    Hello
    Can you please tell meif some one has tried Redline 75W90NS oil for same car???

    • @jayfoghino5392
      @jayfoghino5392 2 роки тому

      I would only recommend OEM trans fluid in any car after having syncro issues in a Subaru 3 months after using redline. I swapped it for OEM fluid and most of the grinding went away but the damage was all ready done. I believe there is a bit of science involved with the manufacturers having the right mixture and slickness to work with their syncros.

    Great video encouraging people to DYI. Oil is the biggest scam for dealers. Ridiculous margins. 2 things though: 1 I would always put tyres or other things underneath the car if the lift fails and 2 I would always open the fil bolt first before draining

    I found the video outstanding. I have a 2006 and I'm planning to have the dealership change my transmission fluid. The cost is high.
    I also use a QuickJack. Love it. I mainly use it to wax the car and clean the wheels. I have a 5000 pound model. It will lift all my cars. I like how you can stand it up out of the way.
    Keep up the great videos and the next time I'm in Fountain Hills, I'll stop by.

    Tackled this job on my '09 Cayman today. Like yours, mine was coming out when I opened the fill plug. (Maybe my garage floor is slightly tilted? I have Quick Jacks, too) I also don't think I was able to put in as much as came out. However, the car seems happy. Thanks for a great instructional video!

      Love hearing all the DIY success stories. If your fluid hit the fill plug line and came out, it's full. Car will tell you if it's not happy!

    Did you find a way to resolve the "clickyness". Mine has a similar feel unless it is really well warmed up.

    Hey D
    Great video, I do have a question for you though
    I just sold my 911 991.1 manual shift, and I must say the gear shifting was smooth as butter, got myself a 2007 Boxster 2.7 with 35,000 miles on it, beautiful car,
    Did All fluid change including tranny fluid.
    When I shift through the gears it seems to “klick” into the next gear rather then smooth shift, do you have the same feeling on yours?
    Just wondering if it’s normal,
    Thanks again
    Doron
    Toronto, Canada

    • @DWraysGarage
      @DWraysGarage  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Doron! Thanks for the note. With the numeric, the shifter became more 'clicky'. If you feel it your hands, play with the box. If you feel it in the tranny, possible something going on. One man's clicky is another man's normal. At that age and miles, you're probably good - just row the gears and observe for change. Drive safe!

      This tool puts the vast majority of maintenance and bolt-on upgrade work within reach of the home wrencher. It's rewarding and reassuring to do your own work - for some. Just have to know when to consult the professionals! Enjoy - it's a great unit.

    Hi Great video! Just got myself a 2005 2.7 Boxster 987 manual transmission , 42.000 miles on the clock and have full service history. It all looks in great shape. Do I get transmission fluid change at 60.000 miles or would now be better? ( also is the clutch called a 'wet clutch' in this model Boxster). I'm new to this game as you might tell.
    And greetings from London UK :)

    • @DWraysGarage
      @DWraysGarage  3 роки тому +1

      Congrats on the 987 acquisition! I don't think you'd have to do the change if the guidelines say to do it at 60 and you're satisfied that the log shows solid maintenance practices. That said, if it were mine, I'd just do it to set a baseline and starting point for my ownership. Possibly overkill. The manuals are dry clutch plates, PDKs are wet clutch systems. The fluid in the transaxle is for the gears and LSD in mine. More than anything, enjoy the drive! D

      Thanks for watching and glad it helped you get some bearings on the project. I've, knock on wood, yet to do the water pump but bumping up on mileage that means it's pretty much due. The tool is from Milwaukee. I just love them. You can buy them most anywhere and deals come up from time to time. I just bought a 2005 Boxster, a garage queen with 30,000 miles. Thanks for the video, I’m changing the fluids in the car , for piece of mind. I also just bought a 5000XL Quick Jack. Only used it once , it lifts ok, but going down one side goes down faster than the other. Worries me , I have bleed the lines several times. Any ideas?

    • @DWraysGarage
      @DWraysGarage  2 роки тому

      Congrats on the acquisition - both car and lift-wise! Have you put air in the drop cylinders? They're supposed to be 50psi and basically need to be filled every time. Otherwise I understand QJ to be pretty on their game.

    • @DWraysGarage
      @DWraysGarage  4 роки тому

      This was pretty easy overall. Much like an oil change. Complicated a little because of having to remove the bracing and my jack was in the way. I think 60k may be the recommendation for normal driving. I went at 45k as I felt some resistance 1-2 and wanted to see if this would smooth it out. Happy with results.

    Don't waste your money on the book on "101 projects for Boxster/Cayman". Reading that book is like deciphering Greeks. UA-cam videos like this one is much more helpful in understanding how to do it.

    boxster 986 2.5 (G86 transmission): the oil level must be 11 mm below the filling opening level. (zupimages.net/up/20/24/4kam.png).

    • @DWraysGarage
      @DWraysGarage  4 роки тому

      Have fun measuring for that one! That is the spec but pretty tough to nail. I've seen a video or two of trans fluid flowing out of fill side on both 986 and 987 variants. Thanks for sharing with the community.

      @Legaumaisdsts 4 роки тому +3

      @@DWraysGarage You pass an Allen wrench in the hole and see as on an engine oil dipstick.

    • @Legaumaisdsts
      @Legaumaisdsts 4 роки тому +1

      More simply, I only use a simple transparent hose ~ 2 m; at one of its ends, I placed a small piece of copper pipe whose end is bent at ~ 60 ° (which I place in the filling hole), at the other end I have a funnel. It is enough that the funnel is slightly higher than the level of the filling hole and when you empty the oil in the funnel, by simple gravity it enters the gearbox.

  • @graham6229
    @graham6229 4 роки тому

    Glad you're not touching my 986 with any sort of power wrench. Do it by hand and torque up after ( with new bolts ) to factory spec. You risk really damaging things with power wrenches.

    • @DWraysGarage
      @DWraysGarage  4 роки тому +4

      It's rude to touch other people's stuff without permission. I was raised correctly. You clearly have no grasp on what these power ratchets can and cannot do. Can agree to disagree here.

      The situation is getting a lot of attention and general awareness education and mitigation steps are being used. We want masks in the hands of health care providers. The rest of us need a dose of honesty while we let the system treat the legitimately sick and not just those who broke their backs and banks over-shopping for toilet paper and water.
