Thanks to our friends at Fraport (who operate Thessaloniki and Rhodes airports), we were able to get behind the scenes to see exactly how loads of professionals work tirelessly to make our flights as smooth as possibl.e
Aegean Airlines operates a flight from Frankfurt to Thssaloniki and another one on to Rhodes. You’ll be onboard to see what it’s like to take the trip in Business Class.
Our first flight was onboard an Aegean Airlines A321neo.
In this video, you’ll also see the beautiful scenery along the way, but best of all, you'll get out on the apron to see just how these airplanes are turned in 35 minutes or less~!

The entire time I was so impressed by how seamlessly you pronounced Thessaloniki, then I got to the bloopers.
If it makes it easier, Imperial Airways used to call it Salonika (which was the terminus for the boat planes from Europe)
As an airline employee, I feel as if passengers take for granted how much of a miracle modern aviation is, thanks for highlighting the work we do to keep the industry alive Jeb!
There is a reason why Aegean Airlines are winning in many consecutive years the title of the best regional airline in Europe. One of the very few airlines which still offer a hot meal even in economy on 1,5 to 2 hr flights, plus soft drinks, tea or coffee. And flying on the 31st of December you might even receive a fresh pomegranate as gift, which is meant to bring you luck in the new year.
They are great on medium distance flights such as London Heathrow to Athens; British Airways used to be very good on medium haul but sadly have declined since the Alex Cruz era
As an airline employee myself, I love my job and love how he explained how everything works. We work really hard to make sure you get to your destination on time and safely. More times than not, delays are out of our hands. We appreciate you and want to make sure your travel experience is as smooth as possible. Hey Jeb. Thank you once again for highlighting the important role that the ramp has in terms of turning planes around. If you ever fly into Fort Myers, more specifically on United, keep an eye out on the ramp and you might see me. I’m a ramp supervisor for AGI which is the ramp contractor for United and, I have to tell you, it is one of the best jobs I could ever ask for. I love the part where you highlighted how long it takes for a plane to turn around for an on time departure but what defines an on time departure for an airline? I could talk about this for hours but the shortened version is as soon as the pilot releases its parking brake before the departure time, whether the pushback begins or not, the flight is considered out on time. Again, thank you so much and I’d love to meet you the next time you’re in Fort Myers

Yep, I flew with many captains that as soon as we had the takeoff data, would drop the brake for a few seconds, then put it back on. It would register as out time, so if the rampers weren’t ready, it would still be on time (and most importantly, we would be getting paid)

It is amazing that you featured Aegean Airlines and Rhodes in a video! I live in CT, but visit my family in Rhodes every summer so Diagoras airport has a very special place in my heart. In fact, I was able to visit the ATC tower a few years ago because a relative is a controller there. Keep up the great work!
Great video Jeb! Unfortunately people today take it for granted what it takes to get a plane in on time and turned for an on time departure. I’m a 15 year veteran of the airlines in the U.S. and still avgeek from early on. Travelled the world. Keep the videos coming! ✈️
They’re opening up an Amtrak line to from Mobile AL to New Orleans this spring! Would love for you to review it! Scenic over the water and gators
While at SkyWest as a pilot, we turned a EMB-120 Brasilia in 15 minutes and a CRJ-200 in 17 minutes. It really takes everyone working together to accomplish it!
Not going to lie. Half the reason I watch these videos is because they are cool and entertaining but the other half is that I find Jeb to be very attractive. It helps to have a great video with great eye candy!

Great video. I first flew to greece 50 years ago this summer. Its still great and just a bit different, which is why we love Greece and the Greeks so much. Fraport have definitely invested, and improved the airport facilites and experience. Rhodes was a mere 45 years ago !

The wife and I flew with Aegean business from Paris to Thessaloniki 8 years ago, their product was very impressive for that small hop too. Good to see a greek airline on the rise again, hopefully they will get bigger planes and start going further in the future *cough* Perth to Athens non stop *cough* 😊 another great vid Jeb
Great video and nice behind the scenes shots. I am originally from Thessaloniki and flew hundreds of times from there, seems to be a nice functional airport. As for A3 the airline offers a great product for domestic and Europen flights. Food/Snacks, Wifi, USB, modern fleet etc. Generally happy to fly with the airline.

Oh wow those lockers in the lounge are a nice feature! I wish more lounges had that. I always feel a bit uncomfortable stepping away from my bags to get food, but it's unwieldy to take them with me when I'm gonna need free hands for a plate and/or drink

Thanks for another great video Jeb. I know time is money when a plane is sitting at a gate but allowing only 35 mins for an airline turnaround puzzles me, particularly when they only start boarding 10 mins before timed departure.. I know many things have to come together for an on time departure, your video explains what goes on behind the scenes. Greetings from Australia, love your videos..

This is so exciting! My family lives in Thessaloniki, so I have been going through that airport my whole life! I have seen it grow over the years. I have also flown through Frankfurt a few times… but I hate it (as well as all German airports) with a passion, so I pay extra now to avoid it. I know the Thesaaloniki airport is very odd (no jetways for a main airport in a city with over 1 million residents), so I appreciate the deep dive!

Great video! Always interesting to note how professional and polished flight crews look in Europe or anywhere outside North America where most crew look like they dressed for the gym, got dragged through a hedge backward or quite frankly need assistance to function.

First of all, thanks for highlighting the more minor details about the aviation industry here in Greece. Especially during winter times, it is indeed vital to the small island economies.
The aspects you highlighted regarding SKG Airport are so accurate, especially regarding the magnificent Aegean lounge.
However, I'm sad to say that the 35' turnaround is nothing short of a Greek frequent flyer's dream for Aegean. Year-round, but mostly during the summertime, Aegean is plagued by constant delays during all times throughout the day, having between 45' and 60' minute turnarounds, befuddled gate agents due to overworking and continuous setbacks with the buses, and baggage offloading.
I love the airline and their hard product, all the aircraft staff are amazing and helpful, but if they don't up their game on the ground, us who fly with them constantly will think about it every time we need to arrive somewhere on time.

That's kind of cool....for biz class, they just leave the middle seat empty. Money saving for the airline since you don't have to reconfigure your aircraft w/ different sections. When I was flying, I tried to do that w/ Southwest a lot, get a window or aisle seat w/ an empty center seat....that's the good part about their open seating policy...you can move around if the flight isn't full, and then decide what /where you want. The empty center seat is cool because you can flip down the tray and it's like having extra space for putting food, drinks, etc.

Flew Aegean Airlines just recently from Zagreb to Athens and had no issues with the flight.
You should see some of the stacking done by the crew... I used to work baggage/ramp handling at STN (not giving away the company), and the stacking is very precise...
