The bridge opened March 23rd 1977, a couple of days past its 47th anniversary.
The Golden Gate Bridge is 87 years old. Look at it, the supports are far apart and there's much less chance of any ship hitting them.

The government needs to fix the infrastructure asap do business and travel can go on as before. People need that bridge to get to hospitals, to work, to make things happen. They will definitely look to recover the money from those responsible after, but they need to get it built now without delay.

@@Champion-jb6ujmayday mayday call went over to Maritime and they called Maryland Police. It must’ve gone out to all their radios. Thank God the police’s quick thinking to block the bridge on both ends saved so many lives. Team work at its best! God bless them all. You can see the construction workers vehicles on the bridge when it collapsed. What a horrific accident. I wonder is there was a language barrier? Since the construction worker who spoke in Spanish said a lot of his coworkers and friends were working on the bridge and it’s a big loss for him and their families. They weren’t able to get the message out to the construction workers in time. RIP 🙏

I've been on boats that have lost power, you're at the mercy of the current, and I'm surprised in a busy place Port like this that there aren't tugboats and especially with the vessel that size.

He's not a dumbass like trump or the thousands of broadcasters we hear from regularly that just read teleprompters and go off on tangents. When he interviews someone personally, you see professionalism like James Bond. He's not Jesus or anything, but he's a good example for younger journalists; better than most

On September 15, 2001, days after September 11, a barge crashed into columns of the Queen Isabella Causeway Bridge ( Port Isabel to South Padre Island in Texas). I remember when this occurred, it was thought it was another terrorist attack. Eight people died, among then the Fire Chief who was responding to this tragedy. Eight people driving plunged to their deaths. Just horrible. For months people ferried back and forth as they commuted from SPI to mainland.
Prayers for strength to the families of the victims of the Baltimore tragedy.

They should pass legislation so that all bridges where these large ships travel be equipped with barriers that can stop the ships and prevent them from hitting the bridges. It would cost less than rebuilding the bridges and stop loss of life.

Why is the federal government going to rebuild, State and city responsible for rebuilding. Shipping and city insurance should cover repairs. The abortion pill is state control, Not federal government control not their decision to much government control.

The Key Bridge Span crumpled like an erector set. The fenders around the towers were evidently not adequate.
That ship weighs 91,000 tonnes.

Okay so it looks like the ships engine lost power, that black smoke coming out was the backup generator coming on which gave it power back but that's not the engine so it remained uncontrollable they then sent out mayday calls and dropped the anchor to try to slow it down but you just can't stop a ship that size.

How did they block the cars entering the bridge bit neglected to tell the workers on the bridge to get off?
that's what I was wondering.
They had two officers on duty, one at each end of the bridge when the mayday call came in over the radio. They could each block the one lane that was open to traffic (northbound and southbound). They were waiting for a third offficer to show up on scene to maintain the road blockade so one officer could hurry to the work crew on the span. Alas, time ran out before that third officer arrived.
@@hwyfan the 2 officers couldn't yell get off the bridge to the people while they were leisurely waiting for the 3rd cop? I wouldn't be able to not yell at anyone of severe impending doom. But I guess that's just me.
@@atxchaser I presume you’ve never been across the Key Bridge. It is a 1.6 mile long crossing. Standing at either end, they would not be able to be heard by the workers, who were sitting in their vehicles on meal break, 180 feet in the air 3/4 of a mile away from them.
