Hello from Okinawa, Japan! We lived in Alaska for 3 years. We preferred the Kasilof for dip netting. Opening day was always Ginger’s birthday. 😂. We were allowed 55 at the time. We sure miss that. We will be visiting next summer hopefully. Thanks for the great memories.
Hello from Alaska. We are going to check out the Kasilof next year, if we are here. Our dream is to ship the truck overseas and drive around the world, until COVID19 complicated everything. We want to start in Japan! I’m 1/4 Japanese, my grandfather met my grandmother during the occupation/reconstruction of Japan. Thank you for your service.
It always makes me smile when UA-camrs apologize for unexpected outcomes to their planned shoot, because that’s my favorite kind of video! Seeing how you respond to real life surprises, disappointments and adventures just makes it so much more intriguing and personal, in my opinion. ;-)
Former Alaskan here and I miss it very much. Glad you took the warning seriously. They don't always come in big if at all... but when they do the ones Alaska has had are massive. Plus with aftershocks you could have been caught at night. Halibut is also one of my Alaskan favorites... and Salmon from Alaska is so amazing. It's ruined me for any other salmon.
@@outliersoverland You're welcome. I watch often bit I'm just not a big poster. One of the reasons I'm watching even more now is because of the following... We lived in Barrow for 8 years (1990s) and I miss Alaska every day. I grew up moving around as a military brat as did my late husband. Not long after we were married he was offered a job there and we jumped at the chance. Despite how different it was from anywhere I'd ever lived, with Alaska there was this immediate connection with the place and I felt at home. So while I also love your other travels I'm glad you are showing people more of the State.
Last time I was up there in 2006 anchorage eagle river area there was a small earthquakes every day. There's only just one i've felt here in altus OK. Things like earthquakes and volcanos have always interested me. Good luck on your next trip
Being on disability doesn't leave much to survive on up there. My daughter and grand children live in Juneau. I wish I could go back to commercial fishing but my legs aren't much for that idea after getting burned when I was a kid. I wish I could come up there to Juneau and see my grand daughters but that takes.money and living up there isn't cheap. So right now I'm stuck here. Have a good time on your next trip
@@outliersoverland we tried to get a pass but failed again.... We had so much fun with yall. We definitely need to plan something out soon. Hope you guys like the spot :). Sheep up on that mountain across from you if they are low enough. Hope the weather turns for your trip.
Hahaha you guys talked to my good friend/coworker after the tsunami warning (the officer in the green coat) I’ve been following you guys on Instagram for close to a year and was born and raised in nikiski. Unfortunately I wasn’t working the night of the tsunami warning but it would’ve been a pleasure to meet you both.
Unlucky on your trip but at least you live another trip again best not mess with mother nature and get the hell out of there maybe the fish knew it was going to happen lol
Ya know there is a reason they call it fishing and not catching. Glad you guys made it out before that giant 10" inch tsunami hit (I'm making fun of it but I do realize it is a treacherous situation if it's a big one). Maybe you can go catching another day and stock the freezer. The good thing about wintering in Alaska is that you don't have to use electricity to keep the fish frozen. Rebecca, should I send you one of my old motorcycle helmets for protection when Ben's driving?? Keep the good stuff coming guys.
@@outliersoverland so were you as shocked as I was when I saw pink salmon in a can..... and then I was more shocked it wasn't on the dog food aisle. Ok I was around ten at the time. Many moons later I still find it shocking.. I think you need to do a video of trying canned salmon. lol so I don't have too..... lol
You two are really good sports!!! It didn't suck at all and it makes me feel better about all of our sailing vacations which involved bad weather, seasick dogs and bored teenagers. Summer fun! What is it about 2020? :)
Hope your back is ok Rebecca. Sounded painful. My wife Laura and I would love to meet you guys. My name is Rod and we are life long Alaskans. Have a great trip into Denali Park
Hey Don. There are 5 species of Pacific salmon. 6 if you include the Atlantic salmon that escapes the farms, which makes no sense, farming Atlantic fish in the Pacific...
Used to live in Juneau for 21 years and remember a lot of things like that. Check out www.usgs.org for earthquakes. Commercial fished out of Juneau for 18 years. Last time I was up there was 2006 in anchorage and eagle river area. You can't be to safe on earth quakes and you have several active volcanos near there to. Good luck on the next trip
Redsan silvers are better, but I was born and raised in Alaska (only leaving for school) and I'm not a fan of the way you're talking about pinks. They are okay, being too good to eat pink salmon isn't a cultural thing for Alaskans. Smoke them, make salmon patties out of them, cook them with seal oil, they're fine. I agree on the chum though, most people look down on eating chum salmon.
A sea run pink is very edible, especially if bled out and cooked right on the boat. Most L48 people would pay $30 for that meal. That being said, if you are Alaskan and being given the choice of eating a pink or (sockeye, coho, chinook), I would not choose a pink.
Thanks for taking us along. Too bad fishing sucked... Be safe in Tsunami...
Thanks for watching. We lived to fish another day. lol.
Great video 😀 Thanks for taking us along for the journey!
Glad you liked it. Thanks.

Nothing went as planned but things come together in edit.
The tsunami alert was the icing on the cake for this rough fishing trip.
Great video of life in Alaska as long as your both safe be safe catch the next one soon
Thanks. Glad you liked it.
"We're not stuck... well, we're almost stuck!" :) Hilarious!!
Thanks.
Hi Guys great video your safety at all times must come first i have never heard or seen dipnetting fishing before stay safe guys
Glad you liked it and enjoyed seeing a slice of Alaska.
Glad your safe, I'm sure the dogs were thrilled . Fishing for their food PRICELESS. Look forward to your next adventures.. So enjoy all your videos
The dogs were very happy.
Even a sucky experience is fascinating to those of us in the lower 48! Can’t wait for your Denali vlog.

@@outliersoverland Love y'all 🤠 we're in this together 👍🌞
Have to agree with you there's nothing like a good piece of Alaskan salmon....yum
We like sockeye, kings and silvers.
Thanks for watching.
That fillet skill was awesome 👏🎣 🏕
Thank you. I’ve cut a few fish over the years.
Still glad you are safe. Even if it turned to be a test.
You never know when it’s going to be a big wave.
Nice job with the filet skills
Thanks. I cut a few fish when I was guiding.

Love the Alaska sunsets.
That was my favorite shot too, Dan! R~
Moving to Kenai in June.

LOL, if we go back into a beach, I’ll take you up on the helmet offer!
I'm surprised the RV didn't come with beadlock rims so that you could really lower the tire pressure because of it's heavy weight.
You start seeing that feature on the next level up In chassis. Our Fuso is a medium duty commercial chassis. The Unimog and LMTV have that feature.
Do you live in Seward? My youngest son was born there in 1977. We lived at north end of First Ave. in a Pan Abode house .
Yes. Since 2008. It’s a great place to call home.
Pink = dog food is so true. I too am a spoiled Alaskan.
So you know what we’re talking about!

We saw that tsunami warning and thought of you two. Wondering if you had to evacuate. Sorry it interrupted your fishing trip.
Things have a way of working themselves out. The tsunami warning wrapped up an unsuccessful fishing trip.

Hello neighbor.
Keep in touch if you come to Seward.
@@outliersoverland will do.
Same to you if ever in Fairbanks. Great footage of the park and it's inhabitants.
you should try go to kasilof and dipnet Its FREE. Just hit my 45 limit last week
Congrats. I have not been to the Kasilof yet. I drove to south shore once in our RV but not onto the beach.
I'm in California and I heard about that tsunami in Alaska. I thought salmon was a salmon. Lucky dogs
Hey Don. There are 5 species of Pacific salmon. 6 if you include the Atlantic salmon that escapes the farms, which makes no sense, farming Atlantic fish in the Pacific...
Probably the fish predicted the earthquake? Nature knows more than we do. Glad you guys are ok. Much love ❤️
Not sure but I think we timed our trip poorly with a commercial fishing open day.
When you had your Earthquake it shock here in Arkansas
Surprisingly we didn’t feel it.
The fish knew there was going to be trouble..
The we’re waiting to ride a wave.
What I'd do for a lifestyle like that!!!
Anything is possible. Never give up on your dreams. It’s okay if things don’t happen as fast as you want.
@@outliersoverland thanks for the encouragement
Actually I found this vlog somewhat entertaining.Does the salt eat into your fishing gear etc.?
Thanks. Things came together during the edit.
Check with a John Deere dealer for buying seats that have computer ride built in
Seat upgrades would be nice.
Fishing may have sucked but the video did not at all so no need to apologize for this. We love Alaska so anything about it counts. Have fun in Denali.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
