Okay but where do we sign the petition to have Carly be a pilot?! You were killin it with that audition already!!
Hahahaha thank you!
Seriously, Disney/Lucasfilm PLEASE have Carly play a TIE Fighter pilot in a future Star Wars project! Or someone make a fan film and cast her as a TIE Fighter pilot!
BTW, love your enthusiasm for Star Wars and these amazing paintings by McQuarrie!
And, yes, Empire Strikes Back is also my favorite Star Wars film and look forward to seeing his paintings from it!
Also, that Seeker idea sounds sick and wish they would use that concept in a future Star Wars project!
Thanks for the video and sharing the beautiful paintings!
Miss King,
I don't know how closely you follow the comments on your videos, but I hope that you take the time to read this one, though it may be a little on the long side. I am slightly older than Star Wars, meaning that I essentially grew up in this galaxy, far, far away. There was no such word as "fandom" back then, when I went to go see these movies in the theaters, with my parents and my kid brother. That being said, you may actually be an even bigger Star Wars fan than I am!!!
I greatly enjoy your videos; your talent, your skill, your grace, and your unlimited enthusiasm for the universe is REMARKABLE. I love the lightsaber demonstrations, the unboxings, and the cosplays. Your smile is as infectious as your joy of all things Star Wars. I hope you keep making the videos and tik toks well into the future. The fandom needs a steward like you to keep it going.
As a young boy, it never once occurred to me that Star Wars might someday (hopefully many decades from now) outlive me, that I might not get to be a small part of that galaxy far, far away anymore. But knowing that there are young people in my own children's generation keeping the love, the joy, and the sheer enthusiasm for that mystical place alive well into the future gladdens my heart. It truly does.
May The Force Be With You, Miss King. Respect.
This is The Way.
This means the world to me... thank you so much ❤ May the force be with you!
I’m 52 and it warms my heart to see your generation appreciate the one thing that illuminated my generation and made us dream beyond worlds and galaxies. Thank you for this kiddo, you made my day. 😊😊 Love from France 🇫🇷… and as for THE Corellian Pirate ship, it did make the Castle run in less than 12 parsecs madamemoiselle. 😌😌
Thank you Carly for highlighting the king of getting Star Wars greenlit! This was so badass seeing a great homage to Ralph and of course you are a Gemini as I was born on the 11th of June and since I was 11 years old ever seeding the movie in the theater 36 times; I've been nuts about Ralph's work ever since I purchased my first book of Joe Johnston's Design Sketches of Star Wars. I would look at that book for hours per day and hoped one day I would be able to work on a Star Wars Film. I even went to art collage to try to get my foot in the door of ILM. I watched those movies so many times just to figure out "how did they do that!" and I wanted since a child to be a creator of sci-fi and Gothic/Fantasy worlds with my art. Ralph and Joe started me on that path of being a professional artist. So, thank you again as it warms my heart to see a younger person give credit where credit is due! I have all three of the portfolios myself. Yep, I was a Star Wars nerd long before it was cool as when I was young and dating, I didn't dare mention Star Wars or anything of that genre. LOL Now, It's THE cool thing to say. As an artist, I do many conventions as an Artist/Vendor sharing and selling my art. Thank you again for giving an older Artist - Hope. 🥲😊
my favorite is the Falcon approach to the Death Star hanger...that scene in the movie blew me away because the sheer scale of the Death Star seemed so real and the actual scene is almost identical to the painting
Missing Paintings:
1. First look of C-3Po and R2D2
2. Tusken Raiders with Banthas
3. Luke (at this point of story develoment as girl) at the Cliff looking at Mos Eisley
4. Luke fighting Darth Vader
5. Escape from Stormtroopers (Troopers with sword and shields, Han Solo in blue Outfit and with beard)
6. X-Wing and Tie-Fighter in Death Star trench
Wow history! Everything about Star War 1 & everything is Soo Awesome 😎👍🏾
I’ve always admired his creations and designs! They are truly amazing! The force was certainly with him!
thank you so much for this...for taking your time, for giving the artwork the attention it deserves, and for being such a positive beautiful light in this world 🙏🏻💐...it was like a fireside chat...really special 🥺
Really enjoyed this look at the artwork, thanks Carly.
I love ALL Ralph McQuarrie paintings! R.M. *rocks*! Having been 4 years old in 1977 when the first film was released, it's so wonderful seeing such passion from today's generation appreciating the aesthetic beauty behind all-things Star Wars! Great Video! :)
Okay... I'm a little jealous now. This is a great find!
Way to exhume those artifacts, so exciting!
That's a hell of a Holiday gift! Awesome 🤘
That is fantastic! Right chuffed for your Dad that he found those for you ! I'll watch this video later. Thanks👌
I had the ROTJ ones on my wall as a kid (with matching wallpaper and sheets). They were rad!
Saw some of these at “Star Wars: Launch Bay” in Hollywood studios. They are amazing paintings if you take the time to appreciate them and the canon versions of them today that they helped create.
what a find! they are BEAUTIFUL - really shows the amount of effort and creativity that went into the stars wars series :)
The portfolio’s are awesome collectibles. Congrats Carly.
this is EVERYTHING OMG.
Those are absolute GAS! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Carly is absolutely stunning 😍
I can think of no one else deserving this amazing collection, you dear are strong in the force.
Ralph Mcquarrie he is the legend man
He truly is
So many of MacQuarrie's original concepts that weren't used for Star Wars endded UK being later used in the cartoons or tv shows. For instance, the original Chewie concept was then used a Zeb in Rebels.
I had these in 1977. I got the Star Wars portfolio for Christmas that year! I still have them.
I still have the portfolio since it came out.
this lady should host a UA-cam Star Wars fan event she is a true professional a real gem for UA-cam
Princess Leia honoring rebel alliance is my favourite.
I just had deja'vu when you put on the rebel pilot helmet. Reminded me of the unboxing video on it...
Some awesome art and looking gorgeous Carly
I'm fascinated by concept art and Ralph's artwork for SW is what started it all.
Thank you for sharing this. This is epic stuff. Lucky girl!
McQuarrie's designs are iconic and without him Star Wars as we know it would not exist. His designs have consistently influenced the visual language of Star Wars for many decades. I have a few large print McQuarrie posters in my bedroom along with loads of other SW memorabilia. I think the original paintings might be in the Lucasfilm archive aka. Star Wars Nirvana. This portfolio is really cool!
If you like Star Wars ships, I highly recommend the Rogue Squadron game series. The second and third game are only on the Gamecube currently (although emulators do exist), but the original is on Steam. There is a character in that game who starts out as a Tie Interceptor pilot who changes sides and joins Rogue Squadron to help Luke Skywalker and team.
Great video!
Looking at it now, it is hard to gauge how big of a leap it would have been for them to go with whatever the artist's designs went, rather than stick to what they knew they could do.
I saw the first 3 movies when I was a kid in the theaters. I was so young, that I would have been like, "okay, this is what they did."
Rather than knowing how advanced the production was.
Ralph McQuarrie might not be here physically, but his soul and impact to the Star Wars films is beautiful.
Your energy and beauty is equally awesome in all of your videos.
What an awesome haul, its so cool to see the art work from back then. Great video, and you are too cute with alll the excitement, kudos to your Dad for picking up some really cool HISTORIC Star Wars stuff.
A most prestigious collection 😎
McQuarrie is such a legend, they are so beautiful. how soon will you have them framed and on your wall Carly?
I have one from ‘77 as well…before the name change to A New Hope…bought in ‘77 or ‘78. For Christmas this year I got the two book clothbound set “Star Wars Art: Ralph McQuarrie”
The first appearance of A New Hope was in the public draft of the screenplay in the art of Star Wars. I believe in 1979 long before 1981 when it appeared on film.
What you have in your hands. Is priceless.....the imagesian of the graites story of all time ....if we still here in 3000 years ...people will still hear ...darth vaders breath!!!
I remembered seeing those art concepts... I missed seeing it as a kid. 🎨
Excellent video as always Carly. You're the best!
I have the Star Wars Portfolio. I purchased it in 1977. I remember going through them when I got it. It was amazing!!!! Enjoy!!! Do you have the Joe Johnston's Star Wars Sketchbook? My favorite is the TIE fighter firing at Han Solo's Corellian Pirate Ship. Happy New Year!!!
what a fine addition to your collection!
I would love to one day work alongside you Carly!! ❤
I had a set of these back in the late 70’s. Long since lost - would love to find another set.
I had the Return Of The Jedi and my mother was doing some house cleaning and said what for would you need this and squashed it and throw it out,I was like man these is gone be worth fortune in the future.I really like those drawings the best I ever seen!
The Empire Strikes Back is my favourite as well, on that Ice Planet made imaginations go Crazy. George Lucas was a fcukin Genius.. when you think these Films never Age
Whoa, I still got mine. Whenever the first one came out, it was a present from "Santa" when I was a youngling. Great memories! Thanks Carly! :)
Thank you for showing this concept art! I love seeing the early ideas for the film that changed everything and how either these have been evolved to the final concepts, or they have been used much later. For example, it is curious to see that Lasats were conceived before Wookies.
If I had to choose, I would say the illustration with the rebel ships approaching the death star, the perspective with the laser cannon is amazing! (The chosen one! 😄)
May the force be with you! 😊
i like the cat behind her :D
I was wondering if these would be the full sets, but ah well. They're very cool!
I really liked the Tie Fighter one. Seeing the cockpit view, I can hear the cockpit sounds just looking at it. Thanks for sharing!
Okay but that's amazing
Thank the Mortis For you Miss King......I think you would rock a Pilot role be sick to be a Twi'lek pilot or some other race that has hightened abilities
I have to say, I'm a proud owner of both of these books. Beautiful pieces
thank you for explaining who Ralph McQuarrie was I didn't know who he was, I also hope you find the missing paintings Carly
La grande classe !! Best regards from France 🙂
awe lol thats such nice calm Tatooine bar music, reminds me of home lol
Fox only gave the greenlight because of Ralph's production paintings and Colin's prototype models. A good investment on Lucas part. He took all the money he made on Graffiti after paying back some debts and reinvested it into Star Wars.
Hey Carly, the mos Eisley cantina concept is gotta be my favorite. 🙌🙌💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
My dad has all three sets too, I have looked at them many times growing up
This is where the fun begins. 🙌🙌💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
McQuarrie was a legend so far ahead of his time. You are so dreamy, I wish the universe made more women like yourself
This was SOOOOOOO COOL. WOW. Thankyou and thank your dad for sharing these.
Carly: *Wants to be a pilot*
Me: "Oh, that sounds pretty sick!"
Carly: *Wants to be a Tie Fighter pilot*
Me: "...I dunno...most of the ones we saw were only a few weeks away from retirement, if you catch my drift."
You nerding out on Ralph McQuarrie concept art! LOVE IT! Now film dad's reaction! Happy Holidays.
I have the exact same one. Lost a couple of the pages when it was loaned to a friend many years ago .
I want those sooo bad
Great video Carly and thank you for sharing
Amazing score! When you get that Empire Strikes Back portfolio the circle will be complete. I lucked into the Abrams Complete Ralph McQuarrie 2 book set and it's beyond AMAZING 😮 Just a mind-boggling amount or work he did for these films 🙏
I have the same one! 😊
Drew Struzan is my favorite artist because he did the original and prequels movie posters for Star Wars and I wish he did it for the sequel ones, I would’ve liked his take on it. He could’ve put the knights of ren in but I believe there was a take of his art style for a poster/reusable bag that I have. Overall he also did a lot of the year’s movie posters like Indian jones, blade runner, Harry Potter, hook, hell boy, the thing, back to the future, etc.
Thats so cool. Just found a hardcover collection on Amazon. Might have to pick that up after watching the video 😄
Super Rad!
Nice Rebel pilot helmet and graphics.
Ending the year with a banger 🔥
it was interesting that he mentioned about the Nassai warriors in the picture of the new hope medal ceremony as they set during the what's known as the old republic , hyper space war with the true red skinned sixth i believe where Naga sideo fled and XRkun travelled to use them as his warriors to Yavin 4 as well its interesting he maybe created the beginning of the Old republic lore with this picture
I watched star wars when i was 6, and i still love watching
same!
Yea, dad’s got it together.
The passion ❤ Such a great video!
not sure which one I got but I think I have one of these at home.. got to check it! 😅👍🏼
I’m jealous
Love them all!
these are so dope definitely worth adding to the collection haha
Definitely a fine addition to my collection
Happy new years Carly King l love star wars history it's so cool
Yayyyyy Carly’s channel just got even better! Love Star Wars books!!! I have a whole shelf. The art and bts ones are incredible! I would love if you would talk about more! There are very few channels that review them
I hear that the Star Wars archives vol 1 and 2 XL edition have a lot of information including George Lucas's version of the sequel trilogy, and how it was supposed to be.
The paintings may be in London on a Star Wars exhibit.
i agree i like the one u like :)
Keep up the great work
Did I hear you right, that you’d want a house to look like a Death Star hangar? Big open spaces? Or would that be your garage for your many land speeders, er, cars.
I’d literally give anything to meet Ralph mcquarrie 😢
Same
Bonsoir Carly King, et Bonne année à tous
I used to have all three. But there was a water leak in my closet where they were stored and...in the trash they went. So bummed. Luckily I got his book.
I had this as a kid and lost it. 😢
You're perfect. Great vid
The 2 most important persons in Star Wars. Lucas & McQuarrie. Lucas created the Story and Ralph created a whole universe. I often think about the possibility that McQuarrie was never hired by Lucas. What would Star Wars look like? I think Star wars would look and certainly feel completely different.
If you think about it, thats a lot of power such an concept artist has.
Still have mine from 1978
