    So how did you deal with:
    Siena allying with Austria and Pope
    Lucca allying with Genoa and Austria
    Ferrara allying with Venice, France and Pope
    Pope allying with Austria, France, Ferrara, Siena, Poland, Timurids and Ming
    Because this is the first month of every Florence start I've seen.

    • @ParaxisOfficial
      @ParaxisOfficial  7 років тому +258

      My answer? Pure luck. (And not setting Siena and Lucca as a rival)

    • @ParaxisOfficial
      @ParaxisOfficial  7 років тому +212

      Also, make your attitude towards Lucca and Siena friendly so they're less likely to join a trade league. Also, bring in baguette to crush Genoa and Venice (like I did), the French units are always the most OP early-mid game.

    • @ParaxisOfficial
      @ParaxisOfficial  7 років тому +179

      Oh yeah, and for Pope, you need a reasonable amount of luck for that as well. Not gonna lie, without southern Naples and the Mediterranean Islands, my run would pretty much have been 3x harder

      You know western civilization mostly comes from the Romans, right? Without Christianity, basically nothing different would have happened. Except for Northern Europe still believing in old religions and being slightly more aggressive. And maybe they wouldn't have ended up slaughtering the Native Americans of South America, but that's a good thing.
      The Romans before Christianity became state religion actually tolerated other religions, you know.

      The final Italian idea is coring cost reduction -25%. That is incredibly strong, when it is synergized with Admin ideas. From that you gain -50% coring cost reduction by the time you have finished three idea groups. That will save you a massive amount of admin points, but also if you go with Admin you get -10% to admin tech. I am currently doing a Italy playthrough and I literally went Admin, then Defensive and then Economic. One might think that it is a bit much to go with 2 admin idea groups early and I disagree especially as Italy, because you aren't going to expand that rapidly and when you do it should be through vassals.

    If I may make one suggestion, perhaps it would be prudent to pause the replay every so often to explain what is happening in your major wars. It adds to the story of your game and makes it easier to follow what is happening in the timelapse.
    These seem to be in a similar style as Dovska's timelapses, so I would suggest looking at some of the things he does for his. I wouldn't suggest going into near the depth he does unless you are really passionate about these videos, but adding some of the aspects he uses for his videos would definitely improve upon yours.

    How is this even possible... i tried this with milan and i suffered so much aggressive expansion that i could never take more than 2 provinces at a time without a coalition forming against me. At some point i was fighting the ottomans too, they were about the same size and i simply could never take more than 6 provinces from them. Here i see you taking like 15 provinces from the ottomans and 6 provinces from naples without any problems. Is there some strategy i am missing out on? i am quite new so i don't understand how you can take so many provinces without coalition.

      I mean napoleon did it and there was no internal strife or revolt except in spain, if it had not been defeated by russia and england it would have stood the test of time
      Hitler also conquered an even bigger ammount of european land, but he had constant rebellions and resistance absolutely everywhere, since unlike napoleon he was more about the whole "enslave or kill everyone" and less about the "let's give everyone rights and restore rome" thing that napoleon liked to do, so understandably the third reich was a lot less stable than napoleon's empire

      Another thing people don't consider is that even the ottomans is allowed to form rome, I think all they need to do is become christian, which can be done easily if you accept orthodox rebels after expanding in the balkans a bit early game, and it's the easiest way to form rome by far
      Start as ottoman, conquer a bit of balkan land, become orthodox, use your overpowered ottoman everything to conquer the roman land, become roman empire, then you get cursed stuff like "IMPERATOR THEODOROS OSMANULU THE SECOND" as your ruler XD

    • @SilenceOase
      @SilenceOase 6 років тому

      Humanist IS really good, but for runs such as these you'd need admin more, as -25% core creation cost is vital in creating large empires.

    • @anonymous-rb2sr
      @anonymous-rb2sr Рік тому

      @@Asmodaeus89 The roman empire will have around 4000 developpement, coring a province costs 10 admin mana per developpement.
      To core the entire roman empire you now need 40000 admin mana. The administrative idea group reduces coring cost by 25%. You now only need 30 thousand, instead of 40 thousand, by picking admin you get 10 thousand free admin points
      that's it, it's really stupid but a lot of the game design is
      Same reason innovative ideas are great if you planto play a long campaign, you get 10% tech cost on every tech
      a tech costs 600 mana
      there are 3 techs at each level, you begin at tech 3, you end at tech 32, so it's 29*3*600= 52 thousand mana
      So picking innovative gives you 5 thousand free mana points over the course of a full campaign
      Your main mana sinks will be either coring or deving, then tech, then ideas, so anything that gives discounts to those will save you a huge ammount of mana points
      For money, your main expense will likely be building buildings or upkeeping armies, so construction cost and unit costs modifers will save you a lot of money
      For manpower, if you play big empires, by far your biggest source of losses won't be wars, it will be attrition, so picking something as seemingly useless as attrition reduction can in reality save you upwards of 50 million men, depending on how big your empire is. Raw manpower modifiers are also good

    • @johncrofford
      @johncrofford 7 років тому

      Have you double-checked your army composition? I ask because mine tends to emphasize infantry even into the 1700s because it is generally better to have a large number of stacks that can operate independently and without taking huge amounts of attrition. Those stacks are incredibly weak against France or the Ottomans, though, because their stacks are always big enough to include significant artillery.
      If you find that your troops are just paper even in the best case, then you can always try sitting back and letting them bleed on your mountain forts until the problem is a little more tractable (i.e. someone else jumps them or their manpower simply runs out).

    • @anonymous-rb2sr

      EU4's france is way weaker than historical france, consider that in our timeline, austria got all of spain and burgundy, controlled the HRE completely unlike how the HRE works in EU4, and that on top of being constantly invaded from all sides by the HRE, burgundy, lowlands, Spain, Austria Hungary, and the United Kingdom, despite all of that France not only survived, but also GREW and took land, even though the habsburgs+UK spent 800 years trying to invade them.
      Resulting in France having more military victories than any other country on earth in all of history, so it's a given france should be strong, it's very historical

    How do you deal with AE? That shit was frustating for me.

    • @anonymous-rb2sr
      @anonymous-rb2sr Рік тому

      From his other comments he just cycled truces
      that means: he had massive AE (in the hudnreds), but was at war constantly, and attacks big countries the day his truce with them ran out (they need a month tick, and usually a few days after that to join a coalition after the truce expires, if you attack the day the truce runs out, they can never join a coalition)
      So you need to be at war with anyone that would join a coalition constantly, but on the plus side you can separate peace people, and you don't have a -50 warscore from a coalition cassus belly, that's what he did to survive
      There are only 2 ways to expand anyways, either you play nice, expand slowly, expand in different corners of the map at once to spread out the AE, stay bellow 50, and get a lot of improve relation/AE modifiers
      OR, conquer an entire continent at once, and accept that you'll have to fight neverending wars for the next 50 hours of gameplay, those are the only two ways to grow, either you spread AE and stay under 50, or you conquer an entire continent/religion at once (countries with a different culture/religion care less if you conquer foreigners, to the point you can basically conquer all of europe and north african muslims won't even join a coalition against you, this works everywhere, and vice versa)
      So in small regions, it's easy to conquer everything, like africa, central america, southern america, manchuria, japan, ireland/british isles
      "no country can join a coalition against you if there is no country left"
      that's the concept
