The amount of fans of DankPods it's just incredible, the widest and unthinkable range of people it's in there and I'm just happy to see such phenomenom
Literally the type of video I was looking for. I've been researching into pocketable e-readers lately and narrowed it down to either the entry level inkpalm 5 you mentioned or the hisense touch (though probably the lite version). What made you jump from the inkpalm 5 to the hisense touch and what's the battery life like on it (I've read the battery life on the inkpalm 5 isn't that great).
I have the inkpalm 5. I like it, but would rather have the hisense touch if I'm being honest, but the Hisense is pricy! Inkpalm's battery life is...okay. I get several days out of it with light use. A useful feature is that it turns off wifi everytime you lock which helps save battery in standby. Another con for me was that it came with no english out of the box, so I had to sideload an app to translate everything into English for me. Not the end of the world though - kind of a set it and forget it thing. Honestly, my biggest gripe with it is that it's too wide! lol I wish it was more narrow to make holding it more comfortable.
I bought my A9 after I watched your last desktop setup video. Have using it for a week now, wow, should I say it's the most valuable phone I got. I finally quit the last bit of douyin or tiktok, no more youtube videos on phone, no more late night phone scrolling, got plenty more time to study, work, sport, and meditation. Dumb phone is such a brilliant idea for phone addicted people like me, not to say I can finally learn to read some books... Damn bro, your channel is a true treasure on the internet...😂
In my country, Amazon started to sell kindles below the cost os production, making every other company stop selling e-readers due to the financial loss they were getting, so our only accessible option of e-reader is kindle and that's pretty sad. Hope someday I'll get the oportunity to import one that I can write in
I know this is a late reply, but if you wanted to, the open book project is a DIY e reader that you can assemble using off the shelf parts :) I know soldering is not for eveyone though and components vary wildly in price across the world, but thought it was a cool option you might not have heard of!
Personally I'm a fan of the Onyx Boox Nova line of devices. 7.8inch(19.8cm) screen is the perfect "book size" for me. They also come with a proper stylus, so you can use it as a notepad. They come with Google Play support as well so you can install basically any ebook or news app(or game) you want. They aren't cheap since they are basically Android Tablets with expensive eInk screens, but they are so worth it. The only thing that really bothers me is that they still only come with 32GB of storage. At least put 64GB in there, the cost difference these days is minimal. PS: They now have versions with some color support. The colors aren't very vibrant, and you do sacrifice the black and white performance(turning on the two-tone side lighting helps negate this though), but it is cool to have.
hm, i feel like the nova line is a bit out of place in the model line. i think the leaf 2 is a better product at the same price point which doesn’t make sense, the leaf has a way sharper, clearer screen and page turn button buttons, sd card slot. only advantages of nova line is the ever so slightly larger size, better performance (which for reading is irrelevant), and the color option which for most people isn’t worth it
@@supreme3647 For me that near inch difference in screen size is a big difference, and the lack of stylus support is a turn off too. It is dumb that the Nova still doesn't have a MicroSD slot or larger storage options though. Also, while the Color version isn't as good at mimicking BW paper as a BW model, they have the Nova Air2 which is BW and has the same DPI, and hence sharpness, as the Leaf2.
@@japzone screen on the nova 2 just doesn’t look as good as the leaf 2 though for some reason, my friend has the nova 2 and side my side it’s pretty clear, try and find a video online and you’ll understand, i agree with the stylus thing but then again stylus is nicer on a bigger screen (10.3 inch +) imo so it isn’t a massive deal breaker, i do agree that the extra screen is nice, wish the leaf 2 was 7.8
@@supreme3647the "slightly" larger screen is big enough to where it makes manga significantly more readable (which is basically the only reason I went with a nova air). If I was doing book reading only then the leaf is a no brainier

James, your video was an eye-opener for me! I've been searching for a good e-ink device to enhance my productivity and reading habits. Your insights into various pocket-sized e-readers were incredibly informative. I'm intrigued by the Hisense A5 and A9 models, especially since I'm not a fan of Amazon's Kindle ecosystem. Your channel is a goldmine of tech advice, and I appreciate your commitment to providing thorough and unbiased reviews. Keep up the great work, and I'm looking forward to your future content!
Bought a hisense touch two days ago, glad to know I made the right choice. Replaced my smartphone with a 903kc and wanted something to replace my mobile entertainment. Thank you for all the tech inspiration
Did you have a problem with audio that sounded super compressed? I've tried playing it off spotify and music i've downloaded and it sounds like I'm running it through a bitcrusher
I've had a nook simple touch since it was launched. What 12 years ago now? Something like that. It's battery has been replaced and it's screen is a bit worse than it was when it was new. But it's served me super well and I love it. It's not hardly a top of the line device not by any stretch. But it was easy to root. Overclocking it and installing a few custom apps really has made it continue to be fast enough and equipped well enough to serve it's purpose. I keep a Mobiscribe at my office. It serves as my work ereader and a note taking device. But if I'm taking a trip someplace and I want an ereader a plane or bus or train trip? The Nook is coming along. If I'm going to the beach? It's again the nook. I've gotten my money out of it and if it was lost, or stolen, or rendered nonfunctional at this stage of things I'd be ok. So yeah I can safely say I have no desire to use an Amazon device and really never have.
I bought an e-note taking device some years ago, and that was gamechanger for me. I want to mark thinhs when reading a book, and the process for it on normal touch devices (long press word, be happy when you actually got the correct one, dragging through the text untill the correct end, press the "mark" button, etc) is just frustrating. With the device I can just take the pen, and mark and scribble however I want in a fraction of the time!
i’ve been looking for different e-ink devices all over the internet!!!! very happy to run into your channel, loving the content. i’m from brazil and kindle still the most popular device when it comes to e-inks & e-readers… really hoping to see this device in the markets around here soon. xx
My only grudge with these E-ink smartphones is that they’re region locked to Asia. Living in South America just makes them so hard and expensive to acquire, and even if I could import one the radio bands are not compatible with my region’s bands… :/
just a question out of curiosity, i do believe you highlight texts and quotes from a book using that ebook. where do u transfer those after? do you write it on a ntbk or do you use an app? :0
does anyone have a recommendation of one with a microsd slot? this hisense sounds great but no microsd kinda kills it for me, especially if i can put flacs/manga on it too. i had a kindle i gave to my mom so i’m in the market for a new (smallish) e reader.
Not very journal-like, but I recommend the app "everyday". You can create personalized goals, select the days you want to accomplish them on, and get an overview of your success rate.
Would be awesome if you could do a set up video on how to read manga on it. I've been trying to find the perfect device to read webtoons/manhwa on. I use tachiyomi everyday for hours and I found a tablet size that would be perfect. Something like a 8.9 inch to mimick the page size of a manga. Needs to have good colors and smooth scrolling. Its I haven't found anything that has those specks.. closest thing is the Lenovo LEGION Y700 tablet but its not available in the USA yet. I could just cover a glossy screen with a matte screen protector so that's not much of an issue.
Just bought myself a Kobo Libra 2 the other day and now this video is making me wonder if I fumbled hard. Do you actually use your compact e-ink devices for things other than reading/listening to books? Like does it have a precise enough touchscreen to take handwritten notes with a stylus or something? Or is that a job left to bigger devices like the boox/remarkable tablets?
Personally, I find anything smaller than 10-11 inches too small to comfortably take notes on. I don’t use my e reader devices for anything other than reading. I don’t think you fumbled at all - I much prefer the size of my 6” e readers.
Got one of back in 2022 too, but I kinda wish I got the a5 for the cellular data. Carrying around my phone and my e-reader at the same time was kinda clunky and I never trained my instant gratification, so when I got bored, I kept grabbing my phone instead of my e-reader lol. I would like to just carry the e-reader and not take my phone places, but I do need my phone for emergencies and if my family calls. How do you go about this? Do you carry both?
I’m thinking of ordering a Hisense touch, was actually going for the ink palm 5, but the glossy screen is a dealbreaker. Thank you so much for this awesome videoooo 😊
I just use the onyx poke 3 its super small and fits in almost any pocket. I wear cargo trousers all the time so I just chuck it in one of the side pockets and just carry it with me when i leave the house so I can read on the bus and during my lunch break at work
If I could have one of these with color like the new kobos, and still run all the apps I need for work, banking, gps and everything else I need my smartphone for, it would be perfect. Basically I just don't want to have to carry around my phone and my ereader separately, which is what I do now. I used to read books on my iphone and that shit sucked, which is why I got a kobo.
Hey man recently stumbled upon your channel and you seem to make some great content but your latest video is like 4 moths old now, are you planing to upload more in the future or is the youtube done for you?
this is a weird question but does anyone know how are called the pants that James use? they seem so comfortable...i need to use something comfy this winter
hi James , I was wondering ....who's that men that sometimes I saw appearing on your e-book' screen? I was interest in reading some books about him , his philosophy etc... Sorry I'm italian and I'm still not fluent in english and thank you for making this video, your point of view really inspired me. I also agree on spending money on things that I would always use, expecially on devices that would help me be productive and are not a negative impact for me. Technology is really cool but I don't like how it's most used for, for example social media or other paltforms , I feel like in a black hole. Many italian youtubers make videos depending on what people are searching for, and youtube is full of contents to actract people's attention, like magnets. But your contents are different there is: slef improvement, self care, empathy, a really strong feeling of inspiration (sorry if I can't express myself better), hard work in order to achieve your dreams..... I'm following you since 2020, I'm in my 4th almost 5th year of high school now, and in these 2 years your videos always helped me find clarity again. Thank you so much
Wow, just yesterday I was searching your channel to see if you have a video about e-readers couse you got me interested in them, and now you upload one. Nice. Could you please write the names of the devices you are talking about in the video? I was trying to decipher the model names but I just can't uderstand what you are saying.
I've had good experience with my kobo forma, which is a preferable form factor for me. If you like the smaller size I'd go with one of the smartphone sized ones. Also just make sure whatever file type you read is supported by the device
Bro my eyes are shit and I think it’s 100% the digital smartphone and computer screens. For the last couple of months I’ve been in the market for the right solution so thanks for being an E-ink ambassador 😂
And I am going to do the same challenge you did studying 12 hours a day. But I am in school so I cannot study for 12 hours cause then I will only have 4 hours to everything else. So I am going to study for 6 hours a day excluding school. I am going to comment “Done” in your pomodoro study with me video as soon as I finish the video. So every two days Love your videos (and your goals)😊
Can't replace phone fully with eink phones, so decided to buy one without sim support. But I'm in dilemma between inkpalm 5 and hisense touch. I don't need the music support but the inkpalm screen is too small considering I have real bad eyesight. I already have boox 7.8 one, that's my main device, so also don't wanna spend a fortune, but need one small device to read on when I'm standing idle (small hands so 7.8 is too big for me when standing). Need one with warm light as blue light hurts even on eink, so hisense a5 out of list. Inkpalm plus has bigger screen but almost similar price like touch, but less functions than touch so another bummer for the price 😢
I bought it the exact same moment i saw it in your live! Been using it not that much though since i’ve been basically always home since then so just been into paper books and kindle, but it’s a must have of the days i go to the university! Not difficult to setup at all and for what it is and what it is supposed to be, works great. Maybe a little bit overpriced, but fine

I wear cargo trousers all the time so I just chuck it in one of the side pockets and just carry it with me when i leave the house so I can read on the bus and during my lunch break at work
Where do you get your shirts from? (Old) tech shirts are amazing
Holy shit. I haven’t even gotten very far in the video, but that is STRONG HAIR!
Please... can u start streaming again??😟😟😟 Well this vedio is very helpful thank you so much 💜💜💜💜😍
If I could have one of these with color like the new kobos, and still run all the apps I need for work, banking, gps and everything else I need my smartphone for, it would be perfect. Basically I just don't want to have to carry around my phone and my ereader separately, which is what I do now. I used to read books on my iphone and that shit sucked, which is why I got a kobo.
I just discovered your channel after buying a kindle, and yeah🙂
Hey man recently stumbled upon your channel and you seem to make some great content but your latest video is like 4 moths old now, are you planing to upload more in the future or is the youtube done for you?
This was interesting. I mostly read on my phone but I'm looking forward to learning more about readers which have a bigger screen than my phone
Do you have a AMP/DAC for your pc? If so, can you make a video of your audio setup?
wanted a hisense touch for a while but getting it in central europe seems impossible
this is a weird question but does anyone know how are called the pants that James use? they seem so comfortable...i need to use something comfy this winter
hi James , I was wondering ....who's that men that sometimes I saw appearing on your e-book' screen? Thank you so much
I think you are talking about Susumu Nakoshi from Homunculus Manga... read it at your discretion, I found it disturbing and couldn't go over volume 6.
being a consoomer does not mean being productive
Any recommendations for Websites where you can download books (epubs) for free without having a VPN?
Man, this vieo made me jump into the rabbit hole of small e-ink devices. Ened up ordering a Hisene Touch as well and I can't wait to receive it!
How’s it going
i know this video is like mad old but i just got one of these devices and im wondering where you get books? like whats your go to storefront?
got a kindle paperwhite and a kobo elipsa. they work fine but your devices look interesting, definately more pocketable.
Wow, just yesterday I was searching your channel to see if you have a video about e-readers couse you got me interested in them, and now you upload one. Nice. Could you please write the names of the devices you are talking about in the video? I was trying to decipher the model names but I just can't uderstand what you are saying.
He uses the Hisense Touch model. But there’s also Hisense 5 and Hisense 9 which are e ink. Those are phones but the Touch is not.
Do you find the Display big enough to read Manga with Tachiyomi? Or do you need to scroll/zoom alot to read certain pages?
it's doable, not ideal-when the panels span two pages it's sort of a lot of zooming but otherwise it works in a pinch
why don't u just use kindle?
What about form factor? Should people get a larger screen or just one like on the phones? What is better in your opinion?

So every two days
Love your videos (and your goals)😊
I did the same

Thanks,, you speak in a very good way , I don't know how can you be afraid of presentation lol
Great to hear this, previously was thinking of getting an ereader fro goodereader, but thank God that I didn't.

bloody hell, dank is appearing everywhere these days
Indeed your title is apt. You have convinced me to get my own pocketable ereader/anki device
Where do you guys get your books? Buying from kindle app is super expensive. I'm a e-reader scrub so I have no idea where else to even look.
z-library free
Kindles - like all closed system devices - suck ass. Thank you for letting me shout at you via the internet, have a wonderful day!
Why do they suck? I truly don't know. Just trying to get info on them.
Hey James, got myself a Hisense touch. How the heck do you transfer pdf files into it?
Where did you buy?
@@jesusisthetruth2061 Aliexpress sells them if you're in the US

I can't find anything you suggest in india 😅
Maybe a little bit overpriced, but fine
anybody know what mic James is using?
Tell me how to live alone with love in your life i want to learn 😔
