On the three rollers, the Audi only managed to get off because the driver was slewing the wheel until it touched the edge of the rollers. Quattro is a good AWD system, but Suzuki's is a true off-road system that will tackle much more than simply a snowy lane.
Thanks for the comparison test. The Vitara beats the Q2 in this test. The Q2 struggles but with ESP off it still manage to pass the test including the 1-wheel. Not all AWD cars can pass the 1-wheel test. The Quattro does the job, the AllGrip does it better. Also, the Vitara is much cheaper car and well equipped, whereas with Audi you have an endless option list and that easily makes +10k€ if you want ti tick all. Vitara does not have the premium feel of Audi, its interior feels cheap (especially the plastic) and the on-board computer is completely outdated. But it has all the usual and modern equipments, making it a much better value for money in the end.
No it didnt. What planet did it pass that test? Driver had to turn the steering wheel back and forth to get off them sideways. Q2 completely failed the one wheel test

Lock mode (differential lock) is a great advantage for all models AllGrip Suzuki. Many prestigious SUV dont have this secret weapon, including german and swedish cars. Lock mode is on until 60 km/h, after, the mode snow/mud continue automatiquely.

...Common, the only reason I have a vitara is because I don't have money for the audi. The ratio price/quality is better in Suzuki, but the Audi is safer and a mile away in comfort. Still, I like my vitara, managed to go on some places where i wouldn't dare to do it with an audi.
samurai uses classical locked diff for 4wd/4x4 whatever (in reality, there's no real or different names for four wheel drive, every manufacture have their own, please check that once for all, it's just branding). vag have something similar with their synchro 4wd drive, it's archaic, but does the job on real off road etc. audi torsen (torque sensing) is very efficient in higher speed /revolution in snow etc imo, it's not designed to be tractor with gigantic wheels and slower rpm in 1 meter of mud. as for real world 4wd use for normal use in normal family cars , today's technology is just fine, it's fast, responsive etc, only maybe not that strong (but again, we're not talking about real off road here). as for me, some audi avant with mechanical torsen 4wd is still best overall pick in average car with 4wd. i don'r want that stupid suv cornering, i want agile, fast cars which can deal also with some snow/md etc, and maybe tow some trailer/boat for summer. suv's are mimic, imo. if you want true off road car, get one. if not, any normal car with any modern electronic 4wd will be just as good.

Interesting as I just watched another video where the person mentioned that a Audi car with a Quattro 4x4 system struggled on a steep mountain hill when it was snowing and ice on the ground. He even mentioned that BMW xDrive (535 series) struggled as well whereas the Vitara had no problems getting up on these conditions covered with snow. The guy Tom (uses the name TomKentMusic on his channel) was suprised and so fascinated by the car that he ended up doing two reviews of the Vitara online on youtube. At least I know that this car can at least do somethings that BMWs can't. Having said that I have driven the BMW X5 before and it was no different to the Vitara in the way it drives. Personally I would liked to have seen Vitara V Range Rover Evoque roller test in order to see which AWD system is better. The expensive one or the least expensive one as Vitara has already proven a point that it is better than Audis and BMWs 4x4 system.
The only way to get better AWD cars is to promote the work of such channels. I put links to this channel on Facebook during discussions or when I see an ad with "best SUV" and the likes. Do it, such tests of a Swedish magazine has influenced Honda - they reprogrammed AWD system for CRV there, although the same ugly config has come with the newer model. Keep on doing it, down there in Poland ! :)

The Vitara AllGrip Select is tested alot against other cars. Is there a reason for this? We couldn't compare the AWD system of a Jimny or Land Cruiser as they are genuine off roaders against the new Vitara but as a Crossover which is what it is - is it the best within this car segment?

Please enlighten me. The audi is 4x4 but have no differential lock, while Suzuki's all grip technology has. That's why when 3 wheels are slipped, Suzuki performed better. Is that right?
Not exactly. Both cars do not have center differentials but multiplate clutch packs. Very similar type of awd systems, power is shifted from front to back. In Suzuki it is possible to use LOCK option, but that is not a locker, that just locks the system to permanent. In all other modes system is constantly monitoring the conditions and swithcing between 2wd and 4wd. Suzuki performed better due to more traction oriented awd software.

Some foresters electronic system work better than even some lockers out there...ive seen Foresters get through places where even a Land Cruiser got stuck...

I have suzuki gl+ at 4x2 and I must say it doesn't give me confidence while driving after 80km/h. It's too light and it feels like it will out of control while speeding up. but great results on roller test, congratz!
Audi has been cheap with their AWD systems on lower end vehicles like the A3 and below which use a Haldex based system. You better switch to Torsen based Quattro like the A4 and above
It's not surprising, the Audi uses a Haldex differential, tuned for safety, while the Suzuki is using a locking differential tuned for off road. The bigger Audi models have Torsen differentials, they are for proper off roading.
@@eddgrs9193 Nope, there is no locking differential in Suzuki. In fact, it is almost the same type of awd system that in Audi, just different type of multiplate clutch. And torsen differential is not proper for offroad.
@@4x4.tests.on.rollers Torsens are very good for off road. I climbed rocky terrain with an A6 allroad where a Land Rover Discovery couldn't go, we had to leave the Discovery down the slope. The Hummer H1 and many other 4x4 vehicles also have Torsen diffs.
@@eddgrs9193 You wouldn't go anywhere without the help of electronics. One wheel in the air or with zero traction and you are going nowhere. That's how torsen works. Hummer has torsens at front and rear (T2) cause they are much stronger than open diffs, but still the same problem - that is why they added traction control later. Other vehicles like Pajero, L200 or Landcruiser have torsens which you can permanently lock.
I think a very common mistake is throttle management. The driver should keep their foot steady on the throttle pedal and let the car distribute the power how is sees fit. There shouldn’t be fluctuation in the pedal pressure

Vitara is a popular car and it is an example of budget car with very well tuned awd system. I don't know if the best but definitely one of the best.

What mode was the vitara set to? Does the audi even have a diff lock?
You can see the driving mode on the bottom-left side of the screen. Audi doesn't have diff lock.

@@eddgrs9193 Nope, there is no locking differential in Suzuki. In fact, it is almost the same type of awd system that in Audi, just different type of multiplate clutch.
And torsen differential is not proper for offroad.
@@4x4.tests.on.rollers Torsens are very good for off road. I climbed rocky terrain with an A6 allroad where a Land Rover Discovery couldn't go, we had to leave the Discovery down the slope. The Hummer H1 and many other 4x4 vehicles also have Torsen diffs.
@@eddgrs9193 You wouldn't go anywhere without the help of electronics. One wheel in the air or with zero traction and you are going nowhere. That's how torsen works. Hummer has torsens at front and rear (T2) cause they are much stronger than open diffs, but still the same problem - that is why they added traction control later. Other vehicles like Pajero, L200 or Landcruiser have torsens which you can permanently lock.

Quattro is VERY Nice.
I think a very common mistake is throttle management. The driver should keep their foot steady on the throttle pedal and let the car distribute the power how is sees fit. There shouldn’t be fluctuation in the pedal pressure
Correct but fluctuations are always caught by the system itself.

@@fixanddrive Zależy, o jakim modelu mowa. Jest kilkanaście rodzajów Quattro, w tym przypadku to Haldex. 10-15 lat temu też był stosowany.
