Probably the toughest 2nd round I've ever seen, so many top guys went 5 sets. They're really being tested.

    • @SJ-di5zu

And not even through bad play. Almost all of the top contenders have been tested besides Sinner. Qualifiers and lower ranked players are playing incredible tennis right now, yet the top 11 players besides Rune keep finding ways to survive.

@@SJ-di5zuThat's how sports evolve over time. Outside top 20 players are much better than the past. But not necessarily the elite group.
Nowadays the slam contenders were as weak as 01-05, except the one guy at the top for both. The ELO rating shows this.

I caught this match when Ruusuvuori was 2 sets to 0 up... and it was around 1:45 AM Melbourne time. I thought, surely Medvedev doesn't have thoughts about mounting a comeback at this stage, that would be insane. Well, he's not my favorite player, but much respect to Meddy's madness b/c he did the unthinkable.

Emil is very close to breaking out. He has to have more conviction moving forward, especially against someone like Daniil. It was clear in the 5th set that Emil's legs were done. He has all the shots. It's the consistent mentality now.

Poor Emil wanted to go to bed. 😮 I watched the first two sets and thought that the match was over. I turned it off, can’t believe it.

Those night sessions until 4 am are disrespectful for players and must stop. You can prepare yourself the best way possible, but human body is not made to be at its best at that time of the day. For economic reasons, the quality of the game and the health of the players are sacrified. Great job Medvedev for his fighting spirit in such conditions ; lots of players would have let it go.

It seems absolutely crazy to me that top-tier professional tennis players (or any other athletes for that matter) would be expected to compete starting after 11:00 PM and ending several hours later. How nuts is that?

Disgraceful having a match with this calibre of players so late. It's not fair on them. There's nobody there to even watch it. What the hell is going on.

Emil's pace declined so much after the 3rd set. Shld have just stuck to his guns and vaporise the ball like he did first 2 sets. Tho maybe he was too wore down to have the energy.

Why don't they show the Russian and Belarusian flag? Are the players aware of this?
