Hi. Thank you for your video. I was wondering if a patient who has EoE and Candida esophagitis can be cured of EoE. That is, can treating Candida cure the EoE?
EOE is a clinical diagnosis. Histologic feature that supports it is high eos in the proximal esophagus and number decreases distally. It is an allergic reaction to food. Reflux is a localized injury to the distal esophagus, so it is usually presents with neutrophils/eos only in very distal esophagus
@@Baking_MD I’ve been diagnosed with EoE as well as reflux. I don’t know why I have reflux, I have no risk factors for it, maybe chronic inflammation caused it?
Is it possible for me as an M1 to shadow a pathologist during winter break/ summer break? I'm really obsessed and I want to do it but I don't know how....
Most definitely. I agree with Q Y, if there your medical school's associated hospital has pathology, you should send them a email. If not, you can try emailing program directors of other programs to see if you can come do an observership.
i know this might be a weird question but can you, as a pathologist, examine the slides on a computer screen instead of microscope? (just like in the video). I am considering pathology residency and i really like it but i dont like the microscope. Like, can u go all-digital?
Yes and no. Digital Pathology is something programs are starting to develop. As far as I know, only 2 programs in the US are fully digital. If you are interested in AP, unfortunately, you will have to get used/learn to love the microscope
Hi!
I'm a med student from Brazil and maybe a future pathologist!
Thank you so much for your videos!!!
You can do it!
How is pathology as a branch in Brazil , what's future of pathologist in Brazil
Really cool and really helpful as a 3rd year med student interested in pursuing Pathology!
Pathology is awesome! Really give it a hard consideration. :)
Wow great video! Thanks a lot! :) Love this series!
Glad to hear it!
I primarily manage patients with HIV/AIDS, it is really interesting to see what is happening histologically in esophageal candidiasis, thanks!!
Glad you find this helpful!
Sure don't hope I get Canada-esophagitis. Thanks for the vid! :)

Coincidently, on GI rotation now, lol. Again, thank you for such good videos! Btw, I noticed some spongiosis in that candida case...
At a histological level, how do you tell if it's reflux causing the inflammation or EoE. What if GERD and EoE are co existing?

Yes, you can have both.

Just email the pathology clerkship director of your school, or pathologists who has taught your classes.

What an amazing video! Really like your voice. Are you Korean, doctor?
Thank you! I'm actually Chinese.
@@Baking_MD yeah. Love your accent.
