  • The only option for the German Sixth Army at Stalingrad was surrender, while all across Russia the Red Army consolidated their advantage. Also, as German cities encountered the kind of bombing that Britain faced back in 1940, courtesy of the RAF, the Allied commanders planned a return to France at the Casablanca Conference.

My father-in-law was shot in Pearl Harbour, survived the war but was never the same. He never spoke about it. Now I'm sorry that I never thought to question him. He died many years ago. My father was born in the year 1891, and he died in 1993. He was 102 years old. I 💛 miss him so much. He had 4 children and didn't fight in the war. He was a proud man and worked hard his entire life. Lived through the depression. Never stood on a bread line. Thanks for the documentary, it is a good one! ❤

I was stationed in Germany in the 70s. I talked with Germans who lived through WW 2 and they told me that everybody knew the war was over in 43. They would listen to the BBC (although highly illegal). They said it was the only place to find out what was really going on. The BBC was 100% honest even when things were not in the allies favor (which was rare). Also German soldiers who lost an arm or leg(s) were coming back from the Russian Front. They told people the German army does everything they can to rebel the Russian Army and nevertheless they keep on coming. The war is lost and it's just a matter of time.
When it was announced that a bomb had been placed in a room where Hitler was holding a meeting, in 44, Germans knew exactly what it was about and were glad he was dead. It would lead to a surrender and there would be no invasion into Germany. Only to find out later he survived.

My Father was, at 29 y/o , in the very 1st platoon of the 1st Marine Division, to walk onto Guadalcanal in August of '42. He was a 50 cal. machine gunner, & there, he caught & finally succumbed to Dengue Fever, & " Combat Fatigue" , from lack of sleep. He was Evac'd to New Zealand where he spent 21 months getting his health back so he could sail back to the USA. In Oakland , he spent another 6 months before being honorably discharged, awarded the Navy Cross , & given a small, lifetime pension. The German people had never been in favor of this war. When, at the last moment, Mussolini had offered to serve as mediator re: Poland, and thereby frustrating Hitler's attempt to invade in late August, 1939, there were public displays in Berlin of relief--something Hitler and entourage highly disapproved of. Once war broke out, the general population did what it thought was its duty and supported the war effort (something Americans do all the time)...

The best men had already been slaughtered in the first world War. That was part of the plan to annihilate the European peoples. This was the last push to complete it. And, for some to gain more, and total control.

I like the quote taken from a letter Eisenhower wrote to George Marshall in April 1945 when he says, " I made the visit deliberately, in order to be in position to give first-hand evidence of these things if ever, in the future, there develops a tendency to charge these allegations merely to “propaganda.”"

Besides most German people were starving to death, let alone being incinerated. I call bullshit on this narrative

@@harleyyoung9585 Idk if your comment was directed at mine or the original post. The letter I was quoting from in my post was Eisenhower referring to his visit of a newly liberated concentration camp. In that respect it's discussing only one part of the war in the grand scheme of things. Not the strategic bombing campaign, the debate regarding its contribution or lack thereof, or any questions of morality, that you're comment appears to be about.

One minute we've conquered North Africa, the next we're fighting at El Alamein, then Pearl Harbor is being attacked; Stalingrad falls to Stalin, then later Hitler is trying to take it and the Russians are trying to take it. I realize a world in conflict is a lot to cover, but let's at least try to put these major events in order.

Indonesians disagree completely. I believe over a millions of them died in Sumatera alone from starvation at the hands of the Japanese. Nevertheless, most Indons hate other races so much (white, arab, black) that they prefer the brutal Japanese occupation to white Dutch colonials. Despite what the Japanese did them - they refer to them as their asian 'brothers' - because of the extreme nature of their racial hatred and jingoism in relation to white people. For example, I am a white muslim - and I am called or have shouted at me at least once a day - 'albino ka##ir' - they have their own names for african, black or arabs also.
