the best way i can describe how to ‘scream’ on vocals and sound good is to do a falsetto. lots of dirty vocalists hardcore bands that are big today have tried to help people out who are starting their own bands and that was one of the strongest points i’ve seen emphasized. coming from lots of grind/death core music previously, it’s the only way you can really do it right without obliterating your throat

I know that this is a few years late but coming from an actual metal vocalist I can provide some advice! You may never see this but it's still good advice regardless.
When performing a scream, breath in such a way that instead of your chest expanding with air, expand your stomach with air. Then, check where your diaphragm is by making aggressive kungfu Hiya kind of sounds with your hand on your stomach to feel the muscle tensing. This muscle is where you are going to be pushing from so it's good to know where it is. One important thing to note, the scream sound is not made directly in the throat. When you are ready to scream, take a breath the way I explained and when you scream, tighten your core and push the air with your diaphragm and not directly with your lungs. You really want to lean into it with your diaphragm and attempt to produce the sounds through the diaphragm.
There are two main types of screaming. There is the false chord scream and the fry scream. The false chord scream is the easiest to produce and it's very simple to explain.
DISCLAIMER: Before attempting any vocal style, always do vocal warmups. Especially when doing this type of extreme vocal style.
You should never use a false chord scream with your actual vocal chords. It uses your false chords (hence the name) which you can find by imitating the sound Chewbacca makes in Star Wars. The feeling in your throat that you get when you make that sound is exactly where you should actually be adding the compression in your throat. If you do this with your actual vocal chords, you'll completely kill them. While practicing, remember to drink lots of warm water. Never drink cold water because that will tighten up your throat and make it very uncomfortable to practice.
When you do the technique correctly, you shouldn't feel any pain in your throat or your chest. If you do feel that, take a break for a few days or a week and then retry it. The voice needs time to rest when it is getting used to this style.
Good luck and happy practicing. Oh, and please be careful!

I do have a tip. So not sure if you already did this but screamo artists use techniques so they don't damage there vocal chords. Vocal fry and False chords are the techniques I recommend trying. I personally use False chord as it comes out more naturally for me. Vocal fry will give you a sound more similar to Scarlxrd as that is the technique he uses. False chord will give a sound more similar to XXXTENTACION. Also, XXXTENTACION still did some hard stuff. Floor 555 for example is one of his best screamo songs and it comes from his ? album.

Very solid for the first time. Tips for future reference:
    - Louder 808s, to the point where it’s almost drowning out the other instruments if you want a X kind of track, or just heavy distortion for a Scar or suicideboys track
    - Screamed adlibs, this is pretty important for the genre, especially if your going for a Scarlxrd sound, which has more of a metal influence
    - Small electric guitar rifts or quiet electric guitar background melodies, or 808s very reminiscent of electric guitars to give a metal sound, but not to the point where it doesn’t feel like a rap song
    - More aggressive screams, although your vocals were aggressive, they could’ve had more shouting. Of course this is your first time, and you don’t want to damage your throat and that’s perfectly fine, but it needs louder, more aggressive vocals to give that screamo feel to the song.
However I still think you did amazing, especially for your first time. Can’t wait to hear more of this in the future!

    • @JRent506
      @JRent506  6 років тому +3

Just do whatever you're interested in. Follow your interests and don't get too discouraged when things don't work out the way you expect. I had this channel for 9 years. It took me from 2009-2018 to get 700 subscribers. Then I started making my From Scratch videos in January and my channel exploded. It was slow at first, on a good day I would gain about 20 subscribers a day. Now on a good day I grow 800-1000 subscribers a day. Watch the analytics and the trends, when I started uploading these videos I noticed a small, but noticeable increase in traffic, so I kept doing them. My highest viewed video in 24 hours was my Lil Pump video, near the start of this year, with about 400 views in a 24 hour period. Just small little things like that give you enough info to realize that you're onto something and you have to keep hammering away at it. It took me 9 years to find a way to package my talent in a way that made people interested. I used to just rap, but in 2015 I started learning to make beats, and then this year I decided to learn video editing as well. My first videos in the From Scratch series are edited poorly, you can definitely see an improvement in quality in each successive episode.
Just do what you feel like doing, even if it ends up being a dead-end you'll have learned something of value in the process. Eventually after hitting X number of dead ends and accumulating Y number of skills, you may stumble upon something unique that allows you to grab peoples attention. I wish you luck!

Honestly, it’s pretty good for a first try. But some tips to make it better are these.
    - Turn up the tremble on your voice.
    - Layer the end of a line with you screaming the last word or two.
    -Add more echo.
-Make your adlebs more dark like scream “Die”, “Hell” or anything else a little darker.
These are small things really. This really was a good first attempt and I really like it. Keep up the good work!!! 👍👍

When I make screamo stuff I use soundtoys effect rack (it's expensive but there are cracks for it) there's a vocal section and I use rock lead vocal, remove the echo boy and reset the hp/lp filter on decapitator and also switch from line to mic on radiator. The result gives you an amazing boost in harmonics and grit without making your voice too distorted. You might need to tweak the drive knob in decapitator a little bit but the result is quite amazing

A basic lease is $9.99 and it lets you sell a few thousand copies of your song
A premium lease is $29.99 it's basically the same as the basic lease except it comes with the stem files
An exclusive license is $100 and it gives you all the rights to the beat

You need to add distortion to drums

  • @prodkyxtx
    @prodkyxtx 5 років тому +5

ok so here is what you could improve:
Beat: put a distortion either on a kick (but not too much) or on a 808 and you could of puted the gross beat on the melody cuz like this it was just realy bland and un intresting. And ussualy on the 808 every 4 bars like you have that on the end most producers pitch that about 2 octaves up. Last Hi_hats should be grittyer/punchyer.And plus alot of beats use metal guitar riffs-
vocals: Dontt scream like you would normaly do but you need to scream does metal screams where it doesnt damage your throat. It does take some time, but that is how Scarlxrd, prxjek, Gizmo and others scream.
OOf this took 10 mins to type

Rent the main thing to know when youre screaming is to use your diaphragm and not your throat and chest to deliver the sound and using your diaphragm will not damage your throat once you have learned to control that then you can move to making a raspy sound depending on the scream you want to do e.g. false chord or fry scream

So the scream takes years of practice to do safely and properly. When starting off screaming you should know there are 3 techniques you could learn.
    1. Inhale which i really wouldn't recommend cause 1 wrong move and you could fuck up your voice bad
    2. False chord. This is what i recommend people to start on because it's easy to learn and sounds great.
    3. Fry screaming which is the safest and best sounding technique.
I've been doing harsh vocals for years and I'm only just switching from false chord to Fry because as you get older false chord screams become harder to do. Im not sure if you're going to be doing harsh vocals again but if you do i'd recommend looking up tutorials on youtube to help you out. Just search up the techniques i just mentioned. A couple things i should really stress when learning though is make sure you practice diaphragm breathing and if it hurts you're probably not doing it right. Make sure to take breaks if it hurts. Oh yeah and make sure to stay healthy , a healthy body leads to healthy sounding vocals. This mainly means drinking lots of water but eating your 5 a day can come a long way too.
