Love the vid. I hate the music though. Especially when you guys talk I have to turn the volume up just to hear you then that loud techno music blares just as loud as the sunshine’s In mid July.
Really good video. Doing this right now but I’m having the hardest time getting the gunk off cylinder block without fear of scratching the surface too harshly. I have been cleaning it with a razor blade and gasoline/parts cleaner/gasket remover for a week and it’s still has micro carbon caked up on there in spots. Your block looked a tad bit cleaner than mine so I will probably go off of that
Hey good sir, doing the same thing myself right now, torqued heads and lower intake, rockers, valve covers, having a little trouble figuring out the vacuum lines and all the hoses any way you could help me out a little?
What was your torquing procedure for the rocker arms? Looks like you were rotating the crank so that you could torque each one with the lifter at its lowest spot/valve spring with lowest tension. Is that correct?
WISH you had a shot from above or cameras on your head, my truck was in a shop 3 months and all the mech did was pull the upper intake off, got fed up with him & got a wrecker pull it out, now I will have to put it back together or sell it as is, BUT, I saved $1000.00 he was gonna charge me if he EVER finished it, thankfully I didn't have much $$ in it.
Hey there quick question i got a 99 ranger 3.0 im gettin for free father and law told me it die on him im pretty-sure its the head gaskets just wondering how much you spend on the heads ? I want to know if it’s worth putting the money in to it, i mean the truck its in good shape body, no rust an i need a small pu to move stuff around cancyou also tell me what else i will need to replace? Water pump? Thanks for video !
I’m doing the same job right now and I can’t find any source of information on what to do as far as re-installing push rods. Do I just torque them down? I haven’t turned the crank shaft at all!
It's hydraulic lifters so reinstall them the exact way you took them out and tighten down rockers I would spin motor over just to make sure they appear to be working right but other than that nothing special that needs to be done!
OH NOOOOOOOESSSSS, THREE AND A HALF INCHES OF RAIN, CLOSE EVERYTHING DOOOOOOWN!!!! *eyeroll* I live in Denver, try dealing with a polar vortex sometime; it'll change your entire world view....
Critical question, about the valve lifter retainer setup on this motor. I cant use a lifter pulling tool because of this, now i have to pull the intake off and remove it to replace one bad lifter. this pisses me off. in your opinion can i just leave that crap off in case of a future bad lifter? I mean really, if a lifter popped out that means the push rod/rocker failed and its game over anyway right? you can see the retainer crap clearly at 1:56 holding the lifters
@@radozeman I believe I have some blown gaskets in my Ranger if I could do it myself and save the money I certainly will do that. Don’t Know much but I’ve been watching videos such as these trying to learn
Is it automatic or manual? Because I think you applied the TDC before removing the heads. I have a 99 ford ranger 3.0 v6 with 265k and I think I have to do this due by misfiring and a dead cylinder.
i literally only needed 2 mins at the lower intake to figure out how to proceed on my end. thx guys. we need vids like these to educate people.
Glad it helped!
im old school, but i love how easy this engine to work on is and that it is all cast iron (head and block)
Oh, same here! Nothing like a "classic" motor that is easy to work on!
the music is quite overpowering but however i enjoy the repair videos
Love the vid. I hate the music though. Especially when you guys talk I have to turn the volume up just to hear you then that loud techno music blares just as loud as the sunshine’s In mid July.
I did not see you apply sylclone on intake gaskets?
Where were the gaskets for the upper intake manifold?? Never saw them.

You can use a wire brush in it, just don’t go hard on it.
No head bolts what to torque to fast forward ing that's not showing people how to do the job my opinion I rate video 1 threw 10 a 2
Well, it runs. Will have to see what comes next.
Exactly....
Hey good sir, doing the same thing myself right now, torqued heads and lower intake, rockers, valve covers, having a little trouble figuring out the vacuum lines and all the hoses any way you could help me out a little?
All the videos would be much better without music.
What was your torquing procedure for the rocker arms? Looks like you were rotating the crank so that you could torque each one with the lifter at its lowest spot/valve spring with lowest tension. Is that correct?
Just torque them down, no procedure.
You use new heads?
Excellent I am about to do the service on my truck, but I have a doubt about the tightening that you are using for the head screws.
Just follow the manual or look up the torque specs online!

Ouch and if your not the one that took it apart, unfortunately I don’t have the real time video anymore.
I have a question, what is the price for this Job ,,, parts and labor ???
Parts was $300 if remember correctly.
Any trick to installing the push rods? Or is it straight up ?
I saw you turn the crank. Was it so the push rods can be at their highest position?
Nope just drop them in, make sure they are in the lifters of course, turning the crank was to get it to top dead center.

What is the white sealant you are using on valve covers and intake manifold?
Do you recall if the lifters could be removed with a lifter puller without pulling the lower intake manifold?
I think the lower manifuld needs to be removed if I remember correctly.
How did you adjust the valves and timing??
Did not have to adjust! Didn't touch the timing.
How were you moving the valves up and down. Were you moving the crank?
@@alexromero572 I did the same thing. Just spin your crankshaft pulley by hand
I’m doing the same job right now and I can’t find any source of information on what to do as far as re-installing push rods. Do I just torque them down? I haven’t turned the crank shaft at all!

What is the adjustment for the push rods on 93 Ford ranger 3.0
Sorry but I do not know.
@@radozeman it dropped lifter and push rod but thanks for the help
Missing the part where you find top dead center.
Don’t have to for the valves if that is what you are looking for!

That may be true if it pops out, I don't know that I would try that though.
@@radozeman it finally occurred to me, roller lifters can't be allowed to turn sideways, thanks
good question.
Good job but hate the music almost makes it un- watchable for my taste
Hi boss, question dido you used the torque for the cylinder head or for the rest also?
Yes, torque specs for most including heads and valve covers
Do you have to tdc before pulling heads or before installing heads?
Negative. Shouldn't be any timing or adjustment needed!
What ignition coil and spark plug wires did you use?
Just some random brand
What spark plug wires do u recommend?
Can you give me the information on the torque on the intake manifold? I am urged please thank you
Should be able to google it!
Mine was 25 ft lbs
Hey do you have a list of the torque specs for bolts
If you have a Haynes manual it has a list, that’s what I used.
What gaskets and bolts did you use?
The ones that came with the kit I believe. Top end rebuild kit
Well Done!! and Goodbye.
Oh don't say that yet, I should have left a teaser at the end of this video.... ugh.
Can I ask where you ordered your heads from?
eBay!
I was gonna do this on my ranger. Nope. Don’t have the patience. What’s a fair price to pay a shop?
800.00
@@jeffvickers9944 thanks
How much would this cost to have done ?
Depends what is wrong, probably $500-1000 at a shop, if you just do the head gaskets and do it yourself then probably $50 and 5-10 hours of work.

You forgot to time it before putting the valve covers on.
Don't have to with the lifters.
Lifters are self adjusting, only needs to be torqued

Killin me with this BS music
Can't even watch the video because of the music. CHANGE IT UP!!! nobody wants to listen to the same thing for 25 minutes straight
Garbage job showing how to do the lifters.
I didn’t do anything with the lifters
