+Elias Stark I read it from cover to cover and what I recommend people is to read the chapter that interest them. So far, two people have reported back and are interested in at least cutting down. Just like any activism, you never know who you will get through.
+Elias Stark no, I've seen their fridge too and there was no meat just dairy. Dr. Greger is amazing. I guess you have not read his book or heard his story. My super carnivorous brother went Vegan after hearing Dr. Greger talk. I didn't get through him but Dr. Greger did. That's why I have faith in his knowledge and activism.
Parataxic Distortion : Search his website nutritionfacts.org on your topic of interest, or buy and read his book How Not to Die. You can also get the book from the library; request it there if it's not in or they don't have it listed at all. All sources are cited with each video, and there are 133 pages of citations in the book. Do you really expect him to spout off all his sources in a live Q&A?
You and Gary Null and a few others are my greatest heroes!! Thank you SO MUCH for all that you share! And thanks to all your volunteers! What a valuable health education resource you have become to the world.
I do not understand how anyone can call him a quack: he literally lays out the results of nutritional studies and says "hey, here's the evidence, make of it what you will". He doesn't try to push anyone into any fad diet, he simply says eat your fruits and veggies and stop eating total crap and you'll be good. The comments about his appearance are just as eyeroll-inducing. He's thin because he eats an extremely healthy diet and does low impact exercise. If you want to be thicker, eat more. If you want to bulk, do it. Eating a plant based diet will make it even easier to this. There are plenty of vegan athletes and body builders, just google it.
Meg Kaye hey Meg, I totally agree with you. Dr Greger does more for honest nutrition than most other docs. Total respect to him. I'm benefitted tremendously.
Frank squared is one of the people who really helped me out initially eating healthy! I was vegetarian but went vegan and cleaned up my act a bit. Glad to see he's still out there doing it.
Dr Greger. Thank you for taking the time to read through all the nutrition data (so we don't have to) and for sharing it for free. I admire your dedication to this work. THANK YOU, THANK YOU! You look great! I think you are handsome and if you weren't married I would ask you out ; )
Currently taking a nutrition class and today my teacher told my class that vegans/vegetarians should highly consider including meat in their diet because meat has all 9 essential amino acids, unlike plants which you have to mix and match....I just wanted to get up out of my seat and scream ARE YOU F-ING KIDDING ME!!!!!
It's disappointing, yet it's the LACK of what we've been taught in medical school. We had one nutrition course during our entire education. There is no foundation on healthy eating and benefits from doing so. The future of medicine will evolve, but no soon enough in my opinion. We have to see things in a more simplified manner. How to use food to our benefit and get patients off loads of medication. Our books still encourage and recommend Mediterranean diets with 40% sugars, 30% fats and 30% protein in a daily "healthy" diet. The obvious problem is portion control, lack of self-control, add in emotional eating, and poor time management and it's caused this epidemic we are dealing with now. My father-in-law is in hospital going through chemo and his doctors told him he needs to eat more meat because he's anemic. I cringed when I heard that. I plan to practice plant-based medicine and I hope I don't run off my patients. I want to create a welcoming and non-judgmental environment and encourage patients to be more open-minded. Slowly, but surely people will start to understand and take better care of themselves and planet. 😀 Plant Food > medications/surgeries
Thanks again Dr. Gregor for your excellent work. And, You get younger looking every time I see you! I have your great book and use it constantly, for reference, recipes, facts checking!
+valnaples You look fabulous, I must say! I get to see him in California at the end of September. He's going to be at a conference I'm attending. You know, I'm going to stalk him until I get a picture with him!:)
YASSYASSYASS! Hope you get to meet him...he spoke here in Naples in December 2012 at a health immersion...they let me in to hear him speak...LOL...I saw him setting up his videos at the back of the room before he spoke and he let me give him a BIG hug! Wish I'd gotten a photo but no worries....he IS A LOVELY nice man!
+valnaples If only I'd be so lucky! I'll let you know of the universe makes this work for me! Lol. I hope he doesn't read these. He might hire a security team to stand guard!
Honestly, you and Dr. Stenholtz have made me so darn interested in medical veganism. Looking forward to getting deeper into the topic of human diet during my studies
Dang, I was in class and not able to get to the live stream. It's so funny that my main question was going to be about intermittent fasting. I'm very excited for that series!
Thanks for the great video. Could you please make a video on how you pressure cook dry beans? I had never heard of that and not having to soak would be a life changer!!! I saw a couple other videos on UA-cam but they use oil or they didn't explain very well. Thanks Dr. Gregger, your the man!!!
There's actually no secret: you just cook them without soaking, that's all. It takes a bit longer (10-20 minutes more than soaked beans) but everything else is the same, no oil or tricks of any sorts, just water.
I have an instant pot and all the beans are different, but I add water about 1/2 inch to an inch above the beans and press the manual button and set it on 30-40 minutes depending on what the guide says. Black beans can cook in 30, for example, but garbanzo beans take around 40. Then when the beep goes off I let it sit in the pot for about 10 minutes so they don't stick and then I release the steam and take them out!
+Twistedhippy Jill Nussinow is the 'veggie queen' she has the pressure cooker down pat and shows you how to cook beans in approx 10 minutes on UA-cam. Hope that helps!:)
I cannot tell you how HAPPY I am that you, Dr G, while giving an answer to a question said "a whole nother" instead of "a whole other" This is something that my husband and I bicker about and even though I know it is not proper English I say it. And I just made it known to him that YOU said it so now and forever more it is correct and I will continue to say "nother" lol So thank you for all that you do up to and including using "improper" English to fuel our brains with the knowledge we need to take care of our bodies properly. Thanks for the laughs as well.
Oh Doctor! I just love you :) Your book "How Not To Die" is so packed with information I've read it twice, and am sharing bits of its wisdom to friends. BUT BUT BUT, how can you say that "iodized salt" (aka Morton's) is equivalent to Himalayan or other less-processed sources? Morton's is bleached and has additives to make it "flow" and, frankly, tastes of chemicals to my palate. While I rarely add salt to my foods, when I do, it is NEVER commercial junk. Please reconsider your stance on this. xoxo
Please talk about ahi flower or root, I'm not sure the exact spelling but another don't talked about how it had more omega 3 then hemp and the conversion was better because something else in this that wasn't in hemp.
the thing is when you eat 50-100g of flax a day (which you should because its also cheap& good for fiber, calcium and b vitamins) THAN you get so much AHA even with a convertion rate of 5% you get mire than enough DHA/EPS
So many people were left confused after watching the recent 5-video series about Vitamin D. Im surprised that no one asked about Vitamin D in the Q&A... It was clear that D3 is superior to D2, but, In a nutshell, how much Vitamin D3 do we need daily? Is 2000IU daily enough?
2000 IU of vitamin D3 a day is actually Greger's recommendation from his latest book. You can get vegan D3 by Doctor's Best (though make sure the packaging says it's vegan).
Great video thanks. I have a family member who has a very rare disease, mal de debarquement syndrome. Very little is known about this disease as it hasn't been studied much. In fact, of the various 20+ Drs she's visited, only 1 briefly knew what it was. Anyways, I am curious if you think a change to a plant based diet might help alleviate this disease and/or it's symptoms? I've been trying to convince her to do so, but she's a research based person (councillor) so she keeps asking me this info that I don't know. Appreciate your thoughts.
I have questions regarding two nutrients: Manganese: It seems like everything healthy has manganese in it. Add it all up pretty soon you are getting more than the maximum recommended of 11.5 mg especially if you drink tea as well. People say you don't need to worry if you get it from food rather than a supplement, but I'm unsure why. It seems to me that manganese is manganese. Choline: The FDA suggest men get 550 mg of choline. I can do that, but I need to eat a lot of cruciferous vegetables. It seems most people do not eat that much cruciferous vegetables. I eat a lot and still at the end of the day I need to eat some additional brussels sprout. It seems that most people do not eat that much. I did ask Jack Norris who seemed to think that the 550 mg goal was excessive and that 300 mg should be sufficient.
I love geeks...you're my fave...learned so much from this channel. Thank you for taking the time to share all of this with us. PS. where do the proceeds go for your book sales? I forgot. (have one in my amazon shopping cart as we speak..) thanks
I really need you to tell me how to get collagen. Many doctor's say collagen is ONLY available from animal sources. I want collagen for my skin and hair! Help me! I need a lot of collagen and fast.
RE: Fasting- Dr. Bernard Jensen D.C., N.D. - "The science and Practice of Iridology" and "Mucusless Diet Healing System" and "Rational Fasting'by Arnold Erhet .Old school naturopaths tried to tell us, but Dr. Greger has the AMA credentials to make it credible. Always listen him.I am grateful for his input.
hope I can make the next live steam! Any dietary recommendations for people with lifelong eczema? I'm 80% whole food and 20% more processed vegan food. It has gotten better since I started eating a more whole food diet but cant seem to get rid of it all!
Hi Jill! Come back September 22! :) You can also add your comment/ question to a video on NutritionFacts website and a health moderator might be able to help answer it!
Doctor, I am a big fan, but I have to tell you this Q&A is hard to understand. I had to use the closed caption feature in an attempt to try to understand some of this vid. For instance the segment on B12. You talked about methyl something. With the CC engaged It came out methylObama. I still don't know what you said.
Dr. Greger doesn't answer UA-cam comments, so I hope you won't mind my intrusion. There are several forms of b12 , the most common are cyanocobalamin and methylcobalamin. Paul HS asks dr. Greger which one he recommends, and dr. Greger says he recommends cyanocobalamin because researches on b12 have usually been conducted using cyanocobalamin, so there's very little data regarding methylcobalamin. Furthermore methylcobalamin is less stable than cyanocobalamin, so you could buy a methylcobalamin B12 supplement which may be ineffective regardless of the expiry date. He recommends 2500 micrograms of cyanocobalamin b12 once a week (our body can store b12 so it's not necessary to take it daily).
Not sure how you can achieve 17 miles in just 1.5 hours (90 minutes) on a walking treadmill desk unless you were maintaining an average speed of 11 miles/hour. It would be helpful to know what Dr Greger does to average 17 miles per day. For example, at 2 miles/hour it would take 8.4 hours of walking per day to achieve 2 x 8.4 = 16.8 miles of walking each day.
Dr. Greger does great work and gets a lot done in a day. If he is able to be this productive on a treadmill desk most of the day, then he should make it more known, and advocate the use of treadmill desks along with the plant based diet. The backing of employers and business would help accelerate the culture change if we could prove the productivity increase, healthcare saving, other cost savings, etc.
What about people with the MTHFR gene mutation? I have always been told that with this gene mutation, one cannot methylate cyanocobalamin. That it is unusable by our bodies and we require methylcobalamin. Thoughts?
I think a lot of Science papers about these superfoods are in chinese or in some asian language. Can your have them translated and make videos about them? Or can someone start nutritionfacts.cn ;-)
Love Dr. Greger :) I've been buying his book an giving them away to people as birthday presents :) gotta plant those seeds :)
That is so great! The newsletter today says you can get birthday book plates now signed by Dr. G! Full details on the website!

Totally agree
I never thought about how much I would love a Dr Greger live stream ... until now.

He's too pale. His eyes aren't dreamy enough. We cannot trust someone like this.
Only science deniers call him a quack.
@@jacobnunya808 Thats subjective, to me his eyes are so dreamy, and his skin is perfect.
Jacob was only being facetious. He made a statement that people base credibility on faulty criteria.
I just like this guy. I have to smile all the time I watch him and he just does a awesome job. thank you very much for your work!!
When oh when is dr Greger coming to England ,would love to see him in person ,love his passion for vegan way of living

THANKS for your incredible work Dr Greger, you are an awesome force for good!!!
As always, thank you Dr. Greger.
Thanks for answering my question, doc! That was fun and good news for me to hear. :)

+Kristina DeMuth gah, class every Thursday night! It's okay, these videos are still great!
+Kristina DeMuth can you please please send notification so more people can join?
Thank you! Please make more videos like this.
Thanks for the great video. Could you please make a video on how you pressure cook dry beans? I had never heard of that and not having to soak would be a life changer!!! I saw a couple other videos on UA-cam but they use oil or they didn't explain very well. Thanks Dr. Gregger, your the man!!!
seconded!!
Atomic Skies Do you like your instant pot? Looks like a pretty good system and doesn't cost too much.
+Twistedhippy Jill Nussinow is the 'veggie queen' she has the pressure cooker down pat and shows you how to cook beans in approx 10 minutes on UA-cam. Hope that helps!:)
Much love and respect for the knowledge from Dr. Gregor!
thank you for all the information. 💚💚💙💙💛💜💜💚💚
So annoyed I missed this live but still so much great info, look forward to the next one! 😇
Great Q&A thank you. Would be even better if the questions asked were listed in the description section along with the time answered during the video.
Awwww boo I missed it! You changed my life Dr. Greger.
Come back September 22! :)
Thank you for all you do.
Great video, please do more of them in the future. Keep up the great work! :)
You should do this more often and put yourself in different awesome places around the world with the green screen.

Thank you so much for your work !
love your Book ... hope it gets translated to German at some point so i can pass it around to more people
Thanks for all the info!! Also looking good Dr. Gregor digging the clean shaved looks! :p
The microwave part cracked me up! I learn so much from you! Thank you :)
What do you think of carbonated water--La Croix, Pellegreno, Perrier? Good or bad?
Could you please list the time stamps for each question in the description box. Thanks!
Can't wait to see you in Toronto for the Veg Fest!!! So excited woo hoooo
Doctor greger, what are your thoughts on honey and on intermittent fasting?
My husband read an article that the B12 cy...was cyanide so I switched to tne My...so now I should be taking the B12 Cy.?
Also, the methylb12 gets dealkylized by the mmachc enzyme. so it's not like you can skip a metabolic step with taking ch3b12.
I missed this Q&A... until now!
Superb info Dr G!!
Thank you doctor so much for the information, I do IF all the time is super healthy and great for insulin sensitivity too

Please videos on long-term fasting!
I am really looking forward to acne info. I dont have it myself but I used to struggle terribly as a teen with no helpful information.

I enjoyed this so much.

Omega essential fatty acids (ground flax seeds, shelled hemp seeds, avocado) with your last meal (away from sugar).

thanks for this dr greger.

Thank you
Not sure how you can achieve 17 miles in just 1.5 hours (90 minutes) on a walking treadmill desk unless you were maintaining an average speed of 11 miles/hour. It would be helpful to know what Dr Greger does to average 17 miles per day. For example, at 2 miles/hour it would take 8.4 hours of walking per day to achieve 2 x 8.4 = 16.8 miles of walking each day.
maybe he walks the whole 8 hours that he works and just recommends 90 minutes to others?
What about flaxseed and testosterone decrease level??
Awesome video!!!
Great talk! Please do a video about Tinnitus!!! Thanks...
What about people with the MTHFR gene mutation? I have always been told that with this gene mutation, one cannot methylate cyanocobalamin. That it is unusable by our bodies and we require methylcobalamin. Thoughts?
Such a nerd! Love Dr Greger!
