the 9e, the electronic system does a pretty good imitation of the same.

Hi Sean, watched this video a few times. Appears circuit boards mounted in center under layout. Looks awesome with Banana Jack wires You made. I was looking on Amazon trying to find same 3 way Toggle Switches. I could only find ones with 6 pin that you slide lugged wires onto. Nothing with screws. Can You help? Thanks, Joe
For floor layouts, with no way to screw the track down, go with MTH Realtrax or MTH/Lionel Tubular track. The Standard Gauge stuff is so big and heavy the tubular tends to keep coming apart though, unless you find a way to tie them together, like zip ties or something.
I normally don't have the attention span to watch a video of this length, but you made it so informative and interesting that it flew by quickly. Thanks for the effort that you put into make this video. It is much appreciated. The tinplate Irvington factory building would look nice on this layout. Any plans on getting one of those?
HAHA, yeah everyone wants quick 5-minute videos anymore, but my whole channel has always been about the details because that is what I always wanted when I go on UA-cam to get information on how to do something. I actually have a lot of tinplate buildings you will see coming up, and the Irvington Factory is one of them!
They just roll off from each end since they are all coupled together. But with a stepstool, I can easily walk right up on the layout since its only 32 inches high now.
Great Video and set up Sean! I too had considered soldering feeder wires. However, messy difficult, snd some broke. Kirk had also suggested the method of inserting lugs underneath track. However, I did not remove plastic as you did, and never obtained s good crimp, without destroying lug. Maybe in a future video you could share the crimping tool and process? I bought my Tie Tools from PE Design on Ebay, if anyone is searching? Thanks, Joe
I think those plastic insulators are what prevents the good crimp. Thats one reason I take them off. I pinch the spade end of the connector in a pliers to hold it and then take another pliers and twist off the insulators (don't try cutting them they are too strong). Then I hold the wire in the connector and crimp using a wire cutter pliers that has sort of a dull set of jaws. I crimp the top and bottom where the wire comes through and then middle. It ends up super tight!
Great where did you get the switches? My upper level is variable through the TIU so I can use them on the lower level So I can run my conventional engines there as well

The air whistle was on the little 384E Steamer, but I love the sound of it. Sometimes I like it better than the modern electronic whistles!

We zip tied our KMT std72 tubular track together using the nail holes to keep it from coming apart on the floor. Seems to be working!

Thank you for showing how USA works. I was going to buy track from them, however I currently have a floor layout, which would have been a big mistake.

So with the toggle I would only be able to switch between command/ variable and full conventional- transformer. Is that correct?
Yup, for each loop I can run either from Output of TIU/TMCC Base or from Transformer Handles.
