Oyotsu is an unremarkable young girl. She is subject to bullying at school and her parents are not exactly loving.
She falls in love with Kaishin, a young monk from Enshū.
Kaishin, far from being blind, was aware of this, and struck up a conversation with her to gain her trust.
Once this was established, they decided to run away together and enjoy their youth.
But Kaishin's love wasn't sincere.
On the evening of their elopement, the monk took her to a remote wood to rape, torture and kill her.
Some time after this tragedy, Kaishin returned to lay life.
One full-moon evening, at an inn, he meets a young woman. They get to know each other and end up sleeping together. During the night, the girl's neck stretches and her face transforms into that of Oyotsu, who shares her feelings, despair and hatred before disappearing...
The next day, Kaishin, overcome with remorse, tells everything to the innkeeper's daughter's father. Yohei, the girl's father, confides in him.
He reveals that he had also killed a woman in the past, stolen her money and used it to set up the inn. His daughter, born afterwards as a result of karma, naturally became a rokurokubi.
To avoid a curse of any kind, Kaishin rejoined the Buddhist priesthood and built a burial ground for Oyotsu. But it was too late... Oyotsu, back from the dead in the form of a rokurokubi, threw herself at Kaishin, strangling him to death.
She loved his corpse and condemned Kaishin to an eternity with her...
