Finding Fish Around Montauk. Striped Bass, Fluke, Sea Robins

Hit the surf in the early am to connect with some stripers then after the tide killed the bite we made a run for the inlet to catch some more fish and had the rods bent for the entire AM.

Thanks but yeah i mean its kind of a way to release my demons i look at it because of the fish i take when working out here in mtk sadly :( but i only take what i know customers can take and wont kill a fish unless i know they know what they can do with it and how much fish actually comes from a big striped bass. Probably the most conservationist mate on any boat.

That's nice to hear. As a surfcaster and kayak fisherman, all I ever think about are all the freezer burned filet's that get thrown away every year. The pictures of the all out slaughter's at the docks make me sick.

Any tips for someone who wants to get into Fishing on LongIsland, like what rod and reel would you recommend for a beginner who wants to get into this?

I fish with some pretty advanced gear and was fortunate to grow up fishing with the same advanced surf gear because of my dads love and passion for surf casting. But I have fished with many different setups over the years and recently i have been playing with Penn Battles and think a 5000 or 6000 would be good for surf casting for striped bass and bluefish. I just got one as a back up back up if my Van Staal ever craps out. But ive been using Van Staals for many many years and have never had a problem but they have a higher price tag but is so worth it. A rod can be good and cheap I love St.Croix Surf rods and i would say check out Triumph if your looking to spend a 100$ or so on a rod or MOJO if you can spend 200$ or more.
