I just picked up this tele in the same color and I love it. I was actually looking at a few custom shop relics but this one felt every bit as good as the custom shop examples that I played and it was less than half the price. Overall, I think it presents very strong value when you look at it from that perspective.

Your discussion about the Tele neck pickup (scooped, like a Strat with some air let out) is right on. I've been trying to find and describe that tone, and I think you nailed it. At least that's what I look for. Can't wait to try one out.

After owning and then selling off many AV strats, I tied to like them , that 7 1/4 radius is not happing with me, I hate it, all my AV guitars were sold off due to it, so I was left with the srv Strat, and the Eric Jonson with the 12” , and I love that, still I wanted a vintage style Strat , the AO line did it for me, I have both Strat and tele, and both 50s and 60s, and I love them all.
Word on the street is fender is no longer making the AO line, I am personally set for life, but it’s a shame to see the line end. Was the best value under the custom shop.
My #1 guitar is my AO 50s tele, it runs don mare hot baklights, the neck tone you are talking about is a thing, I get what you are saying, don got me to that place in spades.
Honorable mention to the custom shop 51 nocasters, they were close, but dons neck pickup was a whole new level, to me the only thing lacking in the AO line, is pickups, the hardware, the woods, and finish , are screaming for better pickups, and tonal wise have more to give than with the pickups they come with……just my opinion.

I never got a chance to play the former AV series. However I own that exact same guitar you have in the video (LPB as well) and it is hands down the BEST guitar I've every put my hands on. It sounds better than every other Tele I own. Also that neck changed what I thought I liked in a guitar neck. It's fat but VERY comfortable. Now I can't even play my skinny necked guitars.

@@JackFossett I still can't do a Nocaster "U" but this is definitely not the same. There's a lot of taper in the neck. I measured mine as 0.84" at the 1st fret and 0.985" at the 12th.

They're also amazing guitars; just different. You saying the neck pick up has that scooped strat vibe with some air let out was definitly spot on. Tonecolor is a thing. This guitar sounds good because it is blue.

I've listened to a lot of american originals, and all of them resonate very well. However pickups sound very cheap. Lows aren't articulated, highs sound like breaking glass, midrange pumped around 3K so very hard sounding. Personaly, I think that american special telecaster (much cheaper guitar) is way better instrument.

I'd put some Don Mare pickups in that bad boy! The stock ones sound a little shrill.

Sounds great, but the neck isn’t parallel with the strings, look at the dots, on e string is closer to edge than the other

@@JackFossett I only know one riff as well. Next year I'll learn another. Until then I play riff over and over on my double bound 1985 Made in Japan Tele with the narrowest neck I could find. It's a 1962 spec reissue. Candy Apple Red with fret radius 7.25" Any knowledge or info on these Japanese Tele's? Pickup sound good or bad -- by experience or by reputation?
