Thank you for sharing your transfer. As a physical therapist assistant, you are an inspiration to people just learning and fearful of the transfer. Well done and your humor adds to the video!
I am not in a wheelchair but I love watching your videos for the simple fact that it's educating and your voice is incredible. And you're inspiring. ❤❤
I love hearing that those that are not disabled/in a wheelchair see the importance of my videos! Thank you for such an awesome compliment! Glad you like my voice too, i think. HA!
Great job! I have a transfer board but haven't been brave enough to use it to get on the bed. I put the wheelchair facing the bed, lock the brakes, put my feet on the bed and slide from the wheelchair onto the bed. You could try this and see if it is easier for you. The only problem I've had is that I sometimes have forgotten to lock one or both wheels but I've always been able to grab onto the bed or reach down to lock the wheels in time before falling off. Also, make sure there is nothing under the wheelchair that could cause it to slide away from the bed. Oh, I did remember I did fall once but was able to grab hold of the wheelchair and go down slowly onto the floor.
I am pretty comfortable with the way that I transfer. I don't have to use the transfer board much. I was just demonstrating here for when I hurt my shoulder and did have to use it. It does come in handy when transferring into other peoples vehicles on the rare occasion I do that. Your comment about falling made me laugh. I have had all too many experiences of having to do controlled falls LOL. My brakes suck so I have to be super careful!
my suggestion would be to find a material that will move over top of the transfer board. I happen to wear a lot of smooth skirt that slide easily over my transfer board. So you could do that. I definitely can't slide with the transfer board if my skin is touching it.
Well done for showing how its done. I guess youve heard it before but as a siister I need to keep the weight down. It helps with transfer and general mobility.
I remember a few years ago I needed a lot of home care around that time as I was recovering from my second pressure sore. Anyway, a carer turned up one Christmas Night (after I'd had a fair drop of alcohol) and observed that I could use my banana board drunk better than I could sober.
love the fact that you inserted the comment "devotees don't like or care for\about boobs"! It amazes me that those who went thru rehab yrs ago weren't taught to do transfers with a board and I applaud those who mastered it from day one. I can't imagine doing any type of transfer without a board when I was 1st injured, I know for a fact that my arms & shoulders wouldn't have been strong enough at that time. The only advice\tip I can think of when it comes to using a transfer board is to not put your fingers or hand in those slots on either side of the board. I learned that early on lol it doesn't feel good to get your fingers smashed in those holes with all of your body weight on top of them. Hope your shoulder\pulled muscle heals quickly!
Yeah i had to take them off a few months ago for something and just haven't put them back on :P Thanks for the reminder haha. The entire boob shot doesnt look blurry to me lol
Living Able You know it's bad when I notice things like electrical outlets in a video lol.. I guess it's my need to fix things.. I went back and watched without obsessing over the outlet hehe.. the boob shot was Nice..kudos 👍
Living Able Bed bugs are tough to get rid of.. Might need a exterminator for that task.. we had them once, it took me forever to get rid of them plus I bought a new mattress.. probably would've been cheaper for me to call a exterminator to start with..
That's what brought on the new bed lol. Had to sleep in my wheelchair for 4 nights before the "new" mattress came after they took away my old one. And i've been exterminated twice. Havent seen any for months but I haven't been "cleared" yet. 6 months later....
I occasionally pull a muscle in my sleep or pull a muscle doing very random things. It's really hard to get around that way lol. I was also not trained and have no experience using a transfer board. So when people suggest using one I'm like uuuuuhh... lol. When I started watching this video, I though you were going to transfer out the window. Lol
HAHAHAHA transfer out the window! More like I wanna throw the transfer board out the window most of the time lol! But it's helping with the bed transfer so I am happy there! The exercises do seem to be helping my shoulder but boy is it strange to be in this much pain and not know what I did lol. At least last time I knew I was dropped lol. ill just stick with the beating myself up story. It's much more entertaining :P
I think when I do it, I just sleep wrong. Does Tylenol or something help? Transferring out the window would have been entertaining, but I wouldn't recommend it lol.
haha you crack me up! No nothing helps when it's bad. Thankfully its not like really iritated all the time when just sitting. Only when I push for more than a few minutes or transfer. So I can tolerate it. I do think the exercises are helping a lot. Today has been the best day.
haha I totally missed this comment! My shoulder feels better than it has in years! Our recreation center is opening again in June and it will have both an indoor track and pool with a lift. I am excited to join so I can get more fit.
I am thankful I do not have to put too much stress on my shoulder transferring to my bed but the fact of how an inch or two off and the board is useless sucks!
Serious question question, how do you get a pressure sore by being on a transfer board for only a minute or two? I am not saying it didnt happen just dont understand the logistics if you are moving. Help me understand please :)
Living Able, my dad has atrophied after being paralyzed for 7 years. 7 years of sliding across the same board, eventually the irritation has caught up with him, his poor butt tissue pinched in that hole right under his butt bones... Two minutes of irritation eventually catches up over the years
hmmm interesting. Still dont quite understand. I am carefully with the end of the board b/c it could be sharp. But I always where clothes or have something in between me and the board to slide easier. Thanks for asking him.

Thank you so much! I wish UA-cam no longer I found my videos as inappropriate like they continue to mark them LOL
Sorry to hear because I see nothing but education, realism and someone who cares to help.

very helpful and you keep your comments funny so its not straight forward and boring. im not in a wheelchair but I liked the video
Aww thank you!
Great video! Easy to follow, lots of good, practical tips. And entertaining too. Thank you!
aww thanks!
I’m in the process of learning to use the transfer board as I have not had much luck previously. Any tips on how to get your hips to move?

oh ouch yes that wouldnt feel good! haven't done that yet but I know it would hurt lol. It's getting better little by little
Can you do a new floor to wheelchair transfer video your last one was 8 years
I noticed you didn't have covers on your electrical outlet.. Also the boob shot was blurry bahahaha 😂.. Great video dear 😘

Hey, I'd love to see you cross the mighty Mississippi on your transfer board!
lol that wont happen
thank you
My pleasure!
You are incredible. Hope you are doing ok x
Lifes crazy but I'm still here
@@LivingAble Good to hear x
what if the armrest of your chair don't move so how do you transfer then
I would be stuck. That's why I dont have those type of armrests.
I have an electric chair in the armrests don't move
That would be hard
Christina Dorman are you sure there aren't locks on the down posts? Which model chair do you have and what seating?
Hopefully she sees your comment soon! I know nothing about power chairs lol

hahaha ikr. UA-cam grabbed a cool shot lol. Honestly i'd like too lol
hahaha

Please be wary of this type of transfer board, my dad has a pressure sore from those hand holds. Try finding a more solid option if you can!

Living Able also, he said if only the hand holds were pointed horizontally to the board like the one they had him using at the hospital

Plus I rarely use mine. Only when my brakes need to be tightened or shoulder pain. I definitely dont do it everyday.
U r so funny
Ty
I’m starting to use a board to transfer into a car
Do you make money on UA-cam?
Not since they changed the rules. I used to. Maybe one day I will again
That’s a bummer 😔
