Some British blues artists to take a look at. Don’t forget we put chapter markers in so you can cut out our waffle if you like! Let us know below what you think of the episode’s picks. Who do you think we should look at?
Great episode, both excellent guitarists, but I preferred Ben Poole's style more, I think I can hear his Dad's record collection in his playing, and I can hear Tony Joe White in his playing too, great guitar sound. West Country accents remind me of my home town, Salisbury. It wasn't that long ago that The Fabulous Thunderbirds played at The Globe and Dr. Feelgood used to play here too quite a lot. There were also a few decent local Blues Bands used to play the pubs around Cardiff and Penarth but not many bother with live music now, sadly.
Thanks for the comment Kevin. I think I’d (Jeff) come down more on Ben Poole’s side myself, I do like his playing a lot. Yes, definitely a raid on an older persons record collection. Salisbury to me means younger years, mucking about in beaten up Land Rovers when the flag is down on the plains 🙂
Great video chaps! I liked all featured artists especially Ben Poole (drummers included!). You say about blues influencers...is it me, or do UK artists need to define their own styles rather than be influenced? When British blues was at its heyday every band had a sound that was theirs...Free, Fleetwood Mac (ver 1 - Peter Green), Yardbirds etc. It was no doubt 'influenced' by roots, but never seemed borrowed. Anyways look forward to the classic UK band review. Let's see some of your playing in there guys, and demo the riffs, melodies and solos that made the tracks of our years! Talking about loving riffs, I recall a twelve bar blues band that were so famous for riffs they released an album called 'Riffs'. Shan't name them as that would be way too "unadventurous" ;-), Keep up the great work.
Thank you Mark, really appreciate the feedback. Apparently ‘great artists steal’, but there is an argument about perhaps borrowing too much 🙂 it’s a great conversation and we’d like to hear more from others on it. PS in my defence I didn’t criticise the drummer 😬 just some of he sounds of the kit. And that’s personal completely subjective stuff, don’t get me in trouble here… 😅
Aynsley Lister is my favourite British blues artist, but I'm also a fan of Ben Poole, Danny Bryant and Chantel McGregor. I've commented on posts to ask Aynsley Lister for a Welsh gig a few times in the last couple of years 😂 if I ask again he's going to think I'm a stalker, and block me 🙈 Joanne Shaw Taylor would be a good one to include in another video, I don't listen to her much, but like a couple of her songs 🤷🏽♀️🤔
That bridge does seem to get in the way of a lot of artists. The Tramshed has definitely helped, maybe that’s a place to start? It would be good to see more blues artists play in South Wales. We’ll take a look at your suggestions here too. Thanks Claire… 👍
@@TheBluesBox - The Tramshed is my absolute least favourite venue 😂😭 Might be a bit of a nicer experience with a not sold out Blues gig, but I couldn't even be bothered getting a drink when I went to see Skindred last year. Bar was five deep all night and you couldn't move in there. Thought I was going to pass out at one point, it's the warmest venue I've ever been in 🤣 I vote for Clwb Ifor Bach instead 💁🏽♀️
@@clairepaulkayam 🤣yeah, it was crazy hot last time I went… though we did get to the bar! Just down to determination and desire 😉 but I’ve seen some great artists I’m not sure would have come to Cardiff without it. So many never got further than Newport in the old days 😅 Barfly worked for a bit. Remember that one? I saw some brilliant bands there. Clwb Ifor was a staple though, that’s true…
Really liking these artists, could happily listen to more
We’ll definitely do this again… 👍
Nice video chaps. Will definitely be checking out Ben Poole, I like things a bit fuzzy. We need a blues scene in Cardiff.
Another fuzz fan! 👍 Steve needs more education on that one 🙂
Just heard that steve not only knows guitars but also custom motorcycles .
They say he has various choppers .
😅it’s a good job I know you…
My mistake not choppers, axes 😁

@@TheBluesBox I worked on the ranges as a camera man, lots travelling in Landrovers.
Don’t get me started on Land Rovers. Always loved them… the proper ones, not those new ‘Defenders’… 🙂
