In hardcore (for obvious reasons), the places that you mentioned, the nock gun does better. (I am a hardcore nock gun fan, both ways to interpret this are correct)

Only load 1 to 2 bullets for small lines of zombies or zappers, loading anymore bullets are only necessary if you're playing higher waves in endless and its great in hardcore
At most load 3 barrels. Unless it’s Endless or you find yourself with a lot of free time, you shouldn’t be loading all 7. Nothing ingame rn has enough HP to warrant it. Also, the Nock in my experience is just as accurate as the Musket, even with two or three barrels loaded. I could reliably snipe Zappers and Igniters from afar with it. The thing was my Rifle before the Rifle came out with its pinpoint accuracy and extra damage.
It’s still better than the rifle. It takes about 11 seconds to reload one cartridge way better than the rifle unless you’re actually using the 1500 range
And I know people are going to say about it still gets damage reduction for zapper for headshot, but that’s really the only disadvantage those 55 more damage basically range of a musket
