My 2006 (gen2) Tacoma tailgate has totally different bushings. They don't break up...don't look deformed, but I admit I'm currently chasing a longstanding issue where the tailgate release barely works, seems to stick on the catcher-Ushape until I whack the gate while releasing... but I can't determine which side(s). At the moment instead of wondering if a slightly worn bushing is making the gate sit a bit low, I'm messing with the actuator rods (long metal rods, one on each side) bending them to make them effectively shorter.
Had to do the same on my '17. It was pretty easy. The hardest part was telling the dealer what i needed. They kept telling me the truck didn't come with it, or it should be some sort of shock. So i walked them over to some tacomas in there lot and drop the tailgates and there faces were like 😮

Nice, have not seen anyone cover this!
@@donaldstogner9518 you’d think it’s such a common issue someone would have by now!
I just put a new one on my 2021. The part cost about 10 bucks and you don't need to take the tailgate off.
@@keithboyd5489 you definitely don’t but you get a better picture of what’s going on.
Detailed, Outstanding video
@@johnpoirier2398 thanks John! 🍻
Any updates on ott winner?
@@joegonzalez5602 check your email brother, I just announced the drawing for tomorrow 😎
Can this be retrofitted to a 2nd Gen tailgate?
@@daveweber9737 ooooh…. Maybe? Haven’t owned a 2nd gen in a MINUTE… do you use a bushing like this…?

@@dougmildram3032 sounds like you got a little project in your hands 🤕
I fixed this problem very easily by never opening my tailgate. Works like a charm

@@xxtwobitxx I’d like to say I’m shocked… but I’m not. Dealerships being goofs per usual 🤦♂️
I have a 2021 Tacoma. I am curious as to why there is a camera wire connected to the tailgate?
@@vario2664 👋 for the camera!
@@teamoildrop But the camera is in the bumper.
