"I'd show that words of love in another language can be read as a battle plan. So I'd turn wars into carnivals and fists into hands to make musical instruments out of killing tools." I love this part! This guy is amazing!
I have spent 45 minutes of life, hunting for this poem, I have clicked on everything with a similar theme, everything with the same camera angle. But I got here, and it was worth it.
"I would turn Koraans into Bibles, Bibles into Koraans, to show that words of love in another language could be read as a battle plan" that is just beautiful, truly beautiful.
Alejandra Bermudez Koraans are like bibles but for Muslims, they're usually written in Arabic. Someone who doesn't know arab/Muslim culture and language might misinterpret words of love to words of war, and vice versa. He's basically saying he wishes we would make more of an effort to understand one another on a deeper level, cause we're really not that different. Hope that helps x
That's what these poets do, they cast out their shiniest lure that smacks your laugh track into a spinning whirlpool of immeasurable coolness based on the bliss of their words; they kiss your obscured interpretation of indignation so it adheres to the sharpness of the stainless steel that pulls you from the depths into a new world of impossible livability that to which you are held up to the illuminated light, that's right! You were a trophy, brought on by his delight.
SO I thought I had listened to this before on youtube then I realised I SAW IT LIVE IN MY CLASS BECAUSE HE GRADUATED FROM MY SCHOOL AND MY TEACHER GOT HIM TO COME TO OUR CLASS AND TALK ABOUT POETRY.
9 years later and so many things have changed, but my affliction for this poem hasn’t. This is masterfully crafted and the words have stuck to me like honey since I first listened. When I’ve been down on myself, the second half of this reminds me how joyous the mundane can really become through the right lens. Thank you Mr. McAlinden
Did he just wake up? He acts like I do after I wake up! 1: Funny poem. 2: The guy is very attractive. VERY attractive. 3: Why are these poets all amazing?
"Words of love in another language can be read as a battle plan." This is brilliant. This guy is fantastic. He's funny and entertaining and realistic and he knows how to get a point across. This is spectacular.
AT 10:31am with nothing but bad oatmeal in my gut and 72 houes or anxiety-ridden sleeplessness on my brain this man's words pushed me up and out of sloth. From open to mid to end, it was worth rewatching and absorbing an upteenth time.
So manic in such a beautiful way. That panic, paranoia, raving. That is the poem, and it's remarkable. There's something of Rives in the word play, which I dig.
In all fairness, your essay is about a poem I wrote. But I understand if you dont want to share it with me. However, I would really love to read your essay on it. I'm very flattered that you would use my work as the subject of a piece of academic writing.
He looks like the most interesting person in the whole entire world. Holy shit, what I would do to be even half as interesting and talented as this dude
He is crazy in the most beautiful way. I also would like to put this out there recklesstenacity I'm right there with you I MUST STOP FALLING IN LOVE WITH POETS OVER THE INTERNET. But then again... I must not tell lies ;)

The ending surprised me i didnt think this was a very serious poem but he shocked me when he closed it up

"Words of love in another language can be read as a battle plan."
This is brilliant. This guy is fantastic. He's funny and entertaining and realistic and he knows how to get a point across. This is spectacular.
Can you explain to me what that line means? Im a bit confused on it.
If I was a fan of poetry, I'd leave a comment expressing how good this was...
His energy is magnificent. The world he paints of love and peace and acceptance is beautiful.

I aspire to be a poet like him
This guy is so intense. I fuckin' love it.
Thank you for saying out loud the ideas we all seem to share--or like to convince ourselves we do, and the hypocrisy that is universal in us all.
He has this crazy expression to him, but he speaks with so much passion and expression-- woo, what a performance.
Absolute favorite piece of slam poetry. This guy is amazing. I've seen some of his other works...unparalleled.
He looks like the most interesting person in the whole entire world. Holy shit, what I would do to be even half as interesting and talented as this dude
"Changing telephone booths into teleportation points" IS THIS A REFERENCE TO THE TARDIS?
Calm down it's Harry Potter
It'd make sense, since he looks a hell of a lot like David Tennant...
Antinous Wynn No, Harry Potter never had teleporting telephone booths. Neither did Doctor Who.
Victorialily, Doctor who definitely did considering the TARDIS was capable of teleportation.
Random Throwaway, Harry Potter never had such a thing. the only telephone booths were transports to the Ministry; they weren't teleportation booths.
This is how I like my people, like really
Lovely as ever. As a Catholic I must say I agree. Such a wonderful piece
all time favorite.
I can't like this enough....
this is made so much better by his facial expressions
This has to be one of my favorites.
His outlook on life! Amazing!!!
Love this poem, I've watched this video at least 20 times. :)
