      +Toron Just study a field of engineering somewhat related to space exploration, and take it from there.
      I'm studying electrical engineering myself, primarily because robots and automation etc, but if i ever got the chance to apply as an astronaut, i'm going to make sure i'm prepared.
      I basically tick all the requirements to apply, as i got my bachelor degree this summer.

    • @WannabeMarsanach
      @WannabeMarsanach 8 років тому

      IchBinEin Aerospace engineering is what i'm going for in Uni, but before that i'm probably going to do a level 2 mechanical engineering course.

    • @ichbinein123
      @ichbinein123 8 років тому +1

      Toron
      Awesome, but just a friendly advice; Aerospace engineering is one of the trickier fields of engineering. It's a good idea, as you said, to do some courses beforehand but it's not at all required. Enthusiasm gets you a long way.
      In reality, aerospace engineers are just specialized mechanical engineers with some complementary physics and fluid dynamics etc.
      Most technical universities don't even offer Aerospace engineering as a specific path, but rather just offer it as supplementary courses for other engineering paths, and are often just a part of your masters.

    • @WannabeMarsanach
      @WannabeMarsanach 8 років тому

      IchBinEin I am defiantly interested in Aerospace engineering, so difficulty doesn't matter to me, and there are plenty of technical uni's i've seen offering it as it's own standalone course.

    The original quote, as related by Jerry Pournelle is (courtesy of www.projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/surfaceorbit.php):
    Mr. Heinlein and I were discussing the perils of template stories: interconnected stories that together present a future history. As readers may have suspected, many future histories begin with stories that weren't necessarily intended to fit together when they were written. Robert Heinlein's box came with "The Man Who Sold the Moon." He wanted the first flight to the Moon to use a direct Earth-to-Moon craft, not one assembled in orbit; but the story had to follow "Blowups Happen" in the future history.
    Unfortunately, in "Blowups Happen" a capability for orbiting large payloads had been developed. "Aha," I said. "I see your problem. If you can get a ship into orbit, you're
    halfway to the Moon."
    "No," Bob said. "If you can get your ship into orbit, you're halfway to _anywhere_."
    He was very nearly right.

    Saying something is hard to do isn't a reason for someone to not take the initial leap to do it. Regrets are real. Trying is far better than thinking about the 'woulda, coulda, shoulda' when you're 55 years young and remain a loyal employee to McDonald's for the last 16 years. Nothing in life is just handed to you, you take a step towards it. And as cheesy as it sounds, you make your own dreams come true, whether that be an astronaut or an aspiring entrepreneur. My UA-cam is very dull, but that might be because I'm going to school for my degree in astrophysics, possible aeronautics. I have a question for everyone who's even remotely interested in outer space, the solar system, other galaxies, or even becoming a cosmonaut. Do you believe in the soon to be mission to Mars? How do you feel about it? What do you feel will come out of this mission?

    The SCUBA certification is due to the neutral buoyancy training. Just like the vomit-commit, it is the chance to see how the astronaut candidate will react in microgravity, therefore, both methods of learning are important for astronauts to use.
    At the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, ALB, there is/was a tank that had a full scale Shuttle Bay (STS), and the pool was 60 feet across (the size of the bay) and 100 feet tall. Astronautic candidates trained in his facility and it best helped them to prepare for space travel, manipulation of tools in that environment, and becoming comfortable in the suits for when they would be performing Extra-Vehicular Activities (EVAs).
    Best wishes,
    Brennan

    What I'm Going To Do Is Think Of An Adventure. It As A Preparation For A Mission. So All Week I'm Getting Myself Physically And Mentally In Shape.
    Upping My Workouts.
    Altering My Nutrition Plan. Minimizing To That Of What Astronaughts Consume.
    Preparing For Op One Has To Have Lite Meals. Very Similar.
    This May Be Normal To Some.As For Me It's New.

    Just a nitpick: the Mercury mission didn't have the first people go into space. That would be a Soviet program.
    Just a nitpick. I'm sure you're aware of that.

    You didn't understand the scuba requirement. How could you, when doing your research miss the swimming pool where they do all that weightlessness training??? Aka the "Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory".

    I want to be an Astronaut and go to space, float around, be in a space shuttle and space rocket, be in the International Space Station, do a spacewalk and space repair, walk on the moon and on mars and wear boots, space suit, headset and space helmet with a visor
    Ground control to Astronaut William Fairchild in space
    Ladies and Gentleman the eagle has landed
    It's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind

    I think that one of the reasons why they would need to scuba train inside of their suits would be in case they have to reenter over the ocean.

    Swimming is not for space... One of the risks is that the shuttle crashes into water (around 72% change :)).
