I just left from getting my hsg procedure done. I’m sorry your experience wasn’t better. I was told to take meds an hr before the procedure so I did. The nurse was very clear with me regarding the process. When the dye went in it almost brought me to tears. The nurse was telling me to relax and breathe. She offered to hold my hand and tried distracting me with talking about my Christmas. The pain didn’t last long thank God but it was so extremely painful. Felt like my first day on my cycle.
I did mine about 4 or 5 years ago, it was excruciating I couldn't believe it, not so long afterwards another doctor recommended I do it again, God forbid i refused, ended up doing IVF and just got my positive blood test today, HSG is a nightmare!!!!!
I just had it done today and i am in so pain. I was on this little bed and begging them stop and there was someone hold down my hands. The doctor talk through the whole procedure about what she was doing but I just could not manage or tolerate the pain. I beg them to stop and I had to get off the table and clean myself up. They deflowered me at that hospital today and feel so traumatized. I had difficulties driving myself home and I started to feel hot like I felt like I was going to pass out. I had to literally call someone to actually help me because I could not manage. I am hurting so i can't even cough and the bleeding too much. I didn't do my research about this procedure either and my doctor did not make a big deal of it.I had one of the most painful experience as a woman and will never do this test again. When it was all over the doctor said to me you want me to tell your results your tubes are cleared. I was so mortified I laid a little and I took myself up and clean myself up. I was given pad and wipes for the bleeding. I didn't care about the results I just wanted the pain to stop. I felt the hospital in tears and pains.
I had mine done last week 4/12/23 and omg😢. They didn't tell me to take anything, they didn't tell me anything, she told me it would take 5 mins it took about 45mins because they had to find my uterus. I let them know it was tilted. The Dr. Was digging in me so bad and he had to call another Dr to help him, that Dr eventually found it and the procedure started. I hope I never have to go though that again
I had mine recently. No pain whatsoever. Didn't even know the procedure was over. They had given me strong pain medication for the procedure. Additionally, they gave lidocaine injection during the procedure. I think it's the lidocaine that did the trick! Talk to the clinic about it prior to the procedure 😊
I just got a SONO-HSG! That pain was awful! I should have asked for meds because it was really painful. But honestly I want my baby so much. I would tell anyone to do what you have to do to get your baby ! I wouldn’t want to do it again but I want that baby 🥹🥹
Just did mine today and i still shiver while thinking of the pain i had to go through. I cried but immediately they finished, it was gone. Hopefully i dont have to repeat 😢

Even after the pain relief injection, the pain is still out of this world. Most painful 20mins of my life. Worse than menstrual cramps. Just had mine today. My life literally flashed before me.
This was posted a long time ago and I had my hsg back in 2020 too. I had almost the exact same experience as you. I am a physician and was told to expect "menstrual like cramps". I didn't read online about it beforehand. Was told to take ibuprofen before and did. I was fine with the clamp, catheter insertion, but as soon as the dye went in I screamed the F word. I had no control. Broke out in a sweat, was moaning and tried to get off the table- they held me down. The male physician told me it was like period cramps. My left tube wasn't filling and they had to turn me and then move me again. I literally felt primal fear and pain, I have never felt anything like that in my life. They found out I had a small uterine septum but tubes were open and I don't know if that contributed to my severe pain. At the end someone told me having a baby will be worse pain. So not much empathy for me either. My husband had luckily driven me because I could barely walk after it and he saiid I looked ready to pass out. In the medical community even some women physicians say opioids don't help with uterine pain and there is this whole stance that it's ok to do these barbaric procedures without anesthetic and minimal pain meds (like ibuprofen) stating that some women just have low pain tolerance. However, when I had a miscarriage the pain was not as severe, and opioid pain meds the ER gave me sure did help with the pain. I went on to have a baby and early labor was not as painful as this horrible procedure. I am sorry that you also went through this, and as you can probably tell by the novel I wrote this trauma did stay with me too.
@@cclovecc1221 Thank you for sharing! When I tell people that my two unmedicated deliveries were nothing compared to this, they think I’m exaggerating. My miscarriage felt like cramps, these did not!!

Question: I know the pain goes away quickly, but is having a baby similar to the pain and cramping at it’s highest point from an HSG? I know labor can be even 30 hours, but the actually pain at its highest. Is having a baby more painful without an epedural?
I couldn’t drive myself so I had to call my husband on the phone and ask him to come pick me up…plus my doc didn’t explain to me and I didn’t even make any research
I also had the hsg test to see way I have not concived yet,the pain was awful, I thought I was dying with the pain,I was in pain for 2 days, the out come of the hsg was that one of my tubes had hydrosalpinx which is toxic fluid which drips in to my uterus and other follopen tube, and its very had to concive, u have to have the fallopian tube out or get it cliped, even with ivf it wouldn't work if u have hydrosalpinx as it would flush the embryo out.

Mine wasnt so bad. In fact it was better than i expected. Sorry some of you had to experience dying pain. I wonder if it means something. Just a heads up you can take pain meds prior and when the procedure is starting take a few deep breath and allow your body too relax. Also try to communicate with your Dr to keep your mind busy like ask how the process works or whats next if theyre not talking especially lol. Understand the procedure is about ten minutes and the pain only last about 15 secs then you have some cramping which if you already took pain meds like pamprin you should be OK. If you can hump, you'll be ok 😂
I did mine few months back, I thought I was going to die due to the pains and my husband said I will still do another one coz another doctor recommend it.
Did the first one show that your tubes had a blockage? There is some research that says it might be beneficial if that is the case. Please get strong painkillers, preferably a prescription strength one.
