This is such a great set. Much more interesting than the official release. I would love to see the Vanguard performances released officially in a box set. John Ore was on fire. Everyone was sounding great. I know that at the time Sun Ra was dealing with the aftermath of a stroke, but this is still a great set nonetheless. I love hearing Sun Ra in a small combo setting.
Wow. Shadow World real slow. Great to hear Sun Ra tunes that he so rarely performed live: Space Aura, Ankhnatan.
Hello 👋🏽 what's the minute where he performs Space Aura, that's my favorite Sun Ra's song
@@EyaoPantah He starts to get into it at 56:43.
amazing we're still getting unheard sun ra recordings, thank you 🙏
i recorded this and each set the whole week… later in the week they were really cooking, compared to the album release from early in the week (13th i think ?) which was relatively lackluster
gilmore was short of breath as he suffered from emphysema, so his phrasing came in bursts
Thanks for all the recordings! From Village Vanguard 1991, I just have the 15th and 17th recordings that just went up. They were posted on the Adventure-Equation blog in 2012. Would love to hear more.
Earthlies says 14th for the Rounder CD recording, but maybe with some uncertainty. I never cared much for the album, but some of this stand is pretty great.
Thanks for your Commentary @lovevolv
