  • There are as many different routes to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra as there are musicians in this world-class ensemble. Every one of their stories is a unique embroidery of cross-cultural excursions in music, all coming together to form a tapestry of styles, expertise, and artistic expressions that constitutes the TSO. This Asian Heritage Month, we’re celebrating the members of our musical family that are of Asian heritage, both within and beyond the orchestra. This incredibly diverse population is an invaluable part of the TSO community, and is represented in various facets of our music-making. One member of this community is Kun Yan, Associate Principal Second Violinist of the TSO. Originally hailing from the Changsha region or China’s Hunan province, Yan’s journey to the TSO has been one of incredible dedication, motivated by a cosmopolitan spirit, and delivered through an exuberant musicianship.
