THE FLOODING IN ELISABETH VILLE TOMBEAU BAY WAS PREDICTABLE !!! In 2013 the District Council of Pamplemousses in collaboration with the NDU did make new major works in the area by constructing underground drains in Elisabeth ville.The main contractor was Best Construct Co ltd.Deep channel were dug and slabs were laid down to direct all the water from Tombeau Bay Royal Road through Capitaine street.But the BIG mistake was instead of directing the canal all through Capitaine street to the sea they decided to stop it half way and end the drain in a little canal in Carandine Street which is already at sea level.When the sea rises the water level in the canal rises. Can you imagine all the drainage system of Tombeau Bay royal street pouring in a little stagnant canal,Flooding is inevitable.This has been explained many times to the engineers but they dicided to ignore our recommendations.Due to their incompetencies today we inhabitants of Elisabeth ville have to bear the cost. There is no magic formula to solve the problem.The drain already started in 2013 must go right through Capitaine Street and exit in the sea.Cleaning the canal will not solve the issue as there is no slope to the sea this is why it remains obstructed as soon as debris or branches falls in it.We live there and know what is the best solution.We hope that our recommendation will be taken into consideration and that we shall not have to face flooding again which is life threatening for us and our children.
