hey yall, im glad so many people enjoyed this and started shipping them because of this, and thank you to all the comments and those who subscribed to this account looking for more rtc content. Im sorry i never followed through with that, i still have a half edited Constance x Penny edit like this on my cpu, however as information about how Yannick (Ricky's actor) was treated in the mccarter production came to light, i found it very hard to enjoy the show. I figured i would be able to get over the personal hurt and be able to enjoy the play while being very aware of its problems (i mean, we were already all 🏴☠️ing it anyway) but then they completely removed all disabilities from the character for the next production (and thEN played footage of the active war in Ukraine during Talia?? how did it just keep getting worse?) and now, basically i feel kind of nauseous whenever i think about the play from how upset i am. I project a LOT onto Ricky - as im sure you all could see - and it was great having any sort of representation in a musical, even though it was far from perfect, and they got rid of it all after being horribly ableist to a disabled actor. point is, i completely understand if yall still like the musical and im happy for any views/likes/comments i get on this video, i still like the ship and stand by my headcanons, but i will likely not be making any more rtc content, atleast not for a long time. I genuinely 100% understand and dont mind if yall want to unsubscribe as i may make edits here in the future but i could not tell you what fandom itd be for (my SpIns are MLP and TSS if that gives you any idea, i regularly hyperfixate on musicals tho so who knows) thanks for reading and for watching
I’m salty about them ditching Ricky’s mobility aids like that too. That’s one reason I really love Ride the cyclone as performed at the McCarter theater. They had Ricky in a wheelchair and/or with a cane and they kept that throughout the show, making the choreography with it included, save for a bit in space age bachelor man, which makes sense because it’s his fantasy.
Yeah I don’t really understand their relationship. Like one moment he doesn’t even want to be touched by her, the next he’s got his hands in her mouth. Next thing you know she licked his hand and they’re musically doing it dressed as space cats
@@winterwithawhyknudsen5166the space cat thing I think is just them doing the cat stuff, because they’re doing what the cat people are doing idk I’m bad at explaining sorry
The way Ricky says "level up" reminds me of how I bring my special interest into everything 😭 Also during every story has a lesson she seems so afraid of order and routine breaking, she like me fr
you all know that tweet where op always felt outcast from their friend group because they were all in a polyamorous relationship and the person didn't know? that's noel and the friend group is the choir
6:51 Ricky only listens because he is so used to it. He was nonverbal for most of his life and every could express their feelings around him, but he was the only one that couldn’t.
I think you're right in that Ricky conceding could be done right, but it's not done right in this particular slime. If he had expressed contentment and selflessness, he could simply say something like "Sure, I'd like to be alive again, but…not when there's so many other people's wishes left unfulfilled. So many dreams left unachieved. I'm content. I concede." i feel if it was more about his generosity and less about his disability (which should have REMAINED IN THE SCRIPT) his conceding could be seen as heroic and not sympathetic.
i love how at the end they're the last ones to hold hands and its ricky who grabs her hand and they smile at each other. because i think out of the whole choir, in their lives they would have disliked each other the most, so them holding hands by the end is like the coolest character development ever
8:12 That would make sense in the context of Gemini MORE THINGS 1. I totally saw the ableism in both WTWN, and as I said somewhere, I’m glad it was fixed in later versions, especially when there was a song called “Play to Win” that actually used an ableist slur in it 2. THE TRANS THING MAKES SENSE.
I know this video is over a year old but I got into RTC about a month ago (unfortunately unaware of the ableist💩it has become). I, like Ricky, am disabled and use forearm crutches. I was over the moon when I saw a character with forearm crutches shown in theater. His story hit close to home outside of the usage of sign language (if it can even be called that). In regards to 10:40, I was always under the impression that he stepped down because he was able to live his dream through the game's ability, he was able to dress up, live his dream space scenario, be heard, and not worry about his body and how he felt. I never viewed it as ableist that he stepped down from the game, in fact, I think it was the best and truest course of action for his character.
sorry 3 weeks late i dont log in often lol. but it IS the truest course of action for his character - thats exactly why its ablest, he is a fictional character and the real life ableist creators wrote him that way on purpose. it plays on the very common very ableist 'the disabled are only happy dead or cured' trope, he is a character specifically constructed so that the only way for him to have a happy ending is to die. its not ableist because he chooses to stay dead, its ableist because the writers didn't give him a single reason to live (/lh !! i feel like my tone sounds off lol - I do hope you continue to enjoy the play despite its issues, i would not wish my divorce of this fandom onto anyone)
I prefer the original version of Ricky in this show. It doesn't put his character in a bad light at all like people are saying, his story is a commentary on society's problematic view of disabled people. And through the story, Ricky defied every single ablest assumption Ocean had about him. He's smart, creative, caring, talented, and has a lot to say. He had plenty to bring to the table, but no one ever listened to him in life. No one ever took the time to communicate. Ride the Cyclone was a lesson to everyone to not be like who Ocean was. Stereotypes and assumptions are harmful and can get in the way of getting to know a really great person. Also, Ricky didn't concede because of his disability. He didn't even mention it. He conceded because of his spiritual beliefs about sharing love and doing what's right. Competing for a chance at life and condemning everyone else would be against his code. Ricky is an admirable guy, and my favorite character in the show.
As a fellow Gemini, we definitely have the thing where people believe our personality is one thing, but it’s actually the complete opposite (if this makes sense)
What if Ricky saved up Savannah's name to have a girl with Ocean and call her Savannah, but then he gave that name to Jane as he got to know her story and the fact that she didn't knew her name or who she was before the fall. [ Btw, I love the detail of her black eyes as everyone says eyes are the windows of the soul and as she didn't have one, as if she was sort of empty inside. As a doll. :) ]
This is interesting because I am playing Ricky and have made it so that he's in LOVE with Jane because she would be his dream girl, a bit weird but misunderstood. And heavily flirts with Ocean.
7:30 I was a bit pissy he didn’t do a Bob Ross reference but then he started infodumping about chaos theory (aka “the butterfly effect”) and it’s origin and such and I got happy again (yes, I’m autistic, how did you know?)
YIPPEE I LITERALLY LOVE THEM!! they are both so me (the imaginative weirdo who keeps making up strange unrealistic scenarios plus the high achiever girl who aims to do more.. and is most likely neurodivergent)
About the whole Ricky rant, I literally love his character so much because he reminds me a lot of myself (autism + POTs moment) and I actually hate how much they changed him as a character. While I am well aware of the ableism within this script, on some level I can pretend it's not there with his context of why he concedes and the basis that he's been through so much he probably genuinely doesn't want to go back to where he's still stuck in a home with people that didn't give him proper care, but in the new script they literally just erase his disability and honestly (in my opinion) kind of make his character super bland and unlikable. So while I do see the problem with this version on the show, I would rather have kind of bad representation than none at all. On another note, I like to headcanon that a lot of the reason why we don't see a lot of Ricky's motivation to go back would be so that he can finally look at his disability in a more positive light and, through his experience in the afterlife, finally get the courage to stand up to his parents and get himself the help he needs. Because while he may be disabled, he's clearly smart enough but before his death (and even throughout most of the show), he still internally infantilizes himself and sees himself as someone who can't do a lot of the things he wants to, which leads to him "leveling up" in the afterlife (I mean come on, he could've easily played the accordion in real life). So yeah, sorry for the huge rant but I just love his character so much and while I wish this show did a better job of portraying him (no hate to Alex though), at the very least they made him disabled, kept him as a disabled character, and due to the success of the show made him a more popular portrayal in theatre (which really doesn't have enough in the way of disability representation). I'd rather be able to make headcanons for a disabled character than headcanon a character as disabled. (if that makes any sense lmao)
Also this is not referring to Yannick's revised script (which I haven't seen), this is referring to the newly revised script that erased his disability! Just in case anyone is confused :-)
6:29 WAIT THAT WAS SARCASM???? I am genuinely confused I thought that was what he was saying and he was just mad that Ocean turned it into a non-poetic easy thing??
it sounds like sarcasm to me but I am very autistic. also I really dont think that's what he meant? idk how you'd translate you'll be happier not knowing to love conquers all but idk lol
since, noel was technically saying ‘what if you and talia have less in common than you think mischa, if you have absolutely nothing in common, you’ll possibly end up heartbroken’ no, noel definitely did not mean love conquers all. HELP.
2:45 exactly how I feel about this part, like. this is one of the parts I would be uncomfortable doing if I auditioned for ocean and got the part and it just makes me uncomfortable in general..
11:02 honestly, i'm glad u pointed that out. i always found ricky's song weird bc it literally had no meaning for the competition, he didn't have a reason to go back to life while all the others had, even jane smh, so i always tried to bring some reason for him bc i never wanted to see the bad side of it, but ur point of view kinda opened my eyes for this, y'know?? i like the idea that his goal was being listened and recognized for once before he died, but i just noticed he already had it in death, so there was no reason for him to come back, what kinda helps the idea of "disabled people are useless/don't have a reason to live" and that just makes me SO upset, like ricky's character broke plenty of stereotypes and taboos for disabled people, like that disabled people are incapable and/or not smart enough for anything, or don't have sexual preferences nor desires, so he being seen as the only one there who doesn't have a reason to live just torn it all apart, it's so sad and i hope they fix it in other versions :/
I would be glad to tell you they got rid of her ableism ( she has like the I got you into the choir bit but that’s it ) but in wtwn hes just a quite nerd kid who plays the tambourine
I’m glad they got rid of her ableism, too. What makes me more glad for that is Ocean’s original song “Play to Win”, which actually uses an ableist slur in that song (it was replaced by What The World Needs, and there’s a snippet of it on UA-cam)
Correct me if I’m wrong, but there’s a straight ship (ricky and ocean), a lesbian ship (penny and constance), and a gay ship (Mischa and Noel). keep in mind, I know Mischa is in love with Talia, but Noel and Mischa have a platonic (romantic maybe) gay relationship, if that’s possible.
When I watched the musical, I could tell Ocean realized her mistakes and how awfully she treated everyone in the choir at the end. And she was likely raised by her teachers to see herself as better than everyone since. She’s a “gifted kid” in a small town who was likely really close to the burnout most of us experience due to all the overworking and pressure put on us. Yes, as an autistic person, ableism is awful, it’s cruel and dehumanizing no matter what kind of disability you have, visible or invisible. But like all forms of prejudice, people CAN realize that they were in the wrong for thinking that way. At the end, she makes an effort to become a better person starting with choosing Jane to come back to life and to truly get to know the other choir members in their afterlife. It isn’t like she did something totally unforgivable and refused to change. She’s making an effort. Sorry for the rant I just DESPISE when characters either have their development totally ignored in some way or are boiled down to how they were at a certain part of the story
Like we could still have Ricky be okay with being dead but I feel like he should be allowed in the musical to have a chance to be alive again because what are the chances of him not having a better life where he has parents who actually care about him and actually do things like teach him sign language give him AIDS so he can communicate with other people and also it just kind of ableist that the only character who is disabled is it allowed to be able to have the same chance that everyone else
I love this video because it a) made me ship ricky and ocean and they mean the world to me and b) made me realise oh my god I can ship something other than nischa
I’m a full year late, but d’you think the Ricky concession could be fixed by focusing on his treatment rather than his condition? Like if he wasn’t giving up because “disabled people are better off dead” but because he was tired of being treated like a piece of furniture? Idk seems like putting the “blame” more on being cut off from everyone due to his parents mistakes rather than his actual disability would fix at least some of the ableism.
Ay yo stop reading my mind /j In all seriousness, I was thinking about this because Ricky and Jane have their own traits that sort of make them stand out from the rest of the characters (Ricky having a degenerative disease and Jane being unknown), so Ricky kind of understands her in that sense. Also their scene together was so sweet and that’s why I love them both
At least the fan of this musical let Ricky keep his Mobility AIDS because in a lot of animatics for it they have Ricky keep his Mobility AIDS cuz like I can't speak from this personally because I'm not disabled but I feel like even if someone did die and then didn't need their Mobility AIDS in the afterlife I feel like they would still keep them though because they'll be so used to having their Mobility AIDs that it be weird to not use them suddenly like they can but I just feel like it makes more sense for a dead disabled character to keep their Mobility AIDS or Prosthetics in the afterlife
BTW Being "different" doesn't mean ur autistic. Ocean is just like that, and Ricky is finally being able to express himself, he's just weird (in a good way). I love this ship tho they're so cute.
@chillykirin I'm well aware they're your own headcannons, I can read, believe it or not. There's nothing wrong with being autistic, it's the fact that whenever someone is nerdy or weird or has like a specific interest, it doest mean they're autistic.
@@Cat1nth3ha hmm repeatedly using literal language, having deficits in social interactions, and having restricted interests are definitely just weird and like that and not at all in the literal dsm5 diagnostic criteria of asd that you can Google. but also I literally do not care if they're actually autistic or not like at all, I could say I headcanon any character is autistic for any reason and the normal response would be to agree or scroll. telling someone who's making a silly little headcanon post that you think they're wrong is plain rude and goes against fandom etiquette common sense. you saw the infinity symbols, autism creature and the word autistic in the thumbnail - I could not have warned you any better - you clicked on it anyway, and went to the comments to tell me how wrong you think I am when you couldve used common sense and just. not clicked on the video
probably not, tldr to the pinned comment but basically I've left the fandom, on the off chance I get back into it I'll finish that edit I started but don't hold your breath ^^;;
Instead of changing the script to solely make Ricky mute, they could have just kept Ricky’s mobility aids in except for SABM like McCarter theatre did, because I actually liked his mobility aids! Also the new weird snake sermon thing in his backstory I don’t like- I can’t excuse their ableism with cutting the only/first (I’m sorry, it’s 4:00 in the morning, I can’t get my facts straight) disabled actor to play Ricky BECAUSE of their disability. I love all of the actors and all of the characters, but script changes and ableism I’m pretty fucking salty about.
no need to bash on other ships because you don't like it. it'd be rude of me if I went into a spacedolls vid saying that ocean and ricky is better. (not trying to be mean ^^" I've just seen a lot of people do this)

11:02 honestly, i'm glad u pointed that out. i always found ricky's song weird bc it literally had no meaning for the competition, he didn't have a reason to go back to life while all the others had, even jane smh, so i always tried to bring some reason for him bc i never wanted to see the bad side of it, but ur point of view kinda opened my eyes for this, y'know?? i like the idea that his goal was being listened and recognized for once before he died, but i just noticed he already had it in death, so there was no reason for him to come back, what kinda helps the idea of "disabled people are useless/don't have a reason to live" and that just makes me SO upset, like ricky's character broke plenty of stereotypes and taboos for disabled people, like that disabled people are incapable and/or not smart enough for anything, or don't have sexual preferences nor desires, so he being seen as the only one there who doesn't have a reason to live just torn it all apart, it's so sad and i hope they fix it in other versions :/
i hope u know that the long rambles are the best part of this vid and they add so much
I would be glad to tell you they got rid of her ableism ( she has like the I got you into the choir bit but that’s it ) but in wtwn hes just a quite nerd kid who plays the tambourine
Also ricky doesn’t concede
I’m glad they got rid of her ableism, too. What makes me more glad for that is Ocean’s original song “Play to Win”, which actually uses an ableist slur in that song (it was replaced by What The World Needs, and there’s a snippet of it on UA-cam)
Update , the whole team is ableist:/
@@angelstime3895wait really? I thought the actors weren't ableist :c
@@humanhoodie1554 I meant the whole creative team not the actors !
I ship all of these
Mischa is super bi because yes

Worry no more, my pal!
hasn’t ocean made SEVERAL ableist comments to Ricky in the musical (and made fun of his disability multiple times)?😭😭
REAL
I ALSO HEADCANNON THAT RICKY AND OCEAN AUTISTIC
i watch this video every day
I love this video because it a) made me ship ricky and ocean and they mean the world to me and b) made me realise oh my god I can ship something other than nischa
I love them so much & I thought I was alone on that 😭 ❤

hear me out. ricky x jane
Ay yo stop reading my mind /j
In all seriousness, I was thinking about this because Ricky and Jane have their own traits that sort of make them stand out from the rest of the characters (Ricky having a degenerative disease and Jane being unknown), so Ricky kind of understands her in that sense. Also their scene together was so sweet and that’s why I love them both

I SHIP THEM TOO BUT NO ONE DOES I THOUGHT IT WAS WEIRD CAN WE BE FRIENDS??
Does anyone have any audio of Mischa's other show?
At least the fan of this musical let Ricky keep his Mobility AIDS because in a lot of animatics for it they have Ricky keep his Mobility AIDS cuz like I can't speak from this personally because I'm not disabled but I feel like even if someone did die and then didn't need their Mobility AIDS in the afterlife I feel like they would still keep them though because they'll be so used to having their Mobility AIDs that it be weird to not use them suddenly like they can but I just feel like it makes more sense for a dead disabled character to keep their Mobility AIDS or Prosthetics in the afterlife
That’s like saying Jane shouldn’t have a head. /nbr
IVE SHIPPED THIS SINCE 2010 OMGG
I mean I can see it❤
Uhhhhh.. 😀
Ok I am converted
I was lowkey a hater before this video thanks for your service
BTW Being "different" doesn't mean ur autistic. Ocean is just like that, and Ricky is finally being able to express himself, he's just weird (in a good way). I love this ship tho they're so cute.
funny thing to say to an autistic who outright said they're talking about their own headcanons.
@chillykirin I'm well aware they're your own headcannons, I can read, believe it or not. There's nothing wrong with being autistic, it's the fact that whenever someone is nerdy or weird or has like a specific interest, it doest mean they're autistic.
@@Cat1nth3ha hmm repeatedly using literal language, having deficits in social interactions, and having restricted interests are definitely just weird and like that and not at all in the literal dsm5 diagnostic criteria of asd that you can Google. but also I literally do not care if they're actually autistic or not like at
all, I could say I headcanon any character is autistic for any reason and the normal response would be to agree or scroll. telling someone who's making a silly little headcanon post that you think they're wrong is plain rude and goes against fandom etiquette common sense. you saw the infinity symbols, autism creature and the word autistic in the thumbnail - I could not have warned you any better - you clicked on it anyway, and went to the comments to tell me how wrong you think I am when you couldve used common sense and just. not clicked on the video
@@chillykirinAlrighty, have fun with your headcannons 👍

Do you plan on doing a Constance x Penny/Jane??
probably not, tldr to the pinned comment but basically I've left the fandom, on the off chance I get back into it I'll finish that edit I started but don't hold your breath ^^;;

Me 😅
Instead of changing the script to solely make Ricky mute, they could have just kept Ricky’s mobility aids in except for SABM like McCarter theatre did, because I actually liked his mobility aids!

I LOVE RICKY X OCEAN ❤️❤️❤️
NO. Oml ocean is ableist to him the whole show and babies him. She just added him to the choir to look like she was doing a good thing. Ricky probably likes ocean but I just can’t imagine them together. I doubt ocean likes him back.
no one ships them because it’s an awful ship she will always be ableist and will always infantilise ricky also she’s a girl kisser
How do you know she'll always be ableist when you saw her for 90 minutes & her redemption arc for about 15 minutes?
Also, she seems to be straight (or atleast like boys) because of her motion she does after Ricky calls himself "sexy on another planet".
