  • New Order = New Wave legends! What an unbelievable song and performance! I finally got to see New Order in person! I've been wanting to see them for a long, long time. New Order is one of my favorite bands and this is one of my favorite tracks ("Blue Monday")! Just loved being immersed in the moment with this jam! Everyone is totally vibing.
So much has been written about this epic track and how ahead of its time it was. And while it may be one of the most well-known songs of the 80s, and especially new wave songs, it is also such an enduringly-great song still all these years later. Maybe Joy Division would've shifted this way, with Ceremony being such the incredible bridge song between Joy Division and New Order, but by the time the band created this gem three years after Ian's passing, something really new had been birthed, a new band rising out of Joy Division. Shout outs for the Kraftwerk sample, Giorgio Moroder/Donna Summer beat, and Peter Hook's fantastic inspiration from Ennio Morricone's otherworldly riff in "A Few Dollars More."
New Order used the synths to create the exactly opposite tone in this song, Blue Monday (cool/detached), and another favorite that they also played that night, Your Silent Face (warm/connected). And I love them both.
New Order on the beach at Surf City USA was awesome! Thanks to Darker Waves for putting together a fantastic day and such an outstanding lineup (30 bands headlined by New Order and Tears for Fears, with standout performances by the headliners and Human League and OMD). I'll post some more Darker Waves highlights.

To A remix. We ALL wish we were there! You also should look up another full length version on the internet, about when they played ALEXANDRA PALACE!

Maybe next time?! It took me a long time to make it happen. Lucky for all of us, they are still doing shows.
