When you have an investment of billions of dollars, for just one carrier, and that does not include all the aircraft, you must protect it. Great to see the innovation and commitment of the Navy.
I agree with Mr. Powell. The navy would not spend the money on these massive war machines if they were not able to successfully able to defend them and the naval personnel that man's them. God Bless the United States and our Armed Forces.
I literally thought this was real for a minute until i noticed that shading was off for clouds showing "depth" and the smoke from destroyed aircraft.....i sure hope you are either independently building PC wartime simulation games or are working with members of game manufacturers in the likes of DCS and Vtol, outstanding job!!!
Imagine if you took out all existing coms to a major fleet/vessels & then convinced the country/commanders with high-tech grafix that they experienced catastrophic loss of assets in battle with great video of their best assets destroyed & helpless long enough to promt a successful surrender before they realize they had not realized they hadn't lost most their fleet & were watching a damn good movie... what's that old saying warriors win battles, logistics win wars ! What would a commander do that believes he has nothing left to command ?

yeah, if you could have them up 24/7 with with enough power and enough cooling, it'll be amazing. With enough power you could take down almost anything. Never need any kinetic or chemical weapons (as in explosive), except for very far off targets like long range attack planes, as lasers wont be effective on very long range due to crap like dust in the air bringing down the power. Railguns would also be great, but not guided at long range, though, I've always wondered if, say, you launch a projectile via a railgun and then the last few kilometers, have a small rocket or electrically moved fins to guide it for fine movement.
we never had that many cwis on the nimitz , now and days they have nato sea sparrow missile system ... CWIS is ship based and CRAM is land based.. EXCELLENT SIMULATOR THOUGH
I wonder how many incoming missiles would it take to overwhelm these phalanx systems. The simulation basically showed concentrated fire on one missle at a time.
US Aircraft carriers are extremely tough and would require massive missiles to actually hit them. In a real battle it would take constant hits from artillery that is by the way far more effective than a missile to take down those carriers. Here is the thing that most people do not realize is that carriers in a war would be part of a group and if a major world war was to break out the US would have a thousand of them active.

Iran, Turkey, China are building very cost effective drones. Turkey is converting its LHD into drone carries. A capable air defence system like S400 in mediterreneam sea, can hinder all capabilities of air craft carries. Many countries are now building sophisticated longe range air defence systems. All major players now adays have them. Especially after the success of drones have been seen . I believe this is one of the reasons why US is building pressure on Turkey. F35s are mobile defense against any air attacks. They can easily track, and quarterback to loaded f18s target information on any type of known weapon system to shoot it down. Best of luck
This is a best case scenario for the enemy with traditional means. In close, stationary, no aircraft or escort fleet. You could I guess overwhelm it. But it would still take a lot of kit to kill it.

The defensive firepower on an aircraft carrier is awesome but how long can this coverage be sustained in the event of a concentrated multi-pronged attack? And what are the defenses against underwater threats..mines, torpedoes etc?
US battleships are part of groups. So that means the US right now can form about 11 such battle groups with each group able to put over 100 aircraft in the air. Think of how large those ships are now think of how much ammunition they can carry and unleash. Each Carrier group will have its own battle squadron that on its own would be impossible to take down never mind a carrier being present. In WW3 the US will have about 1000 carriers active.

This is actually a good way to waste the enemies C-RAM bullets so that the jet fighters have a better chance at attacking
C-RAMS (Counter rocket, artillery, and mortar) aren't used to take down jets, they would use SM type missiles.

The defensive firepower on an aircraft carrier is awesome but how long can this coverage be sustained in the event of a concentrated multi-pronged attack? And what are the defenses against underwater threats..mines, torpedoes etc?
US battleships are part of groups. So that means the US right now can form about 11 such battle groups with each group able to put over 100 aircraft in the air.
Think of how large those ships are now think of how much ammunition they can carry and unleash.
Each Carrier group will have its own battle squadron that on its own would be impossible to take down never mind a carrier being present.
In WW3 the US will have about 1000 carriers active.
