I ran into a guy at the range one day who was shooting his custom 10/22. He told me all about it. He bought a stock 10/22. Then he took the barrel off and replaced it with a custom bull barrel. Then he replaced the stock with a fancy Hogue stock. After that he replaced the bolt. Then the trigger group and finally he replaced the receiver. I looked at all that and said "Wow, so, somewhere in a box at your house you have a complete factory Ruger 10/22 in pieces that needs to be put together." He looked stunned for a moment as he thought about it and said "Yeah, I suppose I do." Nowadays you can build a custom Glock, 10/22, AR10, AR15 and a few other firearms without using a single part manufactured by the original company. Pretty cool.
Just got that trigger when I redid my 10/22 that’s been sitting for 17 years. That timney trigger is sweet & 110% worth it! I did use a Kidd bolt & it’s sweet! Great video again, don’t need any more encouragement with buying parts....
Mike Glover is awesome. He is doing great stuff to help people be prepared for any and all disasters, natural or man-made. This is commonsense in a country where many people don't know anything about basic preparedness, first aid, self-defense, or homesteading. Great information... Thanks, Tucker.
The design of that VQ bolt/spring assy makes a lot more sense than the OEM arrangement. I'm pretty much still bone stock base model still trying to sight my scope in. Haha
Very cool video. You know your stuff and the 10/22 design never ceases to amaze. And not to nitpick but you were correct in originally calling the barrel v-block fasteners screws although technically they're capscrews :)
Recently upgraded my 10/22 with a Green Mountain 20 in. Bull barrel, BX trigger, and new bolt, buffer pin, & charging handle/spring from KIDD. Topped it off with a Nikon Rimfire Scope. Accuracy was good before upgrade but is fantastic now.
thanks a bunch Chad! you DID give me some advice that will help make my build better. .specifically the torque settings on the takedown screw, and how that effects the barrel harmonics. can't wait to see your match build! (wonder if it's at all like mine;)
This is cool, cuz this was my first rifle and I have an archangel kit for it. I also have an ar15. The fact that you've done a series on both rifles makes me feel like I have great tastes :)
In the slow motion closeup of the bolt at 18:30 or so, the charging rod/bolt rocks in a rotating motion before it locks forward. Is this normal? Also, will polishing the bolt sides and receiver walls reduce the grinding noise that is mostly what I hear when you fire suppressed? A bit of polish and lubricant seems to remove most of this.
Jackson Curtis sounds and looks like it could be converted to full auto real easy!! The rubber backing on the receiver pin set, suppressor threads. Well he did say for plinking that's why the suppressor threads. Anyway 10/22's are very, very, easy to convert to full auto, if you want to shoot 10 or 20 bucks worth of .22 shells in about 5 minutes hahahah Don't be fooled though, because a auto .22 will most definitely kill as well as stop just about any one or thing. Just saying cool comment too by the way.
Jackson Curtis I was about to comment that saying "so you bought a 10/22 then bought another gun in parts so now you have two guns that share a magazine"
nice little plinker. i have a savage 64 that is about as tricked out as a 64 can get. boyds' tacticool stock, threaded bull barrel, picatinny rail, siemens boresighter scope, and the trigger has been lightened up. color filled the engraving neon green. she's a heavy little gun now. only real thing i can honestly do to it is add an extended mag release. the end of the stock charging handle is milled out. fits a spent steel case .223 shell perfectly so i don't have to get the extended charging handle. i envy how much after market for the 10/22 has. no one even makes extended magazines for the 64.
18:22 I saw some slop in the bolt on the return stroke. Is that normal / acceptable in a high'ish end build. I am not wise regarding this so I am posing an honest question for those that think I'm trolling or hating. Thanks to Chad and Eric for another wonderful vid!
Nice build and kept it simple.. I prefer the carbine myself over the bull barrel but that is just a personal choice. I am using CCI mini mags at present but will be switching it up soon as I have spent the last of my 5000 rounds. . Not sure but I have heard many good things about the CCI SGB round and thought I would give it a try. If anyone has put this two rouinds side by side , is it worth while to switch from the CCI mini mag to the CCI SGB?
I'm customizing a ruger 10/22 dropping it in a fab defense folding stock running 1-8 ffp scope don't know the brand just yet prolly vortex running open sight barrel from tac sol ruger ugraded trigger pack pretty sweet so far for a pinker and could fit a survival role
I hear people talk about the size of their shot group at whatever distance, and we always wonder how much of that is due to human skill or error. I would like to see some video of somebody setting a 10/22 stock in concrete or in some way setting it about as immovable as possible, and then try different ammo and barrels or whatever that might affect where the bullets hit. That might be interesting.
Nice video, I have enjoyed it , the old saying, the little things are the hardest to work on , but as we see in this video, you have proof that phrase wrong , in this built of this rifle, the 10-22 , Thanks again.
Nice build! Looks good to me except for the Charging Handle. I personally like the one from Ruger better. I've got a old original Ruger 10/22 from back in the 1960's with the Alum. Butt Plate and the Barrel Band on it.
Since you used a Volquartzen receiver. What's the advantage of a Timney over a Volquartzen trigger group? Price is important but am looking for mechanical advantages. Thanks
Pumkinvine how far do you have to be for it to make any difference at all? It you're plinking without a scope but as far as you can see, are you going to experience any inaccuracy?
Perfect timing for this video! As I've been accumulating parts to build my own 10-22. I'm still undecided which stock and barrel manufacturer I will end up buying.
i would love to see how far you can hit things with that set up. next year i will build a 10-22 cost no care rifle. slap a nasty first focal plane on a 25 moa mount. delve into the "beaten zone" messing around with that "last catch"
I luv your guy's channel. I'm a Californian who luvs guns. I'm wondering if maybe you make a video of your 10 best Cal compliant guns and maybe a few tips of how to get around our horrible gun laws?
john S $2100 is 'cheap' considering a middle upper AR was over $5500+(inc. glass - Trijicon ACOG TA02-RM01) for me, and a precision long range rifle was in the $10,000+(inc. glass - Valdada IOR Crusader Tactical). Just the Valdada IOR Crusader 5.8-40x56FFP Mil/Mil with mount was $4000, that's just the scope and rings.
Get out and do some work how many cans have you picked up this week ?? I just paid for my NRA show travel in April with can money it can be done don't just say can't and give up !
ya i look at those prices and i rather make my part parts. Which in all fairness isn't "hard" to do, and you can actually get decent stuff made with a dremel (or basic tools), a caliper, effort, and time. But some stuff you'd still have to buy, for example a barrel which isn't as easy to make. Though as you can already tell the big factors in this route are you need to be willing to put in the effort and need a fair bit of time. Unless you having a mill and a lathe, then look at you mister I have it easy.
None of those prices are even close to what normal people buy. With today's market in ar parts it makes no sense to pay over 1k for a AR. All those optics you mentioned are top of the line optics but 98% of people don't pay that much. I built my piston AR for 650 bucks with all name brand parts. You can buy custom 22lr with bull berrels for 500-600. Building guns at those prices are just nutts for the everday person.
I wouldn't sand the receiver, first, put receiver in freezer, oil stock, insert. 2nd... take a pencil rub on the receiver, it will mark contact points. Sand a little, redo until the receiver slides in nicely. Smooth interface parts. You will hear and feel the difference.
That looked almost ridiculously easy. Begs a few questions though like how do you work out what is the best barrel for a specific job or a specific barrel/ammo combination? Or is it just experience?
when you do your group testing it would be nice if you include some bulk ammo thats a little easier to find. Thunderbolt, Fed auto match and possibly CCI mini mag. my 10/22 loves norma match in the white box.
In Czech Republic, i got three for 220 each, quite a nice catch taking in account they are now rare due to the fu....... EU imposing sanctions on Russia
better trigger. volquartsen or timney? and if I didn't have a few ongoing projects my Savage Mk 2 would be getting some love. but my ar15 needs finished as does my 300 WM.
Stopped by my local Gun Shop and they have this one plus the AR 5.56 for $699.00 for both. I already have a Savage.22 but for the money I'm considering it.
I can definitely see the attraction of a really accurate semi auto .22lr but for hunting? I'd rather take a bolt gun especially my Browning T-Bolt, plenty fast enough.
I have the PWS Summit T3 with the carbon Barrel. Very cool having the biathalon action. Super Quite w/ my silencerco sparrow, actions quite and fast etc. But I really like the barrel. Should come down to Atlanta from Blue Ridge and shoot them all together.
Id imagine you could use some washable marker or some type of non permanent coloring on your receiver, and when you slide your stock over, the transfer would outline your high spots for a more precise fit..... I know its a lot of work for a composite stock, but some people like to do stuff like that.
you don't have to spend that much. get a green mountain barrel and a volquartsen search and hammer. it will shoot 1/2" or better with good ammo at 50yds. less than $300
Benedict Benjo If you can achieve that please write a report with specific arguments used, footnotes and bibliography. Also included type and brand of body armor you wore to that meeting. If you fail have your widow send us funeral notices🍻
My 1000,- € custom built: - 10/22 stainless bull barrel (a bit heavy) - Tapco stock (cheap) - Sightmark reddot (cheap) - original reciever (polished) - original trigger group scores 97/100 on 25 meters standing! You don't need too spend THAT much to achieve precision!
What I would like to see is an "Internally suppressed barrel", something similar to the Benjamin Maurader .22 cal P.C.P. air rifle. I'am sure one can be produced in the .920" diameter configuration. Thanks for reading! Eric Dee.
The only thing Ruger on it is the BX-25 magazine, until Volquartsen makes a $60 mag that tightens groups up by
.000001 inch.
Very nice build. I'd like to see what you guys could do with a 10/22 for a budget under $500, then compare to the high end builds.
hangmn94 Just send your bone stock ruger 10-22 to Clark custom, they'll "blueprinted" voila!
I’m qqaa

It’s crazy that the resetting of the trigger click is louder than the actual round being delivered down range
Just got that trigger when I redid my 10/22 that’s been sitting for 17 years. That timney trigger is sweet & 110% worth it! I did use a Kidd bolt & it’s sweet!

Lately I've been not saying good stuff about your videos but I do enjoy them you guys have five stars from me. Great job
Man i miss Barry in these vids but you guys are still making some awesome content, cant wait for the 10/22 comparison later. keep it up!
thanks a bunch Chad! you DID give me some advice that will help make my build better. .specifically the torque settings on the takedown screw, and how that effects the barrel harmonics. can't wait to see your match build! (wonder if it's at all like mine;)

Love these videos. Well done Chad. Huge fan of the channel. God Bless!!
Two grand in a 10/22? Is it that much better than a $580 factory heavy barrel target model?
I really enjoy these type of videos where you have a gunsmith section and a shooting section. Good one guys , keep up the great work.
The "take down" bolt can put pressure on the barrel cause a preloaded spring effect in how the barrel vibrates. Maybe a rubber bushing is a good idea?
is this really a 10/22 anymore? The only thing stock is the magazine.
Jackson Curtis that's not really stock either... technically it's aftermarket also
Well it's still the 10/22 design, just not made with Ruger parts is all.
Kind of what I thought too.
You should do a full auto ruger 10/22 meltdown
10/22’s never die
@@danielzapien24 we'll see about that
It would probably take around 2 hours and 5k rounds 🤣
Do it!
18:22 I saw some slop in the bolt on the return stroke. Is that normal / acceptable in a high'ish end build. I am not wise regarding this so I am posing an honest question for those that think I'm trolling or hating. Thanks to Chad and Eric for another wonderful vid!
10/22 is probably the coolest rifle ever
Looking forward to chapter two on this particular rifle. Thanks for the great content.
This was such a great video. Awesome journey through basic gun smithing; I'm inspired to start tinkering. Thanks guys
Nice build and kept it simple.. I prefer the carbine myself over the bull barrel but that is just a personal choice. Great content. Hard to believe that they let it fly.
I hear people talk about the size of their shot group at whatever distance, and we always wonder how much of that is due to human skill or error. Ray Brensike that's actually a pretty interesting idea.
Aaron Harris
For me its a gun vice. Dang it.
A vice, set one in a couple vices
I think a great gun gripes/five guns video would be. "Clown killing/defense essentials". Since it is a big craze now.
The 10/22 is the greatest rifle of all time :)
Meh :) the 700 is nice but a boring bolt gun :)
A bolt gun would not be classified as a battle rifle.
Greatest .22 rifle ever. :)
way to diffuse the situation lol
weathearby mk5
I have been looking forward to this build. Makes it easy to understand just what you do and when.
The Blackhawk axiom stock is a great option for a build where weight is a factor plus the axiom is fully free floated.
You were right the firs time it is a socket head cap screw not a bolt. Good job Chad!!!
Nice video, I have enjoyed it , the old saying, the little things are the hardest to work on , but as we see in this video, you have proof that phrase wrong , in this built of this rifle, the 10-22 , Thanks again.
That scope is mounted way high brother. Dig the tension barrel, my PWS T3 has one.
wow your personal 10/22 is beautiful, nice job
Nice build! Looks good to me except for the Charging Handle. I personally like the one from Ruger better. I've got a old original Ruger 10/22 from back in the 1960's with the Alum. Butt Plate and the Barrel Band on it.
if I'm correct or not, I believe bolt sizes start at 1/4 inch an up. everything else smaller are screws. as in machine screws.
Since you used a Volquartzen receiver. What's the advantage of a Timney over a Volquartzen trigger group? Price is important but am looking for mechanical advantages. Thanks
Great video Chad, keep them coming!
Great video. It looks like it could us some lower rings to get that bell as close to the axis as possible.
With that scope, you could use medium height weaver rings, unless that puts it too low for the cheek rise.
looking forward to seeing the comparison
I'm a Ruger fan thru and thru (I own 4), but honestly my Marlin 60 will
shot rings around any 10/22 I've ever shot and it's not even close.
Pumkinvine how far do you have to be for it to make any difference at all? It you're plinking without a scope but as far as you can see, are you going to experience any inaccuracy?
Just a reminder, when changing or removing and re-installing a barrel; to use chamber gauges to check your head space before firing.
love these workshop video's. please make more!
Definitely want to see the 10/22 Comparison video between your 2 guns!
Perfect timing for this video! As I've been accumulating parts to build my own 10-22. I'm still undecided which stock and barrel manufacturer I will end up buying.
suppressor blends right in with that barrel nice build
Great video sir!
10/22 ALL DAY!!👍✅
Y'all should do an update video on y'alls 10/22 builds!
Very nice set up thanks . How about a gunsmith tool kit show , what was that little torque wrench.
This is a cool idea I would love a "build and shoot" video
i would love to see how far you can hit things with that set up.
next year i will build a 10-22 cost no care rifle. slap a nasty first focal plane on a 25 moa mount. delve into the "beaten zone" messing around with that "last catch"
I luv your guy's channel. I'm a Californian who luvs guns. I'm wondering if maybe you make a video of your 10 best Cal compliant guns and maybe a few tips of how to get around our horrible gun laws?
In future videos of this type could you list the components used in the drop down?
Great Video showing the simplicity of the 10-22 platform. Thanks Much!
nice build, but $2100 into a 22lr, Man I need your job or discount on parts!!
john S $2100 is 'cheap' considering a middle upper AR was over $5500+(inc. glass - Trijicon ACOG TA02-RM01) for me, and a precision long range rifle was in the $10,000+(inc. glass - Valdada IOR Crusader Tactical). That's one awesome rifle man. I have put together two 10/22 rifles using Magpul stock with all kidd Innovative design parts.
always good to have useful infos to built a 10/22 great video guys
I think the trigger reset was the loudest part of the rifle. Aside from the impacts with the steel, of course.
when you do your group testing it would be nice if you include some bulk ammo thats a little easier to find. Thunderbolt, Fed auto match and possibly CCI mini mag. my 10/22 loves norma match in the white box.
Kidd makes some NICE stuff to upgrade the 10/22..
Thanks for all you do. This was awesome.
I didn't even realise you guys got to 1 million subs!! Got anything cool planned for your 1 million subscribers video.
I admired the fact you drifted the pins left-to-right upside down! I would've drifted them wrong at that point
we Canadians are cryin. bring back the bx25s!
be grateful you have a 10/22
dont forget you promised to repeal the NFA, we trust you Don.
tyler111762
At least you Canadians have cheap $200 SKS still. Ours are like $400+ now. Boooo!
In Czech Republic, i got three for 220 each, quite a nice catch taking in account they are now rare due to the fu....... EU imposing sanctions on Russia
Volquartsen…
Is any part of it still Ruger?
better trigger. volquartsen or timney? and if I didn't have a few ongoing projects my Savage Mk 2 would be getting some love. but my ar15 needs finished as does my 300 WM.
Gotta love the 10/22, so much to play around with.
Money pit for sure.
Stopped by my local Gun Shop and they have this one plus the AR 5.56 for $699.00 for both. I already have a Savage.22 but for the money I'm considering it.
Hanif Ellis why did you not jump on that shit!!?
Daaaww Chads making Eric a gift xD
I've got a Ruger 77/22 that shoots great. Been thinking about getting a 10/22.
Nicely done. Good info and good recording technique. I didn't get motion sickness; thanks!
I've got a carbon fiber barrels on my 10/22 that I built. It's a damn tack driver. My most fun rifle I own.
I can definitely see the attraction of a really accurate semi auto .22lr but for hunting? I'd rather take a bolt gun especially my Browning T-Bolt, plenty fast enough.
Today I took apart my new 10/22 carbine and the receiver looks a bit different from yours and I know yours is a custom aftermarket part
I have the PWS Summit T3 with the carbon Barrel. Very cool having the biathalon action. Super Quite w/ my silencerco sparrow, actions quite and fast etc. But I really like the barrel. Should come down to Atlanta from Blue Ridge and shoot them all together.
Man Chad knows he can shoot!
Great vid! Looking forward to the shoot off.
Id imagine you could use some washable marker or some type of non permanent coloring on your receiver, and when you slide your stock over, the transfer would outline your high spots for a more precise fit..... I know its a lot of work for a composite stock, but some people like to do stuff like that.
Hey guys... I recommend a Kidd trigger if you have not tried one. It is awesome, and the price point is there. Super nice trigger...
That's a sick watch chad
Very nice built indeed. I am getting ready to changed out my 10-22 trigger unit to a lighter pull. Have you don't a show like that before?
I'm not sure $1200-$2000 in upgrades is really worth it to shrink groups from 1 inch to just under half an inch.
Especially for a simple .22 plinker
you don't have to spend that much. get a green mountain barrel and a volquartsen search and hammer. it will shoot 1/2" or better with good ammo at 50yds. less than $300
sear
My Marlin 795 with CCI mini mags does that right out of the box.
That's believable..
Great video; couldn't see how you put spring and guiderod together. Can all/most of this b done with a take-down model?
So how did you thread the barrel to the received. It is originally held on with two Alan screws.
Very excellent video guys. I really enjoyed it.
I own 2 ARS, 4 handguns, 2 shotguns but no .22 rifle. I think you've just convinced me to get one!
It's such a fun gun. The 25 round magazines are great. I like to save one until the one minute cease fire warning to just unload.
you wont be disappointed with a Ruger 10/22.
Is the process somewhat similar for a 77/22? I'd be interested in that set up or an american rimfire bolt gun.
Love my Stock 1022 sporter model from 1994 with weaver 4x scope.
This build might convince the Wife that a 10/22 takedown is a reasonable purchase
"May the court see exhibit A, the shoe closet..... I rest my case!" :)
Benedict Benjo If you can achieve that please write a report with specific arguments used, footnotes and bibliography. Also included type and brand of body armor you wore to that meeting. If you fail have your widow send us funeral notices🍻
Great video guys.
Thank you guys!! GREAT video.
My 1000,- € custom built:
- 10/22 stainless bull barrel (a bit heavy)
- Tapco stock (cheap)
- Sightmark reddot (cheap)
- original reciever (polished)
- original trigger group
scores 97/100 on 25 meters standing!
Eric Dee.
