  • quick vid testing my recently acquired Peavey T.B. Raxx tube bass preamp. all basses recorded through it + ran through a Peavey DEP 3.2S digital delay sampling processor for a bit of a widening effect. gotta love rack effect units from the 80-90's :D

Woow The first streamer sounds amazing especially for a fretless bass, but nothing beats a thumb in my opinion

yeah, the thumb has such a distinct sound, tons of personality

There’s nothing like the sound of a thumb. Your slapping looks so effortless. What strings do you use and what are your onboard tone controls set to? Thanks for the great videos and music!

thanks for the kind words, dude! the strings are Warwick Red Label nickel .040"s on all 3 basses and the onboard controls were mostly the same on all three as well - the bass slightly boosted and the treble very slightly cut. and then some very slight EQing on the Peavey T.B. Raxx preamp going into the audio interface.

I'm looking into this preamp but can't find any info on them. How easy do they break up? Can they stay clean for a nice full sound? Thanks.

yeah, you can get a nice clean and full sound out of it. at my basses' output level the preamp tends to start breaking up at 7-8 on the gain knob, from there onwards you can go from a nice saturated signal to fullblown tubey overdrive :) also, I love the versatile EQ section!

@@absurdcus Cool thanks for repyling! A friend bought the Markbass Distorsore and thought I'd try it out but that thing was either on or off, no in between bite. The T.B Raxx sells for cheap but information is scarse.

Cool! Do these basses have the same electronics/Did you use the same settings? Thumb sounds best to me - cool to hear slapping on the fretless though.

they don't have the same electronics but I did use similar settings, a slight bass boost and a slight treble cut. the Thumb NT has MEC soapbar pickups and a MEC 3 band preamp, the fretless Streamer also has MEC soapbar pickups but just a MEC 2 band preamp and the fretted Streamer ('98) has Basslines pickups and a Basslines 2 band preamp :)

Did you hurt your finger playing bass? Great video btw

thanks! no, actually I accidentally cut my finger with a screwdriver while assembling the rack unit for the Peavey preamp the other day :)
